What is our source of amusement?

•    “When wisdom enters into your heart, and knowledge is pleasing to your soul; judgment shall keep you, understanding shall keep you, to deliver you from …  those who ... rejoice to do evil and delight in the perversities of the wicked;” (Proverbs 2.10-14).

When we watch TV news, what is our reaction? Considering being the focus of this programs disasters and criminality, we turn off the TV and, crying, pray to Jesus for the victims, or we eat and drink while the TV newscaster presents the program?

When we watch comedy movies, what does it happen? We cannot bear any reproach against our neighbor (Psalms 15.3) and turn the TV off, or do we laugh about the misfortune of the naïve character?

And when a mishap take place, what does it come into our mind? We go with alacrity to help, or stop to record this moment in order to share on the Facebook and amuse with the friends commenting about this?

May Jesus work in our heart so that we feel nauseous or sad always we see someone being disparaged, humbled, laughed at. Have a colorful day rejoicing to do what is pleasant to Jesus’ eyes and delighting in contemplating people being blessed.

I suffer from anxiety which requires medication.  I look for amusement which is not stressful.  I avoid TV newscasts both national and local.  I pray for victims of an unjust judicial system when I read about it.  At my age, there are a lot of TV shows and Movies that I find quite enjoyable to watch from my past and before.  I do a lot of streaming of TV and movies from the Golden Age of TV and Movies.  TCM is generally a good place to watch movies, but not completely.

Neighbors are not welcome in my house per my wife's edict.  And I agree.

I don't use social media except Worthy Christian Forums.  If I get banned from here, I do have some less desirable places I can go.

Thank you for the message Brother!

What goes in will eventually come out ,there are things you can’t unhear, things you can’t under, I gave up tv, movies( unless biblical), and news programs ( designed to keep you scared and confused)

in return I exchanged them with study and getting out walking in gods ways, it has given me much peace of mind to “ unplug

You can grieve the Holy Spirit by exposing him to what modern media has to offer, my real curiosity lies in knowledge of what my inheritance is from the Father

Not if Ironman can beat up the Incredible Hulk

people get distracted of what really matters by their “ means of amusement

Ty for the message

My main source of amusement, I guess is writing.  When my mind isn't 'erupting' I am here.

I have given up on Marvel/DC  I used to enjoy them, but they started adding immorality to the series.  It leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

At least one of the things you are referring to here is empathy in relation to what we see on TV news. I would submit to you that the TV itself is a form of detachment.

A person can see sad videos on TV not just on the news but in many recorded instances of disaster. Much like the subject of death, we don't tend to deal with it unless it comes to bite us personally in some way.If we hear a man drowned in his car during a flash flood we are likely sad when we hear about it. This really happened here recently. The man was pushed by the water current of a nearby stream into 15 ft of water and didn't live through the event. How many of us remember it the following week? Unless it was your husband or father? Want to see drug alley in Philadelphia? There are YouTube videos of it. Very sad. If you really want to experience it though, go to Philadelphia and take a little walk down that street where people live on the sidewalk and live for the next hit.

I can watch a man's house fall into the valley in a mudslide in CA. and it won't affect me as much as being in that mudslide or if it was my house falling down the mountain. The TV really can be a form of desensitization because- A. We are exposed to things like this all the time and B. We aren't directly involved.

Take yourself back to any time before we had TV. Back before news of any kind other than maybe the town herald.Bad things were still happening all over the planet but you would not have known about it, and in knowing now how do we deal with what we kn0w?

I believe God places every believer in the paths he sets for us and exposes us to the people He wants us to speak to. Certainly we can pray for world events and people who have lost their homes to disaster or people who are sick. Unless we are specifically led to intervene in a more personal way there is really nothing else we can do. These things are all mostly outside our scope to deal with other than prayer. Empathy is something I think God gives us, yet to own everything we see personally would overwhelm any man.

When my wife and I were young believers seeking to know God's will through the scriptures, with three young children, we decided to get rid of the TV for almost two years. About the end of that time, I went with a brother/ mentor on a church visitation to visit a family who visited our church. My job was to try and gather the kids away and cut the TV volume down or off while praying for the young couple to receive the good news. What I then saw on the TV for the first time in almost two years sort of shocked me, the dialogue and clothing, drawing My Flesh, realizing I had become so desensitized over the years as Starise had mentioned. And this was about 35 years ago. I remember later reading a scripture in 2nd John first chapter, 9-11.

" anyone who goes ahead and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God; he who abides in the doctrine has both the father and the son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this Doctrine do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting for He Who greets him  shares his Wicked work"

Conviction ensued.

We decided if we wouldn't let somebody come into our home to teach the evil ways of the world to our kids, why should we bring the same stuff in through the television.

I never watch any news, commercials, or really much of anything on the TV, nor do I do any kind of Facebook or social media of any kind whatsoever. Not saying I condemn those who do. I know my limits, and if I have to take every thought captive, it doesn't take long to realize I'll be stepping over the line if I continue to watch a show. And yes, I do stumble. Just trying to limit that stumbling.

My source of amusement.

I prefer one-on-one, face-to-face, so I can fully understand a conversation. I enjoy working in my shop, doing projects, repairing things, or having the grandkids do projects. Grandkids offer quite a bit of amusement just being there. People don't interact as much anymore face-to-face. It's a digital world now.I search all the old black-and-white pre 60s movies on streaming. Stuff that still had a plot, characters that had character, and a decent moral principle eventually. I admit I have to purpose in my mind to do these things, because it's so easy to fall back in the old man lifestyle........

I suppose my amusement is more of doing things, as that keeps my mind occupied, and not wandering around so much looking for trouble. And then there's like Joshe said, I can always log on to Worthy.....:)

They have an agenda: to replace the Lord with hero-figures to worship.  This is not only about entertainment, but the "goodies", nowadays, are often portrayed as being against some kind of evil god-figure.  Knowing that the devil likes to turn things backwards, this is softening people up (especially younger people) for war against the Lord.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
