1 Corinthians 3:10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
3:12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
3:13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for The Day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
3:14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
3:15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

I am looking for opinions on the interpretation of this passage. Is this passage, specifically starting at 3:13, in reference to a man who is redeemed or is it in reference to a man who has yet to be redeemed?

I am of the thought that it is addressing those who are redeemed and are building on the foundation that is Christ.. And in their building, as whether, as a Mary or a Martha.. Both are His and loved by Him, but one choose the good part..

(my thinks)

Here it is in the version I use.

“We are workers together for God, and you are like a farm that belongs to God. And you are a house that belongs to God. Like an expert builder I built the foundation of that house. I used the gift that God gave me to do this. Other people are building on that foundation. But everyone should be careful how they build. The foundation that has already been built is Jesus Christ, and no one can build any other foundation. People can build on that foundation using gold, silver, jewels, wood, grass, or straw. But the work that each person does will be clearly seen, because the Day will make it plain. That Day will appear with fire, and the fire will test everyone’s work. If the building they put on the foundation still stands, they will get their reward. But if their building is burned up, they will suffer loss. They will be saved, but it will be like someone escaping from a fire.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭3:9-15‬ ‭

This, in my opinion, is one of the most consistently misinterpreted passages in the Bible... It is speaking of the Judgment Seat of Christ as there is no other event in God's calendar where rewards are presented individually.

The foundation of the Church is God's Word, Scripture, and the indwelling Holy Spirit; Upon which God has taken an objective written format with the Infusion of Himself God The Holy Spirit and made living Oracles within each of His Children... thus His Word instructs us on how to build upon what Christ our Lord has started and we are to do so with great care for we shall be examined on this very thing spoken of here!

Quote

3:12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
3:13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for The Day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.

Almost all address this as gold, silver, precious stones as lasting works and the wood, hay, stubble as works that will be burned up- however- I believe this to be error for one must first contextualize where this event is taking place and what fire are we seeing being used here. For the phrase 'The Day shall declare it' is pin pointing this consideration to the reader. The Judgement Seat of Christ will occur in Heaven prior the Marriage Supper of The Lamb. As The Bride will be spotless for The Son...
and this the purpose of The Judgment Seat of Our Lord thus we move now to the fire.

It is the purifying aspect whereby sin and the garment, Jude 23, next to the sin will burn up:
One can understand this as what God is not keeping for the eternal future of us all...
1 Peter 1:7
7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

KJV
thus the fire God is using will in fact burn up everything on that list 'gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble ' and this purification of God for the eternal state is listed here

Rev 20:11-21:5

11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

21 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
KJV

even the knowledge of it's existence in any form will be removed from this eternal state:

Isa 65:17

17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.
KJV

1 Cor 13:8

8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
KJV

So existence in any form of this cannot be connected to bottom line of works unto God... You will naturally say how can I do anything then for all I do is with that which passes away (physically)... that is why it is written
John 6:63

63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
KJV
Our total dependence upon what we do 'IS' reliant upon The Holy Spirit and Written Word divorcing all that is not being kept from consideration....

It all has to do with what we do for Christ when we are in these bodies on earth. Some will receive many rewards while others will barely make it to heaven.

I am looking for opinions on the interpretation of this passage. Is this passage, specifically starting at 3:13, in reference to a man who is redeemed or is it in reference to a man who has yet to be redeemed?

Quote Thomas,
"in reference to a man who is redeemed or is it in reference to a man who has yet to be redeemed?"

3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
3:12 Now if any man build upon this foundation

I have always believed this refers to those who's foundation is, the cornerstone, stumbling block, which is Jesus Christ.
Paul is talking to those new believers in Christ still on the milk.

Not concerning
  3:13 Every man's work

John 15 explains that we as branches must  abide (in the true vine) to bear fruit, that it is not of our selves that produce fruit, but the vine, Jesus.
"Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine;
no more can ye, except ye abide in me"

I try to keep my head on the Lord, trying to 'receive instructions' throughout my day, that He would work through me.

My understanding;
When I abide my mind is on how this day can the spirit of God work through me. (not I, but Christ)
I have to continue to remind myself of this, it is not a complete habit, living in this flesh. If I come up with an idea of a deed to do, without acknowledging God and use my own understanding, the motive I use can/may deceive me, even though it may be a 'good' work, it is may be for 'my own' glory, admitting to myself later the deed was done to be seen (recognized for that pat on the back). Possibly a really good work helping others, but only wood hay or stubble, easily burned up. I did it, my work, my glory. Often it really is difficult to remove 'self' from a deed I want to do, so I acknowledge God and press on.
Should I be abiding, or simply having my daily conversations with God working, conversing or whatever, but aware of God with me, and I see a little deed to do in my shop maybe that would bless a stranger,  and feel that moving and take on the task, unseen and receiving no recognition, this would be, to me, a little gold nugget, for the Lords good pleasure. Gold does not burn.
The defining thought is 'why' do I do anything, as in just what is my motivation for doing it. This comes up often even here on this forum, in my thoughts if the flesh isn't running things, as to why am I replying to some one. To edify or to embarrass. To help and lift up the Lord, or to lift up my self...   God is not mocked.

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.  Galatians 6:7
The thing is, He is not fooled........ :)

"for The Day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is."

These gold nuggets belong to the Lord, to be returned. Some day ............

Simple yet this is what it means. Nothing what so ever to do with salvation. May things we do are good and nice but for me if HE is not part of it there is no life in it and its in vain. I think of Heaven.. everything He made (not part of sin) all worships Him. Every song, music is about for Him. I don't about you but.. there is NOTHING else I want to sing about praise.. sing to.. its just.. in me

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
