“Faith without works is dead” is a phrase that appears in the Bible, in the book of James 2:14-26. The passage explains that faith alone is not enough to save a person, but that faith must be accompanied by good works.

The passage gives examples of how faith and works are intertwined, such as how Abraham was justified by his works when he offered his son Isaac on the altar, and how Rahab the harlot was justified by her works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way. The passage concludes that just as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead 12345.

Reminds me also of Ephesians 2.8-10:

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."

I don't understand how faith and works can be separated.

Faith changes who you are and who you are determines the works you do in your life, how can it be otherwise?

It says, by faith we have access into the grace of God by which we stand and so faith (even there) is not alone. Paul says, but by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain;  but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

He attributes all his laboring to the grace of God that was with him.

Not to mention we have all been dealt a measure of faith right? I would also regard the grace of God as the effectual working in that measure of faith.

James was addressing the "O Vain man" in respects to faith without works whereas Paul addresses the receiving the grace of God in vain, so between them they could very likely be better reconciled given who and what they are talking to, since the grace given Paul was not in vain but was effectual in him and through him (works wise) showing his faith was not alone but touching more  on the grace (or the effectual working) in the measure of faith he preached.

Where does it say faith alone in the Slain Lamb of God, God does not bestowed on anyone the Eternal Life of Jesus Christ the moment they believed before they do anything?  That the believer is not in Jesus Christ who is the Eternal Life. Certainly Jesus Christ is not in Death seperated from the Heavenly Father. If that was the case Jesus Christ is not the way to the Heavenly Father, he is not the door to Heaven.

Abraham was a righteous man in a double portion of righteousness. The first  portion it was for him being a righteous man when the Lord God talked to him and in Genesis 15:7:God declared him righteous by a declaration which means if from that time on Abraham sin his sin God will not count against him. With the Covenant of Circumcision God gave to the children of Abraham righteousness and like Abraham he did not count their sins against them till the time of the Sinai Covenant. When he first gave them the Priesthood and the Law with the ceremonial cleansing and the Atonements done in the Temple or at that time in the Tent of Testimony.

In Genesis 17: God told Abraham that when he will ask something from him he had to do it and Abraham agreed. Abraham like Jesus Christ had to obey God when he asked something from them, they were subject to judgment if they would disobeyed and when Abraham obeyed God when he Asked him to offered Issac Abraham because of his obedience remained in his righteousness which he had by believing in the Promises God gave him that it did no matter to God how old he was that he will have children and be a great nation and as we will always have the sand of the sea and the stars in the sky so and his descendants will go on and on and they will bever be subject to extinction. Or to be assimilated and be lost to another race or culture as with their captivity to the Egyptians and the other Nations that follow, a remand of them was always preserve.

About Rahab is another matter because she was not Justified or under the Atonement of the Law and she was a Gentile an unclean woman but God preserve her life and she Joined the Israelites and she was invited to be joined to them and to their beliefs, she became one of them.

James never said that faith alone in the Atonement of Jesus Christ is not enough for a believer in him to be under the Grace of God, to be in Jesus Christ in him in his righteousness and in his eternal life and a partaker have his sins under the Atonement of the Slain Lamb of God who died on the Cross who is Jesus Christ whom God appointed to be the Lord and the Judge of all.

Janes said if you have the faith and say to someone who is in need for bread "be well and God will help you" but you are not giving him any bread when you have and you send him away empty handed. This man went away still hungry....Jesus wants us  to help the needy, he wants soneone else to help the needy and if he use anyone who has compassion for "his neighbour" whether he is a believer or not. He can move the mountains to open the way. Till he can find someone with some compassion. In our times we still do something similar we pray for the needs of one another. The example James gave it was an example from what was happening in his congregation. And he brought this up to the people who were saved by the blood of the Slain Lamb of God Jesus Christ. In him in his Eternal life.  Who had passed from death to Life.

During the seased of Jerusalem by the Syrians the people ate all the forbidden living beings to survive. That was their punishment from God so they can see themselves poluted as the Lord was seeing them as they were poluted by the worship of the Idols not all of them but many of them.

For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision avails anything neither un-circumcision.
But faith which works by love.

For faith without works is dead, being alone.

Galatians 5:6 and James 2:17-18 are in perfect harmony.

@FJK The two aspects are seen in Ephesians 2.8-10: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. Agree the two scriptures are in complete harmony. Works alone can't save us because we remain sinful daily. There for its by God's undeserved kindness that we are saved. However we must have actions that prove we are Christian. Christ himself had actions that proved he believed in God, therefore as followers of Christ we must do the same, John 13:35 states the identifying mark is Love. Love is a quality that must be manifest by actions/works.

Faith.. you didn't even touch. See faith alone can save? We are saved by grace through faith not of works. Its a gift meaning you did nothing to get  it nor do you do anything to keep it. The key is here "not by works, so that no one can boast."

The promise delight your self in the lord He will give you the desire's of your heart. Now what has to follow is the work commit your way unto the LORD. Trust(hello faith) also in him; And he shall bring it to pass. Christ what ever you desire when you pray believe you receive it you shall have it. There is the faith and works. Abraham.. he believed what God told him then he acted on that.  Like Christ saying lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. There we have the promise. Peter and John.. "You Israelites, why are you amazed at this, and why do you look so intently at us as if we had made him walk by our own power or piety". Later "And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom you see and know". Faith and works.

See if God ready spoke something its done and those words which He spoke can not come back to Him void. So if God said it He will do it..has to for He is not a man that He should lie. So again if God ready give you a promise...why would you pray for it just receive it. My peace I leave with you.. blessed are they that have never seen yet believe. Just top of my head Psa 91. All my life prayed Psa 4 read it. Read how David starts "hear me when I call unto you" then just a few verses later "the lord will hear when I call unto Him".

Take that and them jump to NT if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions/prayers that we have asked of Him. Ooh but there is something else in James none the less "But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord". Did you get that? Anything.

In all of Israel Christ had not seen so much faith as that solider had. Think about that.. all those people no one had just that much faith to believe. That solider new not hope not guess not maybe he knew if that "Jesus" just spoke it it had to happen! Do read His word and know if He spoke it it has to happen? You have to work your faith. Its not what anyone says.. just believe Him and His word.  Just look at faith and works nothing else in between.. in other words don't get stuck on something I said when I was just trying to talk about faith and works. See I like you can only share what I know and have experienced. This is what I believe what I found not form someone else that said. Truth.. you don' t know me I am not like most. I know what so many preachers say and believe I just found I needed to find it believe it.

I ooh LOVE MUSIC and if you oh sad... ever heard me sing you would be like this girl that came up and said "you listen to BJ THOMAS huh? Yeah how did you know? You sound just like him". Since I was so young I would listen to him and copy him. Been asked told so many times how do you do that with my voice. The sad part is.. I didn't know you make that music your own. Had to find my own style.. a tad late yet lol. So I don't share just what I believe I have the faith and works and fruits to back it all up.

I just read what He said and believed.. I still have my 1st bible and I would circled so many verses. I never understood why they just jump out at me. I was told then that's GOD talking to you.

So yes all that to say faith and works must go together. Sorry if this was hard to read.. its not you its me.. all my life not a speaker or writer or speller

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
