Israel won't quit.

The US is helping.

Several countries have pledged to aid Iran. 

Iran threatens the Strait of Hormuz.

The world likely won't allow that.

There is a threat to attack shipping in the Gulf.

That would be a mistake.

Would 5 or 6 countries allied against Israel give rise to Israel's protector?

Could we be seeing the onset of the beginning of the end? 

For the pretrib crowd: No, the beast isn't coming from Europe or Rome or anywhere else but the Mideast.

These events quite possibly being the precursors of Daniel 11:40 - 12:1ff. :

Daniel 11:40 “At the time of the end, the king of the South [the evil spirit now dominating Iran] shall attack him; and the king of the North shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter the countries, overwhelm them, and pass through. 41 “He shall also enter the Glorious Land, and many shall stumble [lit. be weak-legged] ; but these shall escape from his hand: Edom, Moab, and the prominent people of Ammon. 42 He shall stretch out his hand against the countries, and the land of Egypt shall not escape. 43 He shall have power over the treasures of gold and silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; also the Libyans and Ethiopians shall follow in his steps. 44 But news from the east [China?] and the north [Russia] shall trouble him; therefore he shall go out with great fury to destroy and annihilate many. 45 And he shall plant the tents of his pavilion between the seas at the glorious holy mountain [= the Abomination of Desolation}; yet he shall come to his end, and no one will help him.

Have you wondered where those of Israel are to flee too. (Matt 24:15-19)  Mostly East of the Jordan River, out of harms way. 

Those armies from the South (Africa) must travel through Jerusalem on their way to Armageddon; their only available route.  The army from the North (Russia) as you say travel south through Syria.  The 200,000,000 out of the East (China) travel West over the dry Euphrates River after killing 1/3 of mankind. And the armies of the West (Europe); which are the Beast's, False Prophet's and the Dragon's armies occupy Israel and also travel via boat to Armageddon.

A good question?  In Biblical times, what did the winepress of a wealthy land owner look like?  How is it similar to the Valley of Megiddo.  Which is about 180 sq. miles. (Rev 14:20)

Yes.

But it is a little way off yet, as a time when people will be saying: Peace and safety, will come now. Iran will agree to give up Nukes and stop the war and Israel will cease operations in Gaza. It is also likely that Russia and the Ukraine will agree to stop their war, with Russia taking over some territory. 

Then we can all read for ourselves what happens after that: 1 Thessalonians 5:3

The Prophecy in 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11, is very applicable for today, just before the Day of the Lord, which will come unexpectedly.
We are told that in that time, people will say -'Peace and Safety', as Israel and Iran cease hostilities now and a peace agreement will be sponsored by America.
THEN; -destruction falls upon them.....and there will be no escape. This will be the many Prophesied Day the Lord sends His fiery wrath, to change the world and commence all the end times things.

Of course its easy to say now, but remember, its not really about Iran and Israel in Gog and Magog its about ONE MAN (Gog) leading a coalition of Nations against Israel as in Russia, Turkey, Iran and a few North African nations probably used as bases to try and come at Israel from two sides, those nations mentioned offer little else tbh.

I think the real inflection point is Russia vs. Europe, not just Ukraine. They are sowing seeds of hatred as we speak. Satan is very intelligent. He knows God is going to defeat Russia, Turkey and Iran on the Mount of God, so DECEPTION will be his strategy, he's going to "help Israel" via the E.U. and its Anti-Christ leader, and once God destroys 5/6 of those armies this AC will step forth and say, we used some "New Weapon that is top secret to incinerate those Armies. Israel will buy it and since the E.U. helped them and because they already have close ties and are a part of the European Neighborhood Policy (look it up), Israel will join the E.U. that is the AGREEMENT or Covenant so many people just can't figure out. That sets off God's clock. He will be angry at Israel for giving His land away, thus the 70th week and the Pre Trib. Rapture starts at the exact same time. Iran is just part of Magog, the leader will be Gog (Putin IMHO)

I'm never able to place the land of Magog any further north than Turkey, maybe to the Caucasus. If I'm being generous, it's possible Magog settled the area between the seas. 

I don't find Gog as land mass, and I don't know for sure that Magog is limited to any particular area. In Rev 20, "Satan will be released from his prison, 8and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth—Gog and Magog"

Here, Gog of the land of Magog is the whole earth and the inhabitants that can be deceived to fight against Holy Jerusalem. 

So while 'scholars' will place Magog in any place, and every place, from Pacific coast of China to the North Sea and all of Europe, I don't one definitive location or people group. It appears more that Magog is the army of Satan from across the breadth of the earth, Gog it's leader and chief prince.

You'll know when you see the Temple construction commence. We'll know before that, but there will be no doubt when the Temple stands again.

The idea is that something will occur to lead down the path to the beginning, of the beginning, of the end of the age, down the path from which there is no return. There should be something that will be the cause leading to the necessary events as signs we can see, showing us we are approaching the end of the age.

Something like this Israel/Iran thing could be one. 

But now I don't know because it appears as though it's done. But that could be just appearances. 

Something that I see is the idea of some entity with power and authority guaranteeing safety for Israel while the Temple is rebuilt. I hear rumors a large sector of the Arab/Muslim world is not opposed to a rebuilt Temple. But of course the radicals would see a Jewish Temple as a grave insult to Allah and try to stop it. 

Israel would need a protector, someone who has the power to stop attacks. Hmmm....
