I got a couple of DVDs wih 7 episodes of Bonanza for chrismas. I had to choke back the ears as I watched.

1 It was a very family oriented show with endearing qualities. God or the bible had an appearance in almost every episode. The characters represented honour, truth and basic goodness.

2 The shows from that era were virtually free of smut, gore and cussing.

3 all but 1 of the characters are dead.

There are many things from that era that make me feel weepy. I feel sad and scared for my kids because they have very differen influences to deal with.

The bible says that we are not to long for the good ol' days, but I can't help but feel my kids are being robbed of a more innocent life. No wonder I am so depressed a lot of the time.

Does anyone else feel this way:? :24:

Yep, Geri. I'm probably twice your age and I feel very much for the coming generations.

I too can remember when nearly every show could be watched by the whole family. Even the tough guys like Jimmy Cagney George Raft and Edward G Robinson never used foul language.

I have grandchildren, and I worry about what they have to deal with. Movies are soooo bad these days, once in a blue moon a good one will come out but not often. As far as t.v is concerned there is nothing wholesome on it. Whatever happened to sitting down with your family and a tub of popcorn and watching shows like flipper.

I think families need to turn the t.v off and spend time together, have a game night or whatever. They need the influence of family values not t.v.

I pray for my grandchildren, that's what gives me peace.

How about Little House On The Prarie and the Waltons? :)

I have every 'little house' book...they are so much better than the tv episodes!

I have a problem with nastalgia in certain areas of my life, a song from the past can really make me boohoo sometimes.

I think longing for better times is really a misplaced longing for our heavenly home.

i think of it not as being a sufferer of nostalgia, but rather of being BLESSED by nostalgia. i'm grateful that we grew up with more positive influences, and that they have not been forgotten... it is unfortunate that our children and grandchildren don't have as many positive influences... but we can still impart those values to our children... it just takes more work.

It would be a blessing if I could isolate my family from the world, bu I can't. The best I can do is abolish cable in my home and try and be as much like Pa Cartwright as I can in dealing with my kids. It just makes me so sad that they cannot experience the freedoms that I could as a kid.

Examples

1 School rules:

No wrestling

No hockey sticks

No snow forts and many more. I go to my kid's school every day to supervise the kids at lunch. We didn't need supervisors when I was in school.

2 I cannot let my kids go off the property without supervision. When I was a kid we would hike for miles without fear of being beaten up or abducted.

3 My wife and I are reluctant to assign a babysiter for the kids because of all the sexual abuse that goes on around here.

4 Music is no longer a form of enertainmen. It seems the most successful acts out there are the ones that promote hatred, violence and sex.

There's much more but why go on?

I find myself approaching God out of desperation more often than thanks. I know I should be thankful that He has brought us this far, but we have to stay on our toes to keep our kids safe. :)

How about Carol Burnette on Saturday evenings. Good clean funny! I have the first five years of the I Love Lucy show on DVD. Nothing like it. I miss those shows too.

I was refering more to the times than the shows. :) The attitudes of Joe public have changed alot since the advent of TV. People in 1950 probably had nostalgic issues about the 1920s too.

Sometimes I wonder if those times were really more innocent or was my perception of them more innocent. Things like sexual abuse and adultry and hatred existed back then but they were kept under wraps for some reason.

Gerioke,

Rick and I have started renting and/or purchasing the old shows on DVD because the new stuff we can not watch. I check the newspaper each Friday to see what is showing in the theatre by going down the list, looking first at the rating and then what the movie is rated for. Mostly what I see now days is sexual situations, sexual humor, crude humor, language, nudity, extreme violence, etc. listed under each movie title. I won't even read what it is about unless I don't see these things listed in the ratings. That just about leaves us with cartoons, and so many of those are doing the homosexual tolerance thing.

So, we've returned to watching the old TV shows if we watch anything at all. We don't watch regular TV except for the news, history channel, discovery channel, weather channel, etc., because there just isn't anything decent to watch.

Oh, if only we could return to life when things were more simplistic.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • George Whitten, the visionary behind Worthy Ministries and Worthy News, explores the timing of the Simchat Torah War in Israel. Is this a water-breaking moment? Does the timing of the conflict on October 7 with Hamas signify something more significant on the horizon?

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
