I would have to say that any action/work stems from believing what we hear. Do we EVER "do" anything for no reason? Now, if that work begins to turn into a self-righteousness/pride issue, then it becomes sin. (Pharisees) They began in belief didn't they? Lest why would they obey in the first place?

In His Love,

Suzanne

I hope I do things (the good things at any rate) for the Lord, not for any personal benefit.

Just like love, Faith, grace, mercy, righteousness, and Christlikeness the fruits of The Spirit will be manifested in the works. In other words the only acceptable works will be those which are a result of all the above.

The works that are done in an attempt to gain God's favor or to manipulate Him in some way are of no use in our relationship with God. There is no way He can be manipulated.

Matthew 21:28 "But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, 'Son, go, work today in my vineyard.' 29 He answered and said, 'I will not,' but afterward he regretted it and went. 30 Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, 'I go, sir,' but he did not go. 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said to Him, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you. 32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but tax collectors and harlots believed him; and when you saw it, you did not afterward relent and believe him.

Are works of interest to God?

Romans 2:5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6 who "will render to each one according to his deeds": 7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; 8 but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness--indignation and wrath, 9 tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek; 10 but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

Psalms 65:12 Surely you will reward each person according to what he has done.

Proverbs 24:12 Will He not repay each person according to what he has done?

Greetings to all,

God's blessings :24:

QUOTE

A person cannot of his own will control himself.

[My question]

If this statement were true, then why does God command us to add to our faith (trust) temperance (Moderation and self-restraint, as in behavior or expression)

[God's testimony]

[iI Peter 1:5-8]

5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith (trust) virtue (Moral excellence and righteousness; goodness); and to virtue knowledge;

6 And to knowledge temperance (Moderation and self-restraint, as in behavior or expression); and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren (impotent) nor unfruitful (unproductive) in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

[My questions]

Why would God tell us, no command us to add something, if we would not be able to do that thing?

That's like saying that we can't repent of our wickedness, if not, then why does God command us to repent, as part of the restoration process? (Repent and be baptized)

I don't understand, where does your responsibility to the covenant begin :48:

Your brethren in Christ,

Repent1.... :24:

Greetings Suzanne,

Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ :24: .

I think in this instant, examining the spiritual meanings of these words will provide you with the answer:

Fruits---Results

Meet----Fitting/suitable

Works----Actions/deeds/activities

Matthew 3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits (results) meet (suitable) for repentance (Remorse or contrition for past conduct or sin) :

My question is, "do you agree with this?" "Are fruits (results) and works (actions/deeds) compatible in meaning to you?"

[My question]

How would you answer that question now, looking at it from this view?

Acts 26:20 But shewed (showed) first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent (cease from willful sin) and turn to God, and do works (actions/deeds/activities) meet (fitting) for repentance (Remorse or contrition for past conduct or sin).

Your brethren in Christ,

Dear Repent1,

It's been a while since I last read this thread, so I had to go back to the 1st page and start over. I was in agreement with what you wrote above, but felt that you were leaning towards the 2 being separate. After going back over ALL of the first page of this thread, I still have to sway towards them both being compatible/interchangable. Read the whole first page and tell me what you conclude. There just seem to be SO many passages that make them interchangable.

Thank you for posting, and I look forward to your reply.

Suzanne

Greetings Suzanne,

I pray you the Joy, peace and love of the shepherd of our souls :21:

[You said]

I still have to sway towards them both being compatible/interchangeable.

[My testimony]

I agree with you, they compliment each other, your works (actions/deeds/activities) should bare fruits (results) meet (suitable) for repentance (Remorse or contrition for past conduct or sin):

All this leading to conversion (A fundamental change in one's conversation [ways, behavior, and manner of life]).

[Matthew 18:3-4]

3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

[Luke 22:32]

32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

[Acts 3:19]

19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.

Walking with you in the spirit of love,

Your brethren in Christ,

Repent1

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
