If God granted everyone faith in Jesus Christ, then, by definition, everyone would have faith in him.  The Bible does not say that God grants a mere ability to have faith in Jesus, but that God gives actual faith (and repentance).

A very large number of people are given repentance and faith; but, it is relatively few, compared with the total of humanity of all ages.

I wonder if that means that Jacob had already been justified, sanctified, pre ordained, fore known, and had become someone to be TRUSTED and maybe did everything needed to have already received his 'eternal' soul, so GOD could 'use' him, ELECT him to make sure the will of God was done.
