What are the top health benefits of drinking coffee?

hopkinsmedicine.org

Your brew gives you benefits beyond an energy boost. Here are the top ways coffee can positively impact your health:

  1. You could live longer.

Recent studies found that coffee drinkers are less likely to die from some of the leading causes of death in women: coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease.

  2. Your body may process glucose (or sugar) better.

That’s the theory behind studies that found that people who drink more coffee are less likely to get type 2 diabetes.

  3. You're less likely to develop heart failure.

Drinking one to two cups of coffee a day may help ward off heart failure, when a weakened heart has difficulty pumping enough blood to the body.

  4. You are less likely to develop Parkinson's disease.

Caffeine is not only linked to a lower chance of developing Parkinson’s disease, but it may also help those with the condition better control their movements.

  5. Your liver will thank you.

Both regular and decaf coffee seem to have a protective effect on your liver. Research shows that coffee drinkers are more likely to have liver enzyme levels within a healthy range than people who don’t drink coffee.

  6. Your DNA will be stronger.

Dark roast coffee decreases breakage in DNA strands, which occur naturally but can lead to cancer or tumors if not repaired by your cells.

  7. Your odds of getting colon cancer will go way down.

One in 23 women develop colon cancer. But researchers found that coffee drinkers — decaf or regular — were 26 percent less likely to develop colorectal cancer.

  8. You may decrease your risk of getting Alzheimer's disease.

Almost two-thirds of Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease are women. But the caffeine in two cups of coffee may provide significant protection against developing the condition. In fact, researchers found that women age 65 and older who drank two to three cups of coffee a day were less likely to develop dementia in general.

  9. You're not as likely to suffer a stroke.

For women, drinking at least one cup of coffee a day is associated with lowered stroke risk, which is the fourth leading cause of death in women.

One of which that is accepted as norm and not talked about is over eating, junk food addiction, binge eating, what scripture calls gluttony. (I know, now I'm meddling:) America now has the (dis) honor of being the most obese country in the world.

As believers, seems we should set an example/witness. Below is a short video from Pragar U (Dennis Pragar) that may help understand some simple ways to make simple changes to life's habits/lifestyles that can have a good impact on body weight/health. (six minutes)

But can you start your day without a cup of coffee? Try not drinking a cup of coffee for the day and see what happens :D

A person can not point their finger at a person who is smoking a cigarette while they are drinking a cup of coffee or having a beer.

Why would a Christian point a finger at anyone, for any reason. MM?
Sounds like feelings of guilt of some sort. Like when I also was still smoking.

My fifty one years of smoking, unable to quit, humbled me, and I would then look at all those fat/obese Christians, and those gossiping church members, see the fake piety from those creating  division , and I realized they all had some kind of a "smoking/eating/gossiping/etc  problem" like I was and they couldn't quit, but most(I believed) had no intention/desire of quitting. I was forced/moved to pray for them. I remembered how hard it was for me to quit, and couldn't, yet God alone delivered me, by a faithful brothers prayer.(It can happen if you want to MM:)

You believe caffeine is bad, you believe alcohol is bad, and you know smoking is bad. That is your belief and respect it. I just don't know why you need to shove it down our throat, again and again. I and another have shown you clinical studies/evidence to show the benefits that you might yourself benefit, yet you ignore it. That's cool, your call. Have you quit smoking? Have you lost weight? I posted an article above that is beneficial in that area to lose weight as I've done, and continue to keep my weight close to healthy. I've posted also how I quit smoking. A brother who has been there and sharing how to my sister. Why can't you, as I've also posted the healthy side of caffeine, ease up on all us who have decided on our own it is OK to drink coffee.:)

I drink a beer with my wife together at the end of our work day, six days a week, giving thanks God has allowed us our health to do so. I feel no guilt. Just thanks!

I desperately hope this is true. I keep getting back up and then I find myself in the gutter. I wonder sometimes when the hammer is going to fall and He takes everything away from me or takes me out altogether.
at some point my sun WILL be brought into the light, won’t it?

God is very patient with us.More patient than most of us think He is. I have found this to be true in my life.

Yes. Our willingness to quit and submission to Him means we allow HIM to do the changing that needs to happen.

Something internally happens in a believer who gets disgusted every time they sin. When we HATE what we are doing, when we have that yearning for God to change us to the point that we no longer can do those things, or if we fall off the wagon, we sense such a failure we are immediately repenting. The devil will do his best to put whatever it is constantly in front of you. It feels good to get to that place where we finally look at his schemes and say, " I am not falling for that again".

It's just too easy for Satan sometimes. Like throwing a worm into a pond full of fish. Sadly he really doesn't often need to try very hard.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
