I found this article, "Americans Clueless About Gene-Altered Foods."

It is very interesting, I thought.

Stephanie Childs of the Grocery Manuacturers of America states, "Roughly, 75 % of US processed foods - boxed cereals, other grain (soy) products, frozen dinners,cooking oils and more - contain some genetically modified, or GM, ingrediants."

The article goes on to say that Americans have been eating GM foods -unlabeled-

for nearly a decade, according to the Associated Press.

What is Gene Modification you ask? Gene Modification on crops involves transferring genes from a plant or animal into a plant. More than 80% of the soy and 40% of the corn raised in this country is a GM variety.

Two other comments. Recently the Food Pyramid was changed here in the US. Our government would like us to eat more fiber. So eat up America - boxed cereals and drink plenty of soy milk.

Second comment. Africa will no longer accept GM corn from the USA. They are concerned it will cross mix with their corn. They have learned exactly what GM foods can do to their children. They got smart a little too late.

There are many web sites on Gene Modification, our New Food Pyramid and GM corn in Africa.

Lovely. I'm going to start eating the cardboard boxes and packaging and throw away the "food".

Seriously though, my thoughts are these: There is so much we have to be careful of when it comes to our food. Additives, preservatives, artificial coloring and flavoring, saturated fats, high-fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated foods, etc..,! It's dizzying!

I eat the best way I can and be sure to pray over my food. A simple prayer, such as...

"Father, thank You for Your provision. I ask You to bless this food to the health and nourishment of my body; and bless the hands that prepared this food, in Jesus' name. Amen.

...works. I do my part and the Father will do His.

Is it any worse than eating food that has been grown with fertilizers and pesticides?

How about food that comes in tin foil wrappers , like TV dinners. If the food doesn't kill you the water probably will. From what I can see, there is no escaping the wonders of modern technology. Just choose your poisons and go for it. Just about everybody who dies around here, dies of cancer. I can't remember the last time I saw a good old fashioned heart attack. I thought living in the city was bad because of all the industrial pollution. Now that I live in rural Nova Scotia I notice that these residents like to burn their garbarge, and what they can't burn, they drag off into the bush.

Yup. I would say genetically altered food is among the least of your worries.

considering that the absolute lowest quality of ground beef i can find in any local grocery store runs appx 3.50/lb, (and if i want less than 20% fat i'm paying upwards of 4.99/lb), i could care less what gene alterations or pesticides pollute my food. i'll thank God for not making me scavenge out of dumpsters!

Anyone wear cotton clothes? Did you know that cotton has been genetically altered? Bt cotton, has botulism bacteria or toxin (cant remember) in the cotton gene, as a natural pesticide. Anyone use humulin insulin? Yep genetically altered mix E. coli bacteria and human dna to produce this insulin. It has been around for a long time.

I think that just about all food today is somewhat altered. Best advise if you're really worried about it is to go and do some country living and grow everything yourself. It's my long term goal.

Just make sure I've mowed it first, okay? You can eat the clippings since I don't want the yard messed up!

I think that just about all food today is somewhat altered.  Best advise if you're really worried about it is to go and do some country living and grow everything yourself. It's my long term goal.

Just make sure there is no polluted or acid rain in the area or there hasn't been any garbage dumping and seepage into the ground.

With the pollution in the air, I don't think that's 100% safe either. The safest way is to pray over your food before you eat. God can alter anything for our good.
