Do you follow the rules—or follow the Ruler? Some view the Christian life as one in which we drag a sled loaded with rules, uphill. But Christ said his burden was easy, his yoke is light. Take him as Lord, abandon all else, and you will see that his way is the one of blessing. (Words of Christ devotional) 1

(honest) Do you follow the rules—or follow the Ruler? Yes, and yes. (honest) Often the rules are a burden. After consideration, (the why/blessing of following) they become a blessing. "you mean I have to forgive him", then, "Thank you Lord, I see now how blessed it is to finally want to forgive his fault" "And, Thank You for your forgiveness of my mountain of faults" "Thank you for our victories, Lord!" God is the way, the truth, and the Light, and not the author of confusion. 1

Well both! But Christ said his burden was easy, his yoke is light. -Yes and He stepped up the understanding of just how strict he is for even the thought of a sin is the same as doing the sin, under the easy yoke of Jesus. What is easy is the relief from the consequence of sin which is death. It is easy under Jesus becaue He paid the heavy heavy heavy price of it alone. They were meant to keep us out of trouble, I believe. No need to add any rules to the ones he already gave us.

It is interesting that this topic has appeared in concert with several others that explore the same issue. And serve quite well to illustrate the magnitude of the issue.

Rules protect us and others from the consquences of our or others actions. I might want to run that red light because of....... obedience keeps me and others safe. Rules are a burden, whether societies rules or Gods laws we willingly submit to them. As Christians we obey Gods laws, yes the 10 commandments because we Love him, we obey societies rules as a consquence of our obedience to God. Note the order, we obey God first and as part of that obedience follow societies rules. We do not obey society when it is against God.
