I have been suffering from insomnia for about 5 years and have been on sleep medication, on and off for 4 years, and permament for the past year. It bothers me not to be able to go to sleep without a pill (I tried). Finally, I mustered up the courage to go and try hypnosis, but there is still a doubt in my head about it being okay for a Christian to go to a hypnotist. I don't think it will be helpful to have doubts and go, I best make sure and clear it up before I go or not go at all.

What do you all think about going to a  hypnotist for a medical problem when the doctors are unable to help?

Thanks, shadow, I appreciate your opinion very much. I haven't gone yet, when I said "I finally mustered up the courage to go a hypnotist" I meant I was going to make an appointment. But I did realize that I wasn't sure about it and needed to think about it some more. You think it's unsafe?

Tatie:  Please, do NOT go to the hypnotist!  The mind is Satan's battleground, and you NEVER want to leave it open, or "blank" for another to fill.

I know some Christians who have dedicated their sleep life to the Lord, and when they cannot sleep, they try to use that time for prayer and Bible study.  They also seek His face as to why they cannot sleep, and sometimes it turns out to be a physical problem that can be remedied.

Two of my unbelieving sisters tried a hypnotist (only one actually underwent hypnosis).  She experienced demonic forces (the hypnotist was a highly respected doctor, by the way).  Distraught, she left, running to her car.  She was unaware that her little sportscar had been hit while it was in the parking lot(she was too distraught to notice anything) and started driving off.  A wheel was coming off and the car was wobbling. A Christian, who had just left a prayer meeting, saw her car, and felt led by the Lord to pray for her and to rescue her.  He ended up bringing her to our home(witnessing to her all the way -- and she told him what happened), and it just happened to be our regular Bible study night.

At one of these hypnotist's meetings, apparently, a man who was put under, stopped breathing.  Everyone watched in horror as attempts to revive him, failed.  People started whispering prayers, and crying. There was a Christian in the audience and she jumped up and started praying Christ's authority in a very loud voice with her arms upstretched, and the man revived.  I don't know what that Christian was doing there, but her presence was definitely needed.

My whole point is that hypnotism is not from the Lord, and that the Lord Jesus Christ has more power over your sleep life than any hypnotist could (or should) have. :)

Tatie:

I'm in my forties and the doctor told me it was menapause causing my sleep disturbances.

I can't sleep without my  melatonin and sleeping pills.

Don't do the hypnosis. You NEVER want to

clear your mind, less something else decide to occupy it and take over.

I've heard some war stories over people who succumbed to the tempation of hypnosis.

According to my doctor, the sleep disorder is brought about by  a change in hormone levels.

I'm in agreement with the other ladies Tatie. Try natural herbs maybe. Get a good worship tape and play at night to lull you to sleep.

I'll pray for you too Tatie. I know it can be a serious problem. Hang in there!

catsmeow, it may be the case, I never had any problems with my sleep before. It's amazing how it just came. But, I read so much about sleeping problems, it seems more and more people have it and it's hard to believe that all of them suffer from hormonal changes. So I am not sure, maybe it's a combination of things. Newsweek did interesting article on it, new studies and so on, they found it has something to do with the brain. Hormones are governed by the brain anyway. So I thought I would go to the hypnotist.

Traveller, thank you for your prayers. For the past 5 years I've tried everything. It's just a disorder now. I can't sleep without the pill any more. I will try praying more and ask God what I should do.

It is not God's will for you not to sleep.  Just pray for healing.  Ask Him to help you sleep and believe that He will.  Hypnosis is definately not anything for a Christian to do.

Father,

We praise You tonight and thank you for sleep.  We need Your divine intervention in the area of sleep for Tatie.  Bless her Lord and take away her insomnia and let her sleep peacefully and without medication.  We know that You sent Jesus so that we might have life abundantly and we can't enjoy life if we can't sleep.  Thank you for haring our prayer, in the Name of Jesus,

Amen

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
