Greek-lestes-  a thief ("robber"), stealing out in the open (typically with violence). 3027 /lēstḗs ("a bandit, briard") is a thief who also plunders and pillages – an unscrupulous marauder (malefactor), exploiting the vulnerable without hesitating to use violence. 

 In a nutshell,  a bad group of people.  

  How did he figure out Jesus was God? He didn't.  Like everyone else it was "..given to him to know who Jesus was from the Father in Heaven." Else, as Jesus said  , he can ot know.  The other theif,  it was not given  to him to know.  Not yet...

i find there were four crucified with Christ,the two malfactors led out and crucified with Christ and the two thieves(robbers)

crucified after the soldiers parted His garments. hense Jesus was in there midst not middle of,

on a footnote,paradise aint available yet,christ was talking futer tense. move the dot!

What would be a better word to describe the place where a child of God's spirit goes than paradise?

at death we sleep,at Christs return we go to be with Him in the heavenlies. paradise in the Word is a place on earth,as in eden,the next paradise is on/in the new third world. the thief at the moment sleeps,

Four is a cult teaching from an anti Christian Author trying to distort the actual writings of the New Testament Authors. I'll go with the actual witnesses versus the writings centuries later,  from one determined to have a affect of changing the narrative. 

It's in the same realm of claiming that Washington was a Deist. His own notes within the pages of his personal Bible and personal actions during the Revolution and as President declare otherwise. His Pastor made a note of Washington refusing to take communion and thus supposedly declared him to be a Deist. There is only historian that claims the Deist position ..... A modern Professor in History. No where else is the claim found. Creative changing of what exists to something that cannot be supported. Hence, four crucified at the same time of Christ.

It is written in scripture., cant argue with that , two thieves (robbers) with Christ and after the romans had parted there lots then two malfactors,cant see the problem,tradition aint truth.would you like scriptual refs?

Most struggle with the understanding of death for a common reason. The first lie ever told a human being was about death. God said if you eat of that tree you shall surely die. The devil said to them, you shall Not surely die. The first sin committed BY a human was believing that God was a liar. The eating of the forbidden fruit was the evidence of that belief.   And what do they teach us from the pulpits today? That when we depart this existence we shall either go to heaven and live forever or to hell and live forever but you shall Not surely die. 

  Can you sneak up on God and take something from Him that He said you couldn't have? Gen 3:22-24.  And the LORD God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever." So the LORD God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been ..

Shall Not be allowed to take of the tree of life and live forever.  Angelic guards were placed to prevent anyone from entering Eden.
