OC,

After reading your thoughts and a lot of other historical opinions I am going to side with the opinion that Melchizedek is an unknown person. We know that he was not Christ incarnate. But we don't know much from that point. Without further revelation from God what can either of us say? God chose to keep it obscure. Maybe that will be one of the things he will tell us about in eternity.

I do see that it is a historical majority opinion that Melchizedek was not Christ and that believing so was largely a Gnostic idea that some in the modern churches have adopted. Probably enough was told to us through Scripture to illustrate why Christ belonged to a better priesthhood than the levitical one. Personally, for me, it shows how the Mosaic law and sacraficial rituals were, as Paul taught, a temporary tutor that convicted of sin and pointed the way to a savior, Jesus Christ.

Thanks for all of your imput and the time you spent being patient with me.

May God Bless You,

Mark

Hello Mark777,

Melchizedek certainly is an unknown person to us as far as the word of God is concerned for that information was left out and kept from us. and I think God did that intentionally in order to teach us and point us to the coming Messiah. And I think we both have learned and dicussed much on this good subject that you chose to discuss.

Yes, you are so correct in that apostle Paul did teach the law was our "schoolmaster" (our tutor or teacher) until the time of Christ came. And yes the law convicts us of our sins. Those offerings of the bulls and goats that that was offered up by the levitical priest hood was only temporary relief of their sins. Once a year the atonement sacrifice had to be made and the priest had to go into the Holy of Holies behind the veil and sprinkle the blood from the sacrificial offerings.

And when that was done and the priest came out alive then the people of Israel could rejoice and they knew there sins were forgiven them by God. But they could only feel that release just one time a year at the atonement sacrifice when it was made. They didn't have a clear conscious like we can to day as it say in Hebrew as well for Christ was a far better sacrifice and his blood spinkled our conscious from dead works to serve the living God. Today he removes our sins far from us as far as the east is to the west never to be remembered we can have a clear conscious before our God without condemnation anymore.

It truly was a blessing and I thank you so much for all the input in which you put into the conversation as well. I pray God will continue to richly bless your studies abundantly.

Here's an odd answer; not that I particularly endorse the answer, but there could be some speculation.....

First of all, there is a "Book of Jasher", mentioned in Joshua 10:13, and 2 Samuel 1:18.

"So the sun stood still,And the moon stopped, Till the people had revenge Upon their enemies. Is this not written in the Book of Jasher? - Joshua 10:12-14"

"...and he told them to teach the children of Judah the Song of the Bow; indeed it is written in the Book of Jasher:" 2 Samuel 1:18

Where is this Book of Jasher?

Quoting Stephen Jones,

"The book of Jasher was lost for many years, but in 1613 a very old copy was found in a rabbi's office in Venice, Italy. Ultimately, it was translated into English in 1840 and is available today. Its antiquity is apparent, not only by the purity of the Hebrew language (attested by its translators and others), but also by the copyist errors that inevitably creep into ancient manuscripts over the centuries. (It must not be confused with more recent forgeries that have appeared, such as one put out by the Rosicrucians in the 1800

As a side note, see http://logosresourcepages.org/History/jasher.htm for a well-studied analysis of "The Book of Jasher".

From 1 Corinthians 10:

1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;

4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

This being long before the birth of Jesus, so we know that the Christ was interacting with men personally.

From Hebrews Chapter 7:

1 this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;

2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

20 And inasmuch as not without an oath he was made priest:

21 (For those priests were made without an oath; but this with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec:)

Psa 110:4

22 By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

The order of Melchisedec is an eternal priesthood. Having neither beginning of days, nor end of life??????.......................King of righteousness???? King of Peace?????...............

There is only one King of Righteousness. There is only one King of Peace. The wording is so clear I do not see how it could be missed. Melchisedec is Christ.

A note on the phrase "unto God and His Father". God has a Father??? Certainly. Were not all things made by Christ, with the Power of the Holy Spirit, According to the will of the Father? Jesus Christ is God, subject to the will of the Father, who is also God, even though God is one God. This phrase is a direct quote from the King James bible, and a clear statement of the deity of Christ.

Melchisedec was styled as a type of Christ. Keyword is similitude.

Heb7 [15] And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,

Hello Adrian,

Ye hit the nail on the head. And you said it very well.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

      Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

      This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

      You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

      Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
