Well Alaskan Chick, I suggest praying would be your number one priority. Prayer is a very powerful tool. God fulfills all of the prayers we ask ( except if

the prayers are for vain materialistic things.) The second thing I suggest is that you consult someone ( like a local church pastor ) for some advice as well.

Finally, you should talk it over with your friends. Maybe you can somehow

convince them otherwise?

I hope this helps AC, and may the Lord bless you.

Well, if they are Christians, you can compare the lyrics to what the Bible says. If they protest, you may remind them of the churches written of in Revelation. There were two churches Jesus spoke against for their practice of compromising. The practice was "the teaching of the Nicolaitans." They were all into sexual immorality and other such sins, believing their freedom in Christ to live as they pleased. This was judged by Jesus.

I know music can be a hard issue with people. They love the music so much that they don't really care about what the song is saying. It takes conviction and a desire to please the Lord and live a life worthy of Him to turn away from it. I have heard of some people who after becoming saved developed a discust for the the music they used to love because of the lyrics. If your friends are Christians and don't care that the lyrics are speaking of things that completely go against Scripture, then you are dealing with a much deeper issue of their hearts. This is what you need to pray for.

Now, if they are not Christians, I would advise not pressuring them. I made this mistake with a non-Christian friend of mine. It only served to drive her away. You need to exercise patience with non-Christians in such areas., hard though it may be. You can tell them the priciple of "Garbage in, garbage out," but after that, any pushing on your part will just irritate them. They do not have the Holy Spirit inside of them as you do. So, you would be more effective to pray for their salvation and then let the Holy Spirit work on their hearts, as far as the music goes, once they have received Jesus.

I do listen to secular music and this is an issue I've been through in my own personal life. If the lyrics go against what the Bible says, the song goes off. However, there are so many clean, decent songs that I don't really think you can throw the baby out with the bathwater so to speak. Now, if we're talking a situation in which you can't get away from the bad stuff, give it up! Music is such an integral part of our lives that we hear it on TV in commercials and in so many other spots. The biggest thing that gave me a problem during my period of "gospel only" was this-I would watch the movie "Davy Crockett" and the theme song is played on the movie, which led me to question why I shouldn't listen to a different artist sing the same song with the same lyrics just because it was secular? I'd definetely say go where the Lord leads, but I don't feel God has convicted me on listening to secular music, but you do have valid concerns.

We just talked about this at a conference this weekend!

One of the interesting things that was brought up is about how Hollywood wants us to believe that the media can't have any negative impact, it just "reflects reality".

However, they use that same media to RAISE AWARENESS for AIDS, battered women, etc. and throw a fit everytime a homosexual is portrayed negatively, etc.

So why is it they think there is no negative impact, but it can be used to have positive impact?

You are what you eat. That applies to what we watch and listen to as well. You can't go unaffected.

It's hard enough to live a Christian life in today's society. Why add more complications to it by filling our minds with temptations to sin?

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
