In my nearly 40 years as a Christian....I have said and  and offered many kind of prayers

Whether it has been writing an epic in  a thousand words of prayer or squeaking out a simple plea for help

But what are we really doing in prayer except acknowledging our need for God?

Matthew 6:

7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.

8 “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.

God knows our hearts, our needs and our wants and He knows what is best for us. We don't have to construct a huge monstrous prayer. But a prayer in which we acknowledge God's presence and care in our lives, casting our cares upon Him....and receiving His peace. Jesus gave us an outline of prayer, a model prayer than shows us how we should approach God

9 In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
[d]For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Simple yet complete.  Now if you feel the need to fill out that outline with a prosperity of verbosity....go right ahead...but remember God knows what we want and need and what is best for us.

I suggest that prayer is less of us telling God what we want and need and more of receiving peace and assurance that He is with us.

We do want to use prayer to unburden ourselves when we are anxious....but when we have shed that burden, let us not pick it up again

Philippians 4:

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Meditate on These Things

8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

Give it to God, thank Him for taking care of it, and take the peace and move on.

The bible tells us that:

James 5:16

The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

Effective: to pray in the will of God.

Fervent:  to be prayed in faith in full believe that it will be heard- Measured in the strength of the faith not the abundance of words

Righteous : Of course this is for people who bow before the Lord

Some times my most effective and fervent prayer can be captured in one word.  "Help!"

The purpose of prayer is not to tell God what we need, He knows that...it is to connect with God, receive His peace and strength so that we can soldier on

I have said the "HELP" prayer on numerous occasions. Short, sweet and to the point.

Thank you for the share!

I big sigh and my tears are prayers too.

I have a habit to thank Abba Father in advance when I pray, and sometimes I feel like doing it until my faith is built up so I just "know that I know that I know"....that I HAVE GOT what I have been praying for. 😊 If you know what I mean.....

But I always pray that only His loving will may be done.

My cat and I don't operate on the same level of abstraction. We can't discuss politics, current events or even the weather. We can, however, spend time together. My cat enjoys rubbing against my ankles, and I enjoy him sleeping on my lap. We have a special relationship.

I imagine God feels much the same about me. What else can I offer the infinite except a portion of my finite being? This we call prayer.

Prayer is fellowship with the Unseen and Most Holy One.-Andrew Murray

I do believe in the simplicity of prayer. But I also believe that there are times in which we may have to wrestle with God in prayer as Jacob did to get our answer. Jesus also modeled extended times in prayer, at least once lasting all night.

For me, the time I spend in intercessory prayer is lengthy. I bring people and their needs to the Lord, asking Him to bring physical, spiritual, mental, or emotional healing, whatever the case may be. I ask that He would grant knowledge and wisdom to those who may be deficient in these areas. I pray for our nation and it's leaders, for the state of our spiritual leaders and the state of our churches in America, for the peace of Jerusalem, and so on. In all these areas I endeavor to bring specific needs to the Lord for His intervention. It has truly been a learning process, and I'm still growing in the area of prayer with much more to learn.

Thanks for your post.

Gary

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
