Is that what verse 6 means?

 Verse 6 by itself says:

“These sayings will help you understand proverbs, stories with hidden meanings, words of the wise, and other difficult sayings.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭1:6‬ ‭ERV‬‬

or if you prefer KJV

“To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭1:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the entire passage says it will make even those without education smart and can make the wise wiser. That is why I posted it here because it seems to me to be on topic.

Only if the Lord is pleased to give that light to their understanding, brother.  And that's why to Him be the glory, not to man.

I believe I already addressed that when saying a true spiritually-regenerate, word-informed, Spirit-led intellectual possesses sufficient faculties of reason and understanding to know s/he cannot and should not rely on self alone. It therefore does NOT boil down to what we are placing our reliance in because those who place their reliance  on their own faculties, their flesh, are not actually intellectuals. They are faux. I'm pretty sure it does not take an intellectual to understand these truths ;)

Once again I would have to give glory where glory is due and say it is grace that teaches us to rely on God and not to rely on ourselves.  And scripture says we need to first become a fool in order to become wise...we need to become poor in spirit enough to realize our lack and insufficiency of ourselves.  That's a work of God and His grace operating in our lives, in our hearts, it's not of our own faculties of reason which apart from the Lord remains in darkness.

There are true and sound reasons why we will lay our crowns at His feet.....because Jesus is truly the only one who is worthy of them.  It's truly only due to Him that we have anything worthwhile or that we are able to serve Him or grow in Him or get to be counted worthy.

Rom 1:21

Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Rom 11:10

Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.

Eph 4:18

Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart

Only the Holy Spirit can lead you through the understanding of the Bible.

You Do zilch, God does it all, he gets all of the Glory...you cannot understand the Bible without the Holy Spirit leading you through it...

My Belief.

Which brings us to the Spirit. What are Spirit taught words?

1 Co 2:10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.

The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.[c

Interesting translation

1 Cor2:13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the [d]Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual NKJV

Which to me correlates to

John 14: 26 But the [Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

That makes sense.

Just a minor point:

I was just noting that the thread title is "Intellectualism", which (to me) implies a philosophical position elevating the intellect. Much of the discussion has not really revolved around that matter and I get the impression that may not have been the intent anyway.

Does one need to be an intellectual to understand Gods word? Thank you.

1 Corinthians 1:18-25
18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written:

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”

20 Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22 Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

1 Corinthians 1:27,28
27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are,

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
