If you do an internet search on exorcisms, posessions, demons that stuff there are documented cases. I have always been taught that we are protected from these things through Christ. So I do not know how it seems to be Christians that are the ones posessed. Can't we just call the name of Jesus and be protected? I am believing that through his name we have dominion. Please explain further.

"Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world". It is throught the power of the Holy Spirit living in us that Satan can be defeated. Just claim devine protection for (insert name here) in the name of Jesus and claim authority over Satan and his demons in the name of Jesus.

I am referring to events of the past that have been recorded in history. why did the exorcisms not work ?

As near as I can tell, Christians cannot be possessed, but can be oppressed and influenced by demons. Depending on how far back in history you go, sometimes "demon possession" was nothing more than a person with seizures or some sort of mental disorder, in which case there would be nothing to cast out.

True Christians who are in a love relationship with God cannot be possessed by demonic spirits but can be oppressed by them. The most important thing to do is recognise that you overcome all things by the Blood of the Lamb and the word of your testimony. Psalm 91 says that if you dwell in the secret place of the Most High, you abide under God's shadow and nothing can touch you. I would encourage you to renounce any association, attachment or ritual that you may have had in your life prior to your salvation experience, to stay in worship continually and to get as much of the Word into you as you possibly can so that you can fight the good fight of faith. Read Ephesians 6 and put on your armour every day.

The Greek text never distinguishes between 'possessed' 'oppressed' or 'influenced' by demons.

The word used in all cases could be translated simply "demoned" or as the JW's like to do it: "demonized."

I've never been involved in an exorcism that 'didn't work,' so I don't know how to answer your question. As near as I can tell, it has to be a lack of fasting and prayer.......

Actually, if you have no experience with the demonic realm, you are not going to know how to handle this question.

I, as a born-again, Spirit-filled Christian, have been demonized. Now, I've been in arguments over "oppression" vs. "possession" with this, but honestly it does not matter. The point was I had one or more demons screwing with my mind - thoughts, feelings.

(Edit: just read Leonard's post - I completely agree with what he said.)

As believers, yes we do have authority over demons, in Jesus' name. But if we don't know how to use that authority, it is very possible to not be very effective with it.

Remember the account of the disciples not being able to cast a demon out of a boy?

Sometimes, one has to dig out roots, so to speak, before the demons can be cast out. For instance, unforgiveness gives demons grounds to demonization of a person. When casting demons out of someone, repentance is key. If you did something like play with a ouiji board, you have to repent of that!

Now I can't answer specifics for the accounts you question. But I can say this - be careful about all this reading your are doing on this topic. Demons are sneaky. They can find some way to torment you through your investigating their activities like this. Even now there seems to be a spirit of fear hovering around you.

You need to renounce that fear, acknowledging it for what it is, and choose the fear of the Lord instead.

(And BTW, demons are very good liars - watch your sources. :( )

I've never done a search of such things, it's honestly never crossed my mind. This probably doesn't answer your question fully, but I think it would be a good idea to avoid putting too much focus, attention or curiosity into things like demon possession, the occult, etc. Don't open yourself up to such things, avoid it. If you have a growing, strong, healthy relationship with the Lord you have no reason to fear or worry about it. Spend your time studying Scripture and learning how to obey God. We should never put more emphasis on darkness and evil than we do on the power of God and His ability to overcome it. I'm not saying you've done that, but I know people who do. I know people who are literally obssessed with horror movies, the occult, demon possession, etc. It's unbalanced. Should we understand it and know how to combat it? Absolutely. But in my opinion, the internet is the last place to go looking for a proper understanding of it. Study the Scriptures, pray, seek the counsel of someone who is spiritually wise, mature and discerning if you feel a strong desire to learn more. Beyond that though, I'd say that if you have an extreme interest in such things, it might be unhealthy. Just my thoughts.

In the old testament, they cried, "God save the king." But King Saul wouldn't be saved. Saul was anointed of God, prophecied over by the prophet, and indeed king by the will of God, but Saul did not honor the Lord, and counted his relationship with God as unimportant, and eventually he was troubled by spirits, and only the playing of David (music)(who also was anointed by God, and would be king after Saul, but God said of David that he was a man after God's own heart) would give Saul some temporary refreshing.

Both were anointed by the same prophet, prophecied over by the same prophet, and dripped with the same anointing oil, but the difference was in what was precious to the individual, David treasured the heart of God while Saul was just trying to "get by" using whatever means he could, without a relationship with the Lord.

New Testament example in Acts 5 also brings death to the ones that lied to the Holy Ghost.

The point is that a relationship with the Lord Jesus can and does save you, but clinging to just legalisms or a doctrinal position without relationship does not necessarily save you nor protect you.

The devil knows the difference. "...Jesus I know, and Paul I know, but who are you?"

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
