Is it a well constructed tome of words to impress God, or is merely a cry for help from a desperate heart?

I find in my own life that I am always recalling scriptures to get me back on track or out of anxiety

And the top scripture is

Philippians 4:

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these thing

Remembering to give all things to God, TO THANK HIM that He will take care of it. And then get my mind off of it.  And realistically this can be a "shampoo" prayer, where you wash rinse and repeat, until the peace sticks in your heart and your mind is on the happier things.

So do you paint a Sistine Chapel of Prayer or simply call out to the Lord. Sometime in my life, the most effective pray I have said is one word....HELP!!!

What is you fervent effective prayer that avails much?

James 5:16

Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

I talk to God like He is my best friend and I lay out every detail. Because He is my best friend. Are we not suppose to pray like a child?

I find big words can be ineffective, BUT so can little words.  It's the heart, not the length or reading-level of the words.

I like to use the words "mercy" and "deliver" because I've seen mercy firsthand and when I pray for God's mercies on other, I mean it deeply.  Also with deliverance.

I believe we should pray to God in reverence, but that doesn't mean using "thee's" and "thou's" with him.  If you choose to do that, that's fine.  But it's not my comfort zone.

Just open up with thanks and praise and lay out your heart to him, as @missmuffet said, with as much detail as possible.  Why if God already knows before we pray what we need?  Because it strengthens the bond between the Christian and God.

Then again, sometimes all we can get out is "have mercy" or "help me or help him"

Thats why God gave Glosolalia :

Rome 8:26 .... for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

What is your effective fervent prayer that avails much?

That God use me. Cause/help me to be a blessing to someone.
(He hears this one for sure!)

I kept looking at that verse posted and realized it is missing the important qualifier.

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.
The effectual fervent prayer
of a righteous man availeth much"
James 5:16

I believe this scripture is self explanatory.
To be effectual it must be fervent,    (having or displaying a passionate intensity, very hot)
To be prayed by a righteous man,     (a believer who does the right thing, innocent, just-lawful-not unrighteous)
Will availeth (produce/yields) much

"This is the confidence we have in approaching God:
that if we ask anything according to his will,
he hears us.

And if we know that he hears us--whatever we ask
we know that
we have what we asked of him"   1 John 5:14

If I'm not right with God my prayer is for mercy. No confidence, no faith. Only regret. (doing unrighteousness)
When my fellowship is strong, an abiding in Christ, and Christ in me, spirit confirmed,
I can believe my petition is already answered. Confidence - faith - belief. (doing the right thing - righteousness)
I cannot have faith in the strength of my prayers if I am not right with God, and I lack the faith needed.

"If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me"    Psalm 66:18

                                             ********EDIT!********
Just saw your post at the bottom, where you posted the full verse James 5:16
My bad, sorry Riverwalker.
Wanted not to forget the importance of being right with God when asking/praying.
(Your two scriptures you use for anxiety etc are also in my top three

Greetings,

My prayers are pretty basic, I usually tailor them to suit my needs or the needs of others.

Intercession prayer, I like for myself and on behalf of others.

It’s also interesting to note, Jesus didn’t pray for anyone in the bible when he ministered to them.

He would find a spot and then pray to God in private.

But when a person came to him with a need, he only spoke the word he never prayed for them.

It seems prayer, is a request to meet needs and speaking the word is to release power into the situation.

Even when Jesus ascended into heaven, the apostles never prayed for people they only spoke the word to peoples situations.

That is the difference between praying and saying.

Prayer is conversation with the Lord and so my words with Him are simple, direct, and honest as they can possibly be. Christ is my friend and so I speak to Him all day long, pouring out the secrets of my heart which He surely knows, but the Lord is pleased with honesty in His presence and so He inclines His ear toward me.

I ask the Lord for His judgment each day, a petition He never denies.
I ask the Lord for wisdom and so He tries me, teaching me wisdom through the trial.
I ask the Lord for patience so that I might wait upon Him alone, and He is faithful to hear my voice.
I thank the Lord for His provision for God is my Provider, and ask that He might give my portion to others if it pleases Him. Christ granted this petition for it pleased Him.
I pray that His will be done on earth as it is in heaven, and it pleases the Lord to reveal His hand so I might bear witness to His marvelous works.

And I pray for the sake of those who suffer around me, that the Almighty might be moved their sake just as He was moved for mine.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this study, I'll be focusing on Daniel and his picture of the resurrection and its connection with Yeshua (Jesus).

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
