Col 2:16  Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Col 2:17  Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

Heb 10:1  For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.

the shadow of things to come are like say a kosher diet(eating only whats clean)... and for today... daily bread(renews our mind).  thats a good example i think.  We still have it, that is the law, but now its in Spirit.  So as you examine the law ask God to show you what is the Spiritual implication of this law for us today.   This is something i am currently pursuing and there is a large wealth of references thru out scripture.

Thanks for sharing those very applicable verses.

I like what you say about following the Spirit as you ponder the Law.  And that there may be life principles to apply to today.

I take it that you mean the whole Law, not just the first 10 commandments.

It may make some interesting principles to glean.  Some I can see as being very good principles, like getting the neighbors ox out of the ditch, can mean helping when the neighbor's vehicle is stuck in the mud.  Some might be more tricky, such as, what principle to glean from the Law that says a woman is unclean when she has a period and a man is unclean when he emits semen during the night.  Maybe that both sexes have inherent issues that are not up to God's standards?  Maybe that both sexes need to give grace to the other for things they can't understand? I don't know.  But it is thought provoking.

But I am not sure how to spiritualize other ones, such as that people must be stoned to death for picking up sticks on Saturday.

Born again believers don't even see it as law any longer but rather desires that have been written on the heart....

Thanks for that.

So I take it that you see the Law as being more than just the first 10.  But that it is not Law anymore for believers. The 613 commandments are now things that we desire.

Thanks, again for the response.  I find it interesting.

not entirely correct on my understanding for there are many things set aside in the 613 set down for the Jewish people... but as one eats and drinks of Scripture love is formed in obedience to the things of Gods and we are changed from the do to get to the give because we love...

I think I see what you are saying:

-Some of the Law is not law anymore.
-the parts that are still applicable are useful to help us as we grow in our obedience
- we change from "people who are doing good things to earn rewards" into "people who are doing good things because we love"

I like the changing motivations a lot.

As my original question was about how people see the relationship between the 10 commandments and the rest of the Law, your answer helps clarify a bit how you see the Law - as more than the 10, but less than the 613.  Of course, I would be interested in how those divisions are formed, but that may be a long discussion.

Thanks!

You know those “ floaties” that babies use to help them stay above the water as they learn to swim?I looked great in mine, btw........Anyway , now that I can swim instinctively , I don’t need them anymore.....They did their  job, which was to get me to the other side of the pool safely.....I don’t need them now and do not depend on them anymore.....I rarely even think about them.I found a better way to swim.I trust what is inside me now .I can swim instinctively, like it’s in my heart to be a natural swimmer.. I tip my hat to the floaties- mission accomplished! I graduated from “ floaty school”long ago though and moved on .Perhaps this is how the Law should be viewed .If it lead you to Faith in Christ, tip your hat to it and move on to the better way- “ Christ in You”.I would look silly using my floaty now.Thinking That one can “ get to the other side” by obeying the Law is the height of silliness. If you lack the Holy Spirit you are “ none of His”. If you have it ,start acting like it — “ let go and let God”. If you trust Him, He will do a better job of keeping you afloat, than those floaties ever did. God bless

Do what Jesus tells us to do:

John 14:15-16 (NIV)

15 “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—"

Whatever He commands, we do.

And what are His Commands? Definitely NOT the 613 Given to the Jews by Moses—- Those Laws were give to shut us up and take us to our Savior. Have those impossible to keep Laws done their job and shut you up about them yet? There are only two Laws now Given to us by Jesus.I always had trouble memorizing 613 of anything ! Even a senile old coot like me can remember two  ,though.BELIEVE and LOVE.See how simple Christianity is at its core ?

People who don't believe and love as the Creator and the Savior agree,   also do not obey.

Likewise, those who do not obey,  neither believe as needed,  nor even know what love Jesus requires is - there is no light in them at all.

You know what? the more I read about The Law and Christians, the more confused i get - and I am of Jewish descent!!

So I am just going to stick with where the Spirit leads me, which is resting in Jesus work on the Cross, and bow out of any further discussions on this.

Correct - the reading <things> about The Law and Christians is confusing,  and is not the Way.

Everyone led by Yahuweh's (the Creator) Spirit obeys Torah, always,  and loves to!   Yahuweh never leads anyone to disobey, never, no not ever.

Fabulous mental picture, floaties.  I think you mean those things people put on the arms of their babies.  I don't know what you look like, so I substitute someone like Buster Keaton floating along with a wistful look on his face.  I assume you have seen Buster Keaton in your country, since you speak english.

I agree with where you end up - on the good side of the pool, where Daddy waits.  For some, though, the question of the Law is significant because of the things Jesus said.  So my question was about what Laws are important to them.  From your answer, I think you would say none?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
