i had to vote no because i don't see Jesus exercising his authority here yet.  i walked with the dark ones long ago and can tell you that the devil still thinks he can win.  it's noy until he's kicked out oh heavenly access that he will understand that....   and as christians we will not have trouble knowing when that happens......   but ultimately he will be defeated but not until Jesus returns in person or the whole world turning their backs on him.. much of satan's power comes from our free will........  the Holy Spirit does intercede on our behalf and has for me in many instances...   saved my life more than once.

Does he not do so delusionally? and without any possibility whatsoever of ever making that happen?

And what, exactly, and specifically, makes you think satan thinks such a thing? What's your source on the thoughts of satan?

years of walking among him and his followers.   the only delusion is he thinking he could still win; but he still exercises the same authority that he offered Jesus in the desert; and will until Jesus returns and violently rips it from him....  if you are not a born again christian you are under his authority generally.

So the answer to the first question is in the affirmative.
And the answer to the second question is also in the affirmative.
And the third question was not answered; your position is based on second- and third-hand accounts.

Btw, satan did not have any authority in the desert. He made challenges he could not fulfill. Go back to my op-reply: satan has no power except that which God temporarily gives him for God's purposes and none of it need ever be the fearful concerns of those God has purchased with His Son's blood. Failure in understanding this and believing falsehoods about a sin-enslaved creature leads to poor thought, poor doctrine, and poor practice.

we will have to agree to disagree with that.....   if it were so he would have told us so.     and if Jesus is exercising his authority in the world today......   well just look around.

The cross of Calvary where Christ shed His divine Blood to buy us back from the power of sin is were Christ broke the power of satan to all who believe in Christ and have a personal relationship with Him and have the Holy Spirit of Gods living in them to convict them of their sins and help restore them away from those sins and become more and more the child of God they were always intended to be.

Satan controls us to the extent we allow him to.

Gods Son Christ Jesus came to salvage us, restore us back to the child of God we were always intended/ suppose to be. But that is also dependant on our fervour to serve the Lord,  repent and return to Him and His Word and be willing let go of our sins and strongholds.

You can't change or ask God to help you change what you don't acknowledge.

A good question to ask is can you bring Christ with you wherever you go, whatever you think and whatever you do?

God knows our hearts, He is just waiting on us to admit our shortcoming to Him so that He can help us conquer over what the devil tries to steel away.

I hear some Christians say they love horror movies, they still  love rock music,  they still like to go back to the vomit of their old lifestyle and reminisce about them, they still like what they liked while they were unsaved.

Remember the story of Lots wife who could not resist and look back?

Paul keeps reminding us to look forward and not backward, forward to the prize of salvation Christ has for all of us who look forward and not backward,

We have our miseries and have our oppressive demons right next to us when we keep going back to the vomit

Do you not think there are consequences to that?

Of course, we loose out big time on Gods new testament/promises here on earth while we are still alive.

When we keep looking back, looking to the vomit.

When we keep holding grudges instead of giving them to God to handle

When we can't forgive, and allow bitterness to rule over us instead of Gods meekness of heart.

When we seek revenge and still think to say its sweet? that is evil thinking, Not given from the Holy Spirit of God to keep in our hearts.

Of course, those practising such are still chained and not free to the bondages of satan.

They still need deliverance.

We are good at fooling ourselves and looking to find justification to our sins, but if we truly align our thoughts with God and are willing to do so in ALL thoughts and intents we entertain, we will soon discover where we fall short and lie to ourselves  through the oppressive easy deviance's of satan lies still lingering in us.

When I came back  to Christ Jesus in the fall of 2002, I knew God was calling me back and I heard His voice, I got rid of ALL my secular music, burnt all my books on esoteric philosophies, and when I did so I felt such a weight lift from me. God helped me throw away past vomits and have no desire to look back, and with that, left the oppressive demons attached to such activity. And over the years He continues to help me SEE the things that are not befitting to His Glory. He is the one as I seek His will over mine, that govern my heart, corrects it and guides it unto the right path. The things I once loved seem now so foreign to me, Praise God! that is when you know God has been working in you, has been delivering you from the evil onem and IS transforming you step by step into the child of God you always were intended to be.

Why go back to the vomit and reminisce  in a longing way about it?

Why ? why are their threads on worthy about loving horror movies? Why? Would you invite Christ  down to watch these with you and think that He would approve?  The same goes for secular music and so much other secular strongholds satan can still keep us captive and slaves to and keep us also from getting the full benefit of Gods inheritance to us while we are still alive.

When you entertain such you invite not Christ but satan to accompany you. You invite back your old devils and more to the mix.

And doing so you will never have the full gifts that Holy Spirit of God can give to you, nor do you have the proper discernment that God bestows on those who look to follow and be faithful to Him alone.

1) Who is the "us" in that statement? Is it humans in general, unregenerate humans, or regenerate humans? Are we to read that statement to say, "Satan controls Christians to the extent we allow him to,"?

2) Got any scripture to support that statement?

From my own experience ,  its that satan controls us to the extent we allow him to.

to the one truly saved and seeking Christ Jesus His Holy spirit comes to live in our hearts and convicts us of our wrong and help us, restores us, step by step to the child of God He always intended for us to be.

2) Got any scripture to support that statement? Yes Christ Jesus said : your sins are forgiven, go and sin no more lest a worse sin comes

Then there is another one where Christ delivers one from sin and says to sin no more lest the devil who left come back and bring more demons with him in than before.

The devil is always around to tempt us, he tempted Christ Jesus and Christ Jesus rebuked him and with Holy scripture and has given us the example to do the same.

I do believe Christians can have spirits of oppression still needing deliverance.( like spirits of lust,  fear, anger, addiction, rebellion/witchcraft, sickness etc.) these can shorten our lives or not give us the quality of life and blessings that come with it.)

I do believe there are familiar spirits, generational curses that can linger on ( when not addressed to God for removal), attach themselves to us when we keep living in certain sins. Those need to be addressed, brought to the throne of God and ask Him to remove them. He is just to His Word and will do it.

The moment we recognize sin trying to make way in us we can ask God to help us and rebuke the evil and demons that are trying to temp us away from Gods True path for us.

Do you normally measure reality first by your personal experience or by God's word?

I said from my own experience because I HAVE a living relationship with God and I have seen how it has progressed over the years in my life.

My own experience yes has been a reality since I am speaking here now, I know of my life, I know of the things GOG has heal me of   and how God has transformed me  and continues to do so as I keep seeking Him. Praise God Thank You Christ Jesus !

Yes

1) The first question wasn't answered. I didn't ask what you do. I asked whether the "us" references Christians, non-Christians, or both. I cannot dialogue about something I don't understand and I do not know whether the "us" was intended to specify Christians or not.

The references for both Christians and non Christians.: The devil is always around to tempt us

Non Christians not only can be oppresses, they can be possessed.

A christian cannot be possessed, but (they) certainly can be oppressed.

About control?  When you have an oppressive spirit lingering around you, it can take hold . It is very powerful and a person needs to first recognize the oppression and ask God to deliver them from that oppression

The devil being around is not control. Temptation is not control. Neither is oppression.

Where is the scripture that states an oppressive spirit can take hold of a Christian?

If control of oppression are being conflated, and if no scripture stating these claim can be provided then I am going to respectfully suggest 1) a lack of understanding on the matter exists, and 2) scripture is not the measure of your life, at least not on this topic. It's not personal, I would ask this of anyone claiming satan can have control over a Christian if s/he allows it.

So show me the scripture.

For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. Therefore what benefit were you then deriving from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the outcome of those things is death. But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life (Romans 6:20-22).

There is such a thing as slavery mentioned in the bible.

Remember Moses came to set the Hebrews free from the control, bondage of the Egyptians and their ways?

God gave Moses the ten commandments to set them free:

Exodus ch20 v2:I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

Some where obedient to God some not, by not being obedient to Gods Word and His laws, the Hebrews stayed stuck as they could not all let go of their idols and things of Egypt

God through His only begotten Son Christ Jesus came to take us out from the power of satan, from the bondage, slavery /control of satan. Through Christ Jesus we can be set free from being slaves to satan.

When you are a slave you are controlled, you are not free.

Being under oppression , a believer has not total freedom.

Being oppressed for the unbeliever is not freedom

Christ  Jesus came to set us free. John 8:36 36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

He sets us free through our faith, faithfulness - obedience in Him, to Him and His Word, faithfulness to have a living relationship with Him on a daily basis .  As we continue in Him daily, put on our daily armour of God, and seek Him daily, He is faithful to set us free, set us free from oppressive spirits

This explains it well:

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
