What lead you to christianity?

On December 21, 1967 I flunked out of college because of drugs, on the 31st I was OD'ed on LSD, God intervened in my life the very moment before I died when I cried out the only thing I remembered from the cult I was raised in, ...they called Him, "Father!"  ...instantly straight! On January 2, 1968 I received my Draft Notice and to report for "induction" into the Army in 30 days, ...my friends told me to get "married", so that I would have someone to send me letters and cookies in Nam. I married my current girlfriend, ...came back, started a family had two daughters, ...in '77 Carter gave the "draft dodgers" amnesty and like they say, the husband is the last to know, my wife's true boyfriend came back from Canada and they meet secretly for a couple of years and then she divorced me in '80 and married him and took the only ones I truly loved and turned them against me, ..my daughters.

In '81 I met my "soul" mate, we lived together, she had three adorable children that I loved that kinda replaced my daughters, then she left me one day, in June of '82, ...never came home from work, ...when I talked with her she said she didn't know why she left, couldn't explain it, ...said she was leaving the best thing she had ever had in her life.

Because of the loss of my daughters, the loss of my new family, the death of my parents, all mixed in with the "paranoia" ever present within me from my drug days, my mind snapped, ..diagnosed, schizophrenic, paranoid, depressive, ...I realize now it was by the Grace of God I was not hospitalized and was allowed to be an out patient.

I went three days without food, sleep, a bath and changing my clothes, ...Friday afternoon I went to the bank for the money to pay my crew, I was a General Contractor, ...my usual teller took one look at me and asked, "what has happened to you," I couldn't answer, she gave me her phone number and told me to call her after work, ..she invited me for dinner and afterwards gave me a list of what I was to go home and do, ...take a bath, shave, wash my clothes, feed my pets, ...then Sunday she took me with her to church where a man gave me his Bible, ...I took it home and started to read in Genesis, ...how boring, ...then flipping through the pages I noticed in the back of the book were these words written in read, ...I started to read them, whoa... my mind that had been spinning at a trillion miles per second slowed down and stopped, ...and I fell asleep for the first time in five days, ...only for five minutes, ...but I had slept, ...so reading those words in red were causing me to sleep, so I read them and read them, and read them, ...unfortunately there weren't that many of them so I read them over and over and over, it took about a year before I could sleep through the night, and then, after 18 months, they pronounced me "sane." 

I ran into the lady who helped me at first and she asked me if I wanted to go with her to church, ...uh oh, ...they had asked her to not bring me back again after that first Sunday because I was weird and they felt I was disrupting their church service. She said she had changed churches and so I went with her. That was in April of '86, then she was transferred to a different bank and was no longer in the same town as I was,  but I stayed at that church and became a "religious" church goer, then at a Wednesday Night Bible in July '86 the pastor teaching in Isiah 40, verses 6-8 literally jump off of the pages into my heart, convicting me of my sins and my need for a Savior, a little after 9:00 PM I confessed my sin to Jesus and asked Him to come into my heart, ...I became a Blood Bought, born again child of God, ...the next morning I opened the Bible and started to read those Words in read, ...it had become a habit, ...was I surprised, ...for the first time those Words made sense to me and spoke to my heart!!!

Now, ...the rest of the story, ...in '90 Father spoke to my heart and told me to go back to the island of Moorea, the sister island of Tahiti, where I had come for a vacation during my therapy to see how I would do away from home and around people I didn't know, and without any of my "support" structure I had built up during rehab. 

Father literally brought me here, there was not one thing that I did to come here, except to believe in faith He told me to go, ...then in October '94 Father told me to go to church on the island of Tahiti, even told me what church to go to, I took the ferry, asked a cab to take me to the church and went in, I was sitting in the back on the right side, ...a young woman walked in through the door in front of me, ...I heard that same voice in my heart say, "There is the woman I have chosen for you to be your wife..." ...we married in April of '95, as I began to learn to speak French and communicate with her, she told me she had been praying for an American husband, who played an instrument and loved working with children, ...that's me! I asked here when she had started to pray for and American husband, ...she said in June of '82, ........my future wife  (along with others the Lord has since shown me) had prayed me into the Kingdom of God!

God opened my heart to Him and I became very curious about God who created me. We must die to self before we can experience the new life Jesus offers. Perhaps that happened to me. 

2 Corinthians 5:15

 and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.
