Hi, since I am new to actually being a Christian( I say new because I knew the Bible a bit but wasn’t officially Christian), and since I’ve never been baptised, I need to find a denomination over here in Melbourne Australia and do it, preferably soon.

Now I know, or I am assuming that most of you are from USA that it might be a bit harder to give suggestions for Australia. I am someone who believes that after accepting God Yahweh and His Son Yeshua as our Lord and Saviour, works are supposed to follow. So my understanding of the Bible  is like that of your senior forum  member Gideon.

Any Aussies on the forum, please do let me know if you have any suggestions, it would be much appreciated?

Thanks

When I lived there I saw a number Foursquare Gospel churches. I think maybe call one of them and see what they say.

We have many British here as well, but in my case, I am from the US.

The only church I know of directly is Hillsong Church, which despite their problems, is still a Bible Teaching church as best I know.

Generally, my advice to new Christians that wish to be baptized, is first find a church.   More often than not, Churches want their members to be baptized according to their church beliefs.

So running to the nearest church, getting dunked in water, only to find a church you want to belong to then also wants you to get baptized.

Now there is nothing at all wrong with being baptized again, anymore than some couples request to renew their wedding vows.  Nothing wrong with that.

But... generally speaking, it's easier to find the church you belong to first, and then get baptized in that church.

There is no wrong answer in this. If get baptized again, its not a bad thing.   Nevertheless, that is my advice.

Whatever church you go to, always make sure they are teaching you from the Bible.  That is the only absolute that must be observed.

If they teach you something, and you can't find it in the Bible... start looking elsewhere.   This has actually happened to me.  I was in a church, and they were saying all kinds of nutty things, and I couldn't find any of it in the Bible.   I don't go to that church.

Do not assume that because there are a bunch of people, even friendly people, and there are crosses on the walls, and a clean nice lobby, and they call themselves Christian, that this means they are teaching the word of G-d.  You have to verify it yourself.

Virtually every church denomination baptises new believers (the only exception I know of is the Salvation Army, but there may be others). The only issue is the method of baptism.

You need to find a church - and looking on church websites is a good place to start, as they usually set out their doctrinal beliefs, their style of worship service, availability of childrens ministries and other practical things. Many churches post recordings of their services, so you can listen to a few sermons and get the 'feel' of a service before you actually go.

Decide on a church first, then discuss baptism with the church you want to join. You may well have to wait until after the coronavirus thing has passed (depending on the local situation) anyway.

As soon as this social distancing restriction subsides, then you can be baptized by  any Christian. We are all priests. No minister is any more qualified to baptize because it is God who baptizes. It is you who receives the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, it is you who believes. You are born again spiritually, the water is just an outward demonstration/act of obedience, a public testimony. The powerful inner spiritual transformation, (being born again), doesn't pass through a pastor or or priest, it comes directly from God, which is why any Christian can baptize. Many will have a problem with this claim. For those who do, please correct me by showing me scripture that states one must be an ordained priest in order to baptize.

I wanted to again revisit this thread in hope that maybe I get more suggestions for a Bible churches in Melbourne Australia. I have googled Bible churches in Australia, but I don’t think that there is a site that has them all in one place, so therefore I had to post again.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Here's a link to a Biblically sound Bible teaching, believing and "living" church that you will be fed and nourished from the Word, ...may I suggest you make an appointment to talk with the pastor.

Feel free to ask me any questions you might have, ...I'm "down under" too.

Thanks Justpasingthrough, are there any like links to any like sites that have them all listed? I would like a church that would have a few congregations around Melbourne. I have looked into United Church of God and it looks good to me, but I am open to look into more, but I also need to act fairly fast because you never know.

 Thanks

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
