Perhaps you are not mistaken. I never heard anyone laying in a coffin say: "I'm saved".

@Not of the World I will confess that at times I have had maybe similar feelings towards some of a certain theological position because they all come off like they have arrived and the rest of us are poor groveling idiots who need to get with the program.

It's one thing to state a position and quite another to belittle another person or group of people while doing so, even going so far as to base the other person's spirituality on it. But I digress, that's their problem if true, not mine. I will admit to asking God to please knock them on their keyster a few times because that really isn't the right attitude to have towards other brothers and sisters in Christ.

If we are truly 'saved', then we won't have the need to advertise what we are if we don't hide our light and impact on the world.

In protestant churches being saved is a one time deal, although some Anabaptists i.e. Mennonites and Brethren teach you can loose your salvation. Most protestant denominations teach once saved, always saved. We know if it were up to us we would drop the ball. If God saves, He saves permanently. We can however, backslide.

I can see where TELLING someone we are saved in a prideful manner might have a reverse impact. How can we really take pride in anything we had no hand in orchestrating? Yes some can go around giving us the impression God loves them over others because they were "elected".

Bingo!

I also think a healthy fear of the Lord is a GOOD quality to have.  It seems that those who proudly and confidently tell others that they are "saved" have no fear of the Lord.  As for me, I think I'll remain hopeful but also humble and fearful.  :365:

Proverbs 1:7

English Standard Version

7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;
    fools despise wisdom and instruction.

I appreciate your feedback and I love your username, by the way.  :)

I have a slightly different perspective.  In keeping with Ephesian 2:8-9 I believe that I should be extremely thankful for my blessing of faith and that I should be obedient by striving to be humble about my (hopeful) redemption and not, as the verse says, "boast" about it.

Ephesians 2:8-9

English Standard Version

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

I hope I'm wrong, but you may not fully understand the verse.

"not a result of works, so that no one may boast"

Because we cannot receive salvation because of any work we do, therefore it is all about God's grace, He does it all, and all we can do is believe. NO works can gain salvation. Our works are an evidence that we HAVE BEEN saved! We do good works because of God's love and mercy, at the cross. We cannot brag at all about our working FOR salvation, because it is from God, totally.
However,
I continue to 'brag' about God's great sacrifice on the cross for little ole me!
He did it all. And that is worth BRAGGING about!
I am not ashamed of the gospel!

Some food for thought in the Psalms:

Psa 40:9-10  I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness In the great assembly; Indeed, I do not restrain my lips, O LORD, You Yourself know.  (10)  I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth From the great assembly.

Psa 71:15  My mouth will declare Your righteousness and Your salvation all day long, though I cannot know their full measure.

And in the New Testament:

1Pe 1:3-5  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,  (4)  to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,  (5)  who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

Please excuse my stupidity.

I will now use that "ignore" function that I heard about and so I won't be reading, let alone responding, to any more of your posts.  Good luck.

???????

What did I do?  I was not calling you stupid.  "It's not rocket science" is something I say all the time about salvation.  It's a phrase - not an accusation.

C'est la vie - as you will.

I do think that I understand the verse.  I think it's great to "boast" about what Jesus did for us but that's not the same as someone proclaiming to others that they are "saved".  :noidea:

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
