You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God. - 1Jo 3:5-9 ESV

I can't know it for you or other christians. God knows.

But I know it of myself, although I hate sin, although I belief in Christ as my Lord and Savior, although I belief His words are true, although I desire following His will and not my own, although I know the Holy Spirit is in me, although I experience sanctification in my life, I am still prone to sin and I have sinned. Not having any excuses for it, not being proud of it, being convicted of it, being disciplined for it, having repented of it, being forgiven for it, having learned from it and being freed from it. I know, with the help of the Holy Spirit and faith in His words, I walk towards righteousness.

2 Cor 13:5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you--unless, of course, you fail the test?
What is this test? To be sinless? If that is the test, then I certainly fail.
Do I practice sin? Certainly not.
Have I conquered old habitual sins? Certainly yes, thanks to the Holy Spirit and His words!
Do I sometimes slip and sin? unfortunately, yes.

I long for the day to be without sin. But I would be a liar if I told you I have no sin.
I long for the day of Jesus' return, so that we can become complete again, without sin.

We are not on the same page. Breath life has nothing to do with the spirit of Christ that came into the believer at the time of their new birth.

Oh I see, your getting the physical confused with the spiritual. John 3:8 talks about the wind: "The wind blows where it wishes. You hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” So John is using the wind to help us understand the Spirit of God.  This is the same in Job 32:8 "But it is the spirit in a person, the breath of the Almighty, that gives them understanding. In Job the letter Vav is added and this shows the connection between the physical breath as we draw oxygen into our body and the spirit that gives us understanding. Clearly Adam and Eve had understanding that no one before them had. This is not because they had oxygen in their lungs. It is because God breathed HIS understanding into them. Actually lots of people have trouble understanding the man that God created in Genesis chapter one and Adam and Eve in Chapter two. This all comes down to one word: Nephesh.  The letters in our alphabet have symbolic meaning. They should teach this in kindergarten but they don't. They just teach phonics. This maybe why people get confused because they do not understand what letters represent and so they do not understand the meaning of words.  Even in Bible school they teach that we are to attempt to determine the meaning of a word by context or the way it is used. There is another word: Ruach but that is another lesson - so I will not go into that here. We are just talking about the word Breath in Genesis 2:7 and what that word means. You thought this was talking about oxygen in the lungs and you did not seem to be aware that this is a reference to understanding as we see in Job 32:8. The letter Vav is important to show how the physical and the spiritual connect but that is a lesson all in itself.

1John5:3 "his commands are not burdensome". I was just reading the The Didache and that leads me to believe that it is not that difficult to live free from sin. Because this means doing no harm to ourself or others. There was a book called: "What would Jesus do" that challenged people not to harm others in order to make money. I was a carpenter as Jesus was a carpenter. This job is easy to do without harming people. I would not work a job where you are harming people or helping them to harm themselves. Like selling junk food, alcohol or smoking materials. Perhaps it is to easy for some to love the money more than they love the people. So they are willing to harm people to gain money. I am not saying we should not give people alcohol. There is a point where it becomes excessive and you need to know when to cut them off.

I don't get confused at my level. I'm looking at "pneuma hagion" and you're looking at "nephesh". I'm looking at the new covenant and you're looking at the old.

SO - why do YOU continue to SIN as a Born Again Christian??

Who says you have to continue in sin?  God has given us the power and grace to live a life with out sin.  Jesus/Yahshua has given us victory over sin.  A person who willfully continues to live in sin and disobedience to God has either never been truly born-again or they fallen away from the truth.   Does this mean a believer can not sin, No.   Our faith will be tried and tested and if we sin we will be convicted by the Holy Spirit to confess and repent.  If we repent they will be forgiven.

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; - 1Jo 2:1 NASB

Just had a thought guys. Not sure if your doing it as I have not read all this thread but I wonder how many Christians argue on forums about the definition of sin. Arguing and not debating is sin IMO.

Bless you guys.

That wasn't the question.  Of course we (as Born Again and Spirit indwelled Christians) "don't have to continue in sin".  But YOU sin as a Christian, and so do I. It's a simple FACT of life.  I John 2:1 is the solution.

Its not a fact.  Its a lie that Satan has sold you on.  If you are born of God you do not continue to sin. Yes we are all born in sin, but Jesus/Yahshua came to save us from sin and set us free from sin.  If you continue reading 1 John just a few verses later:

No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
