Galatians 3

Faith or Works of the Law

You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?[a] Have you experienced[b] so much in vain—if it really was in vain? So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard?

Rom 3:31  Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

As believers we may be free from the curse... but not from obedience.

Gal 5:22  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23  Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

oh, so there is law against the other stuff?  you bet.

lets bottom line this... there is no "loophole" which is perverting God's grace as a means to remain in sin.  this is not How God operates or what He expects of us.  How do we know this?... by scripture which says to Love God and love your neighbor is fulfilling the law.  You see... we establish the law.  and if we do establish the law then we do not do those things the law forbids and scripture tells us if we do we shall not inherit the kingdom.

I agree that we need to “ bottom line” this. One “ perverts” Grace by trying to mix it with Law.God devoted an entire Book of the Bible to this subject. That’s how important it is to see that adding Law to Grace cancels grace and leaves one “ severed from the Cross Of Jesus”. This Book is called Galations.Do you have an easy to understand Bible where you could read or reread this Book—- it’s only 6 Chapters and you could learn how to rest in the Finished Work Of The Cross instead of trying to “ establish the Law” by “ not doing things that the Law forbids” . Trying to avoid sinning is Great! God will bless you for it! He just won’t save you because of it.If anyone ever gets Saved it will be because they did not put their faith in their pitiful attempts to adhere to the Law..... it will be because they saw their inability to keep it and turned to the Savior who kept it FOR them.Nothing But The blood.Have you  sung that song lately? It’s the Way .....and it’s the “ loop- hole” God provided for all of us Law-Breaking Sinners like you and I.

Christians Hear!

Romans 6:1-23
What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound?  By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?  Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?  We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.  For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.  We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.  For one who has died has been set free from sin.  Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.  We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.  For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God.  So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.  Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions.  Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.  For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.  What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!  Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?  But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed,  and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.  I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.  For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.  But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.  But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life.  For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

2 Peter 2:20-22
For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first.  For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them.  What the true proverb says has happened to them: “The dog returns to its own vomit, and the sow, after washing herself, returns to wallow in the mire.”

Repent of your sins for which God gave you POWER to overcome. Cease the lies that you cannot stop sinning! That is the flesh speaking, and if you continue in sin without repentance, you will die in your sins!

Repent of your sins for which God gave you POWER to overcome. Cease the lies that you cannot stop sinning! That is the flesh speaking, and if you continue in sin without repentance, you will die in your sins!

The above is the Doctrine Of “ Lucky Repentance” That has supplanted God’s Way Of dealing with sin. God’s Way Of dealing with Sin is Grace— ALL sins forgiven if you rest in the Gospel .That triggers Love and Gratitude which is a far better motivation for living a life that is pleasing to God than “ Do Do this and Don’t do that” and then God will declare me fit for Heaven.Nothing But The Blood is the Way To Salvation.Fight sin  for your own benefit, you’ll be a better man for it —- just realize it ain’t gonna save you.

Romans 11:6.    “ And if it is by Grace , then it cannot be based on Works— if it were, Grace would no longer be Grace”

“ And since it is through God’s kindness, then it is not by good works. For if that were the case, God’s Grace would not be what it really is— free and undeserved”

“ Where sin abounds.....Grace abounds that much more”

Can Believers take God’s Grace as a “ license to sin ?”  Sure they can. When God decided to bestow His Wondrous Grace on His Children, do you really think God was taken by surprise and did not know how to handle those that were stupid enough to think that they could “ sin and get away with it” because ALL sins were paid for on the Cross? God knows how to chastise His wayward Children who want to see what they can get away with— to the point of striking them dead. They are still His Children. The Bible declares that when we get to Heaven, Jesus will be wiping the tears away from many.Ever wonder what they were crying about? Perhaps they are crying about the wasted lives they lived and the shameful things they did when it hits them as to what Jesus did for them and they spit on it.Knowing you spit on the very thing that saved you.......the Grace  that Jesus  went through Hell to provide for you.It would  be enough to make any sane person cry. Those that add to Grace....the Legalists.....will fare even worse than this.Jesus ain’t gonna wipe their tears away—- they are in danger of crying for Eternity. It all depends on what “ falling from Grace” means. It also depends on what “ being severed from the Cross” means. Those that mix Law and Grace are in those two bad places.I am a wretched man , guilty of many things. But I ain’t guilty of that. Those like me That put all of their Faith in the Shed Blood Of Christ Plus NOTHING are gonna make it.That just might  be the “ Narrow Gate”.I hope others join me there.....

Real Christians do not continue in sin. Habitual sinners are a sign they are not really Christians. God says you will be judged for your works.

Poor Paul. His struggle with sin that was discussed in Romans 7 was written many years after he was saved on the road toDamascus......guess he was not a “ Real Christian”.

I bet God took out His judgement on Paul’s sins the same way he did mine....He took the Judgement that I deserved and put it all on Christ at the Cross. He took my sins and in turn I got His Righteousness.Remarkable, isn’t it? It’s so remarkable , it makes me want to sin less.I think that I am on to something.

the scripture i quoted "yay we establish the law"... i guess you dont want to be apart of the group referred to in this scripture called "we"  and according to scripture there is only two groups.  we and they.  you dont seem to want to be apart of the we group.  why not?  you seem to want to go another way.

Have fun with that.

I got something much better than “ fun”......I have JOY! Everyday. It comes automatically when you rest in the Finished Work Of The Cross.I hope you and your friends experience it some day.You May claim to have this Joy, but if you do not Sabbath in the Way that God intended it to be , God will forbid it.Anybody here that has a natural aversion to “ cut and paste” stuff can ignore what follows. Those that are open to learning no matter what form the teaching takes......maybe you will learn something new from the following:

The Bible makes some interesting comparisons between faith and law:

  • We are justified by FAITH, not by LAW (Rom 3:28, Gal 2:16)
  • Abraham and his heirs are blessed on account of FAITH, not LAW (Rom 4:13-14)
  • You can live by FAITH or LAW (Rom 4:14)
  • No one who relies on the LAW is justified for the righteous live by FAITH (Gal 3:11)
  • The LAW is not of FAITH (Gal 3:12)

Summary: You can live by faith or law but not both. It’s one or the other. But what about this…

Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law. (Rom 3:31, KJV)

The scriptures declare again and again that faith has nothing in common with law, and living under one nullifies the other. So what is Paul saying here? Is he contradicting himself when he says faith establishes the law? Here’s the same verse in another translation:

Do we then nullify the Law through faith? May it never be! On the contrary, we establish the Law. (Rom 3:31 , NASB)

Like most grace preachers, Paul was slandered as someone who spoke against the law. He was labeled with the dreaded A-word: antinomian, meaning anti- or against the law. This is his response to that baseless accusation.

Sidebar: If you have never been accused of being an antinomian, perhaps that’s a sign you’re preaching a different gospel from Paul. Personally, I get accused of being an antinomiam on an almost weekly basis. For the record, I am for the law. I agree with Paul who said the law is holy, righteous and good (Rom 7:12). And I also agree with him when he says the law is not for the righteous but the sinner and ungodly (1 Tim 1:9). The law is a signpost to Jesus (Gal 3:24).

Paul says again and again that we are to live by faith, not law, but living by faith does not make one anti-law. On the contrary, it is by faith that we establish or support the law.

How do we establish or uphold the law? By trusting in Jesus who kept the law perfectly and by whose perfect sacrifice we are made righteous:

So the law was put in charge of us until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law. (Gal 3:24-25, TNIV)

Those who trust in their law-keeping performance may scorn those of us who are walking by grace, but the fact is we are 100% lawful while they are the lawbreakers.

You do NOT establish the law by:

  • trying to keep it (you can’t)
  • adopting it as a standard for holy living (it’s a recipe for inferior living, see Heb 10:1)
  • mixing it with grace (you’ll end up lukewarm and alienated from Christ)
  • thinking your rule-keeping pleases the Lord (trusting in your flesh never pleases him)
  • posting it on your Sunday School wall (it’s a ministry that condemns!)
  • telling yourself “it’s part of our Christian heritage” (it never was!)

You DO uphold the law by putting your faith in the One who fulfilled all the righteous requirements of the law on your behalf and who offers you his perfect righteousness as a gift.

Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes. (Rom 10:4)

faith-v-law-rect.jpg?w=620&h=305

Romans 3:31 says we uphold the law by faith. Period. If you’re not convinced, it may help to look at the verse in context:

  • verse 28: You are justified by faith, not by law
  • verse 29: In any case only one nation received the law, yet God is God of all
  • verse 30: God will justify both the Jew and non-Jew by faith
  • verse 31: Does that mean God’s gift to the Jews was wasted? Not at all! As long as you end up with Jesus, then you uphold the law

The Jews were misusing the law. They thought it made them righteous and pleasing to God. Paul wrote to correct this:

No one is righteous. All have sinned and fall short – even the law-loving Jews. The law doesn’t make you righteous; it makes you conscious of sin so that you may be justified freely by grace. (my paraphrase of Romans 3)

Live by the law and you dishonor both it and Jesus. According to Romans 7, living by the law is spiritual adultery. It’s cheating on the One who died to set you free from the law’s heavy demands .

The law points to Jesus. If you are relying on Christ and his perfect work, then you uphold the law and honor the reason for which it was given.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
