Thanks Dennis for your thoughts.

If you are viewing this in that context, then I can see the logic behind the thinking that says it can't happen today. The way I'm seeing it, unbelief in the face of the facts is a form of blasphemy. The more serious offense though is attributing the power of God to the power of Satan, knowing full well it isn't true. Maybe that second thing is the one that differentiates this from most ther similar sin?

Okay. The way I understand it, the unpardonable sin, if anything, will be committed in the end times.  Here’s my take, but first of all, to repeat what we know, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is when, with full knowledge of the presence of His power, for one to deny and teach against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him. (Matthew 12:32).  (There is no sacrifice greater than that which Jesus Christ did. And if an individual "willfully" stands against Him, there is no atonement left for him.)

Let’s look in Luke.  Notice the “AND” after “forgiven,”  which means a continuing thought:

And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven. And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say: For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.

- Luke 12:10-12 (KJV)

I believe this passage actually tells us when it is possible to commit the unforgiveable sin.  In the (very) latter days, some of us will be delivered up before the antichrist.  The Holy Spirit will come upon them/us at that point (probably as the Holy Spirit did on the first day of Pentecost in Acts 2) to bear witness and testify before people.  I believe this will happen again when the AC is here. It will be blasphemy against the Holy Spirit if someone makes the decision at this time to deny and reject the Holy Spirit when He wants to speak through us as a witness to the whole world of the Truth of God’s Word.

Thank you for your reply. Truly I think that the inspired writer was not about to give revelation about the cause of death. But ten times in scripture the death of a man was established by him "giving up the spirit". I was in a discussion with a fellow saint about death. James 2:26 is about dead faith. But he also establishes another truth - that a body that has divested itself of its spirit is also dead.

This will be a long one.

I appreciate the answers and explanations offered by my brothers and sisters. :)

If I have anything to contribute to the topic --- which is encouragement first and foremost! --- it's that I have learned what is not blasphemy of the Spirit of the Lord. I ought to know this very well.

Before the Lord called me out of the blue, I thought Christians were phonies. I didn't foster a high opinion of those who would become the family God intended for me all along. I wasn't there yet, for the time had yet to arrive.

Much of that had to do with the influence home life exerted upon me. I could be flippant, sarcastic, and insufferably irreverent toward anything having to do with the Lord and especially Christians. I won't share the zingers I threw to offend Christians who approached me, but suffice to say I couldn't be reached...

Yet.

I uttered things which would grieve me to overhear these days. The point I'm making above is thus: there was nothing I could possibly do to offend the Almighty upon His throne. Who am I anyway? The Lord knew me when I didn't know Him, and He had plans regarding my estate.

I was arrogantly ignorant. Yes indeed!

When the time arrived and the Spirit of the Lord spoke, calling me to the Son of God, my arrogant ignorance evaporated in an instant. I knew right away that He is God, and I can only describe my state in the following way: I was completely undone.

This didn't cure me of nascent cluelessness. On the contrary, I only knew when I witnessed the works of the Spirit unfolding; I knew this on account of the nature of His calling. Christians still proved difficult for me to get along with and the Lord knew this well. It was terribly ironic considering how I was now a Christian myself... :whistling:

Many years later when I wandered this country without a home, I stumbled mightily. When the Lord sent me to the woman who would become my adopted mother, and I learned about the tribulation which she endured for longer than I had been alive, I burned with rage at what had been done to her. The things she suffered by the hands of those who professed the name of Christ --- Christians --- were unthinkable, and some of it was unspeakable.

All those years of wandering which began when I was cast out by elders of that fellowship which the Lord sent me to after He called me out of this world, only for Him to cast me headlong back into it, drove me mad with rage. I was incensed at the Lord!

He refused to destroy me, so I languished on this earth for a very long time.

I made a vow to the Lord in my blind anger: this woman, who was hated and despised, is more valuable than I am. "Let me stand in her place, Lord! I'll gladly face the flames if it means that her suffering will come to an end. You hate me, Lord, so honor my vow: I will die so she may live. My life for hers!"

That was my vow in those mountains. Everything for her... a stranger, but she was worth so much more than my pathetic life. The Lord did indeed honor my vow. After those violent criminals who promised to kill her were driven away --- the Lord Himself did this thing --- it was my life for hers. She was safe at last and would live, but this was when I became sick and started to die... slowly and horribly.

In spite of my foolhardy ignorance, I intended to fulfill that vow. As impossible as it might seem to the reader, this pleased the Lord greatly. Oh, but I was so blind! I had forgotten the words of the Lord over those long years of being destitute.

He foretold everything that came to pass, including that vow. The scriptures explain to us that all things serve the Lord; the schemes of the wicked... and even the stupidity of one He had chosen.

There were many reasons why I begged the Lord to destroy me when He came to me in the shadow of death. In the overwhelming brightness of His glory I witnessed what I had done --- how foolish and even wicked I had become --- and I despaired. I was only fit for the fire.

This is why I encourage the suffering and those who struggle greatly. After I pleaded with the Lord to finish me, I offered my life into His hands. I had no inkling what that meant, but He surely did. This was what He expected of me all along: that offering was my proper sacrifice to the Lord who called me out of darkness into His marvelous Light. My life for Him!

Not only will our Lord Jesus Christ forgive all manner of stupidity and even wicked idiocy, but He redeems the time. What was intended for evil is purposed for good by God Himself. For the longest time, I looked back upon those days with no small measure of shame. I blew it royally but the Lord not only forgave me for that arrogant nonsense, but He lifted me up and displayed His power in me.

Blaspheming the Spirit is not what many believe it to be, I think. It's not committed according to the stupidity of man. If it were, then I wouldn't be here finishing this lengthy post. :)

Hello @missmuffet.

This is not truth as an absolute for everyone who dies without the faith of Jesus Christ in his heart , but only for those who have died with the denial to believe in Jesus Christ...

Not if they have heard about the Gospel but if they heard enough to cause the denial to be registered and be found in their heart.

This what Jesus empathized, because he was speaking to people when he said if you do not believe in me you will die in your sins...

He was talking to people who had given the opportunity to believe in him when the Gospel was preached to them from the disciples...

He said that to those who had celebrated the day of the Atonement and were under the Atonement made by the blood of the sacrificial animals who had their sins forgiven under the Law of Moses...

Jesus informed them inspite of that they will be found in their sins... Jesus was saying that the old Covenant will be set aside with the beginning of the knew Covenant the forgivenes of their sins in the blood of the Lamb of God who is Jesus and who died on the Cross..Jesus had to died.

As men and women toiling upon this earth, it's good to remember that we see darkly and know only in part. I believed that the Lord despised me when He did not. He never forgot me in my suffering.

My adopted mother believed that the Son of God hated her when the opposite was true. For all the evil she suffered by the hands of evil men, and how her only son was taken away minutes after he was born; and then her family of believers betrayed her and did terrible things under this sun; for all of these things, the Lord honored her greatly during the sunset of her life.

We think we know but in truth, we don't. God does as He pleases. :)

I probably do not have anything new to add to this.  If you are making yourself miserable over this, then you haven't done it.  Someone who has done it would have a very hard heart that hates God and things of God.  I have known people very hard hearted in this respect that have made me wonder about them.  The Scribes and Pharisees were very hard hearted.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
