I just came across a study that strongly indicates there's something genetic going on.  Someone took data about thousands of families with grown gay children and something jumped out:  the brothers of gay men are more fertile -- or at least they end up having more children.  That suggests that there is some common gene that in one person results in same-sex attraction and in that person's brother(s) results in a higher reproductive rate!

That led to looking back at the twin studies, which have been argued both ways; the researcher reviewed data from heaps of studies and concluded that they do show a genetic aspect, but it's small; a higher correlation is still birth order.

How those work together I have no idea; my head aches trying to think about it!

At any rate, assuming that the birth order connection is real, that would mean that ancient Rome had several times the proportion of actual (as opposed to learned) homosexuality than today's word does because families had a lot more children back then!  If so, that would have served as a magnifier of the societal trend.

Oh -- as for seeing God's hand at work, I tend to refrain from including that because I'm looking for cause and effect.  If in the data there was at some point a sudden surge in a society's practice of male-male sex that can't be explained sociologically, that would be something to point to and say, "I think this is where God cut them loose".  Unfortunately we don't have such generational data from any long-enduring political unit, but if we had a time machine and could go check I'd bet that somewhere around the time of Julius Caesar there was such a surge -- that being the point at which conquering other people became a thing that any ruler needed to do, leading to more wars, more victories, and more "domination" of enemies.

Responding to the opening post at this late date in the life of the thread:

No I do not think  it is a defect. I do believe all are born defective though.

Not accountable but defective.

Once accountable then none are with excuse from following God's declarations and commands.

..."do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.  And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God."...

So are any with excuse before God? Seems not , least according to the general message  within Romans 1:20.

HOWEVER, of the  immoralities declared  unacceptable in the sight of God, all can be fixed by God. God can fix it- ask of Him.
