I recently met somebody with a beautiful tattoo on her ankle /foot which gave her many opportunities to talk about the Lord .. the tattoo from this lady was beautiful ( olive tree) we never know how God can use anything to draw some people closer to Him.

@angels4u Among Christian women the response to tattooing I think is likely to be quite varied and all encompassing.

Tattoos are unlady-like. That is why I would never have one.

In the first quote, Cachalot seems to regard it as unlady-like, supposedly

In the second, godlywoman413 seems to regard her own tattoos in a fairly neutral light.

Whereas the lady with whom you spoke recently seemed to give you the impression of rather joyfully being a tattooed Christian lady, with many testimony opportunities coming directly from the ink up procedure she chose.

While some ppl are indeed totally dismissive, others may recognize that faith based ink ups may convey testimony joy that comes directly from the heart.

( cc @AFlameOfFire FYI, I can't remember if I've drawn your attention to this thread, either, that I started; I know you're not into the poll aspect of things )

FYI, copied recently to @Willa in another thread because of a different aspect.

Seems like for some 18 year olds the first tattoo kind of represent a stage of life when heavy metal music is increasingly appreciated:

"My son will be 18 soon. Now, you must understand – I homeschooled until he was in the 8th grade, we read millions of books together, did tons of things together, even taught a kindergarten church class together. He truly is sweet, kind and helpful......And now – my sweet son LOVES LOVES LOVES heavy metal......music full of screaming...Everything I looked down on as far as music – he loves. I have learned that his music is actually more complicated, etc. than I ever realized...This process has been so very hard for me….  He has wanted a tattoo for a long time, and will get one on his back as soon as he turns 18 (a verse to a song)... I know that he has a heart of gold inside. ... I have learned about it and respect the talent and knowledge that some of those bands possess – and he appreciates that I am willing to learn. Not quite like that over here in Oz, though.

@Marilyn C So do you think that in Australia it's still more men than women who get tattooed?

@Marilyn C Interesting; thanks; because I saw this quote from a lady who said she was from Australia, with the screen name Heavenhome:

..........................

My dear Dad had two tattoos but that was from his navy days.
I have noticed however that lots of young girls have them and what is really noticeable is a huge amount are women say around their sixties .

So maybe it varies in different parts of Australia?

@Marilyn C Yes, the regional variation in weather in Australia is something that ppl elsewhere likely forget. Up here where there are cold winters and hot summers, it's like clockwork, almost: November to April, long sleeves. Suddenly - not least at supermarket check-outs from May to around October suddenly all the ink appears......then down come the sleeves again in November or so (and not only the young ppl at the check-outs, the significantly older also).

Because it is indeed so widespread, this is likely part of the background of why all the young ppl with Bible verses tattooed with whom I have spoken seem to have had them done as witness tools.

I have no issue with anyone getting a tattoo of their own choosing, especially if it's faith-based.

Just not for me. :)

@Ps37 As regards faith based tattoos, it seems like there is quite a wide range of circumstances under which faith based ones are obtained.

Some seem to involve quite some hesitation and weighing up and planning and then it's eventually done confidently without regrets.

For others, e.g., in the rural Bible Belt, the first faith based ink up leading to more of them can seemingly be the expected thing to do with no hesitation:

..in the rural Bible Belt. Just about every person in three of the four sides of my family (bio parents, step parents) have multiple tattoos. Most of them are biblical (crosses between the shoulder blades are the most common ones) getting tattoos when your old enough is pretty much expected in the family.

For all of these, however, the key concept seems to be participation in it, as if to say, as the ink is pumped through the needles, in a faith based design, What it expresses is what really motivates me.

For me as with so many others there is nothing in the word of God against tattoos unless they are doing it like God told Israel not to do. .. We can add burdens to those that have them or make them feel condemned. I pause and think wait and listen to the sweet spirit of God and do not believe they are wrong. Just really need to think before. Most can't get them off.. so I choose to say words of life.

@TheBlade

All the young ppl with Bible verses tattooed with whom I have spoken seem to have received them as witness tools.

For them all, the trip to tattoo parlor seemed to have been with having testimony joyously in view. A young lady that my wife and I talked to had the whole of the wording of John 3.16 inked onto her wrist area: her favorite Bible verse and mine also; for her the joy of being a tattooed woman appeared to be about communicating Christian testimony.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
