I have no idea what the number 153 means but there is NOT ONE letter or number in the Scriptures that is not specifically placed there for a perfect (HIS) reason. We will never be able to understand HIS WORDS...... they are simply too deep and beyond our mental capacity ......

But to quickly vomit out some thoughts:

1) the disciples went out at night to fish - always since the fish in the Sea of Galilee would feed at night and come to the surface..... symbolically, could this mean that while we are in the dark, we are lost and can not catch anything.... we need HIS WORD (Jesus said something about "darkness"....),

2) it was mentioned Jesus told them to throw the net on the "right side" of the boat. Apparently meaning they had been throwing the net at night on the left side of the boat (right side in the Scriptures seems to be symbolic of the "correct side").

3) the disciples OBEYED Jesus even though they being professional fisherman knew you don't catch fish during the daytime... fish return to the deep after dark,

4) initially they did not recognize Jesus but still they OBEYED HIM... this is usual since they had no reason to accept this stranger giving them bad advice (wrong side of the boat and during daylight)...(symbolizing faith and obedience even when it seems the opposite of what we should do).

5) Jesus told them exactly how many fish of 153....  Peter was to be a fisher of men ....Jesus is telling US He knows exactly how many and who will be saved.... He could name and count each and every one of HIS....

6) the net did not break.... there is room for everyone if they listen to HIM... NOT one of them will be lost ..... No one can pluck them from my hand....

7) those fish that come at night would be doing what they always have done ... eating and drinking and doing what they always do .... but at night (symbolizing worldly things). Like in the days of Noah.........

8) at a time no one knows (fish and people), some will be taken and some will be left behind......

9) Jesus did not reveal to them who HE was until .......

10) Jesus already had the fire going ready for the meal..... Jesus is indeed preparing a  place for each of us as we speak,

11) When Peter recognized Jesus, he threw off his cloak and jumped into the water and ran to HIM..... we need to do the exact same thing......

I guess there might be a hundred more messages we could pull out of this one story if we focused on it.... but once again, EVERY LETTER OR WORD OF GOD IS PURPOSEFUL AND MEANT TO HELP US KNOW HIM....

I would not be surprised at all if we just focused on the number 153 we could come up with some very neat reasons it was specifically used by God....

Just my thoughts, Charlie

Brother Charlie, this time I call you brother because you have put down your own understanding and no the understanding of someone else who may at first belong to someone who has died long time ago and perhaps he has changed his understanding before he died and no longer supports word for word when he said something in his earlier years.

Brother Charlie and I do not want to know your real name, but to me is a friendly name and makes people approach you without any fear that they may be ill spoken by you if they are in some disagreement with, even if it is a temporary one, or a disagreement that may be the catalyst to a deeper understanding of something we long to know.

Brother Charlie, there is something that caught my attention in the first paragraphs of your post and I would like to share them with you and not to keep them buried in my mind, till the time I may have difficulty remembering and I may even forget and even if the Paracletous is trying to bring it to my attention I may not be able to accept that at some time I did think in the following lines.

From knowledge I know that when the fishermen they go out at night to fish they use a strong light by the bow of their boat because the fish is attracted to the light and gathered under it.

I see a relevance to the two events of the stories at hand and there might be to a message that Jesus wanted to make as to understand why the fish had left their usual abode in the deep water where they usually were found and in stand they were gather close to where Jesus was.

Hope by now I am not let it know what I am about to say.

Jesus was the light of the world before the Cross and he is still the light of the world after the Cross. Even though his light shine to the Israelites only till his sacrifice on the Cross.

It was some time that I thought that JESUS must have put a spell on the fish and the stay away from the fishermen and close to where Jesus Christ was.

And my mind just kept thinking why this Happened till I settled with the thought that fish were made able to see the light that radiated from Jesus Christ and they gathered close to him.

The same thing that happened with Paul only him show the light on the way to Damascus and not his companions, or only the magi were able to see the bright star and no one else.

Hope that might it be why the fish was where it was close to Jesus attracted by his light.

As we know the light of Jesus Christ attacked many to gather around him.

And after the ascension it continues the light of God or the Holy Spirit bringing people close to the truth and making ready for the Gospel's truth.

As in the day of Penticost as Jesus said wait for me, do not do things on your selves, he said to the disciples do not bring to pass the great commition on your own, wait for the Paracletous, for the day of the Penticost to catch a lot of fish. That day the Holy Spirit brought the people around Peter and the other disciples to hear the Gospel and believe.

The whole story of the fish catching is supernatural. Just like when they wanted Him to pay taxes so He sent one to catch a fish that had the money.

It is all supernatural and has many levels of meaning. We have scratched the surface so far..

Sower ... God says "come out of her".

I believe you truly have "come out of her".

There are about 1.3 billion Catholics in the world today.  My hope is that some of them are truly children of the Most High God and believers in the salvation of Jesus Christ and they are saved by that blood.  The Father knows the true hearts of His children regardless of their denomination affiliations.

That was great! One can see just how deep His Word really is!

I can visualize your comment about the disciples using a hand held torch on the bow of the boat to attract the fish.

Yet no matter how long through the night THEIR light could not catch any fish.... It is ONLY when we use HIS light or HIS WORDS can we catch anything.

Even in the pitch black of night in the middle of the sea they were not able to catch anything... only when we hear and obey HIS WORDS (day or night) will we succeed, and HIS reward to us is always so much more than we could ever express do on our own.

Thank you Tim for the image and thoughts! Charlie

At the early years at school we had a lot of stories of fishermen having a petroleum kind of lantern affix at the boat in a way because the light attracted the fish and it was gathered around the lamp, like the people were gathered around Jesus Christ and followed him.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
