Revelation 7:1-8 – God’s People Are Marked with a Seal

Revelation says that the redeemed bear a seal on their foreheads. The seal consists of the names of God and the Lamb and shows that the redeemed belong to God (Revelation 14:1). The seal is presumably not a visible one but a way of indicating that people find their identity in relationship to God and Christ. This seal or relationship does not mean that people are exempt from all earthly suffering, but it does show that God has claimed them and gives them the promise of life everlasting. John hears that those who are sealed number 144,000 from the 12 tribes of IsraelThe patriarch Jacob fathered twelve sons who became the ancestors the Twelve Tribes of Israel. Divisive political conditions led to a separation of these united tribes into the Northern and Southern Kingdoms after the death of Solomon in 931 B.C.E More (7:4), but when he turns to look at them he discovers that they are actually a countless multitude from every tribe and nation (7:9). The 144,000 are not a special ethnic group. The imagery describes the whole people of God. The seal that they bear is the opposite of the mark of the beast, which is introduced in Revelation 13:11-18.

Can it be said that it must be in the future because there has never been a historical record of people being beheaded for refusing it?

Revelation 17 :11, this is satans world and he uses his tares to make the Martyrs of Christ. The complete will not be revealed till after the 5th seal is opened.

The thought that John was given this prophecy “the moment Jesus ascended into the throne room” is absolutely incorrect as John was on the island of Patmos when he received this vision.

The whole vision was connected and given at one time, on the island of Patmos.  Rev. 1:9

From everything I know, that is true.  That is what I believe.

But if it were otherwise would it make any difference as to the meaning(s) of the vision?  I ask because I want to avoid misunderstanding the scripture as much as possible.

Rev 13:15,16 The False Prophet - He was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that it could speak and cause all who refuse to worship the image to be killed.  He force everyone small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead.  So no one could buy or sell without it.

Rev 13:3 - The whole world was astonished and followed the beast who had the fatal wound. v.10 - If anyone is to go into captivity, into captivity he will go, or they will be killed with the sword.

Rev 14:9,10 - If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives his Mark on the forehead or on his had, he too will drink of the wine of Gods fury... He will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of God and the holy angels.  There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast or receive the Mark of his name.

Rev 9:20 - The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent...  Rev 16:8 - .. but they refused to repent and glorify him. v. 11 - and they refused to repent.

The Harpozo/Rapture has not happened as yet,  We can all buy and sell freely.

Sorry to inform you, I am a Believer in Jesus Christ who was crucified, buried, and arose again on the 3rd day and ascended into Heaven, and have received the Holy Spirit.  Just waiting for the Harpozo, if it happens in my lifetime.  If I die beforehand, so be it.  I am secure, are you.  Do you need to jump through anymore hoops to be counted as Worthy.

I think it would not change meanings.

I was just reacting to the idea that John was watching the ascension and immediately received the revelation.

It was actually several years later on Patmos.  Some believe John was around 90 years old at the time.

Only when anti-Christ is here.

Rev. 13:11-16 tells of another beast which arises out of the sea.  He has various powers among which is the power to require people take the mark  of the beast or not be able to buy or sell.

This cannot happen until after the rapture because these two beasts are present after the tribulation has begun. They must be present to enforce this law.

Since the tribulation has not begun and the beast and anti-christ  are not in power no one can take this mark today.

Correct.  The second beast(the one who had the fatal wound and came to life) is termed as the a/c.  The False Prophet is the one doing miracles and wonders in front of people and causing people to worship the A/c and receive his mark.  Both are cast into the LOF before the 1000 reign of Christ.
