Democrats propose Bible course for public schools

The textbook, released earlier this year, has been praised by educators, as well as Christian and Jewish leaders, for its depth of research, accuracy and fairness.

Contributing author Marc Stern, general counsel for the American Jewish Congress, said the text "will serve as an excellent and even-handed introduction to the Bible."

Leland Ryken, professor of English at Wheaton College in Illinois, Billy Graham's alma mater, called the textbook "an undisputed triumph in scholarship and presentation. I learned something new on virtually every page."

Doesn't sound like we have to worry about the translation.

I'm looking at some of the people that helped set this up. I see that Os Guiness is one of them. Great fellow, got to meet him one time. Don't recognize some of the others, however if he is on it then I trust this a bit more. We can never be too careful...however it seems that this one might have it right.

Doubtfull. It's an elective course. The only way the ACLU would have any grounds to oppose this would be if it were a required course. Since it's an elective, the only people who will take the course are those who want to.

In the past the ACLU has filed lawsuits against schhols that allow the facilities to be used for after-school independent Bible studies.

The ACLU will fight it for the same reasons they always fight things like this: It's Christian in their minds.

I expect them to add a blurb about the school having to offer a course about every other religion in the world as well.

But the difference is, this isn't a Bible study. It even says so in the article posted. It's not promoting the Bible, but rather analyzing it's influence on society.
