I am late to this discussion but here are my 2 cents.

I prefer the NIV. It reads the way we talk today. My wife liked the NASB. It is an excellent translation. I very often read both translations to get a clear view of what the Bible was saying.

If I were buying a Bible today, I would look long at one with three translations side by side in the same Bible.

I am also very late to this discussion... I prefer the ESV (English Standard Version) and the NIV, as they are both very accurate and very readable. I also have an NASB and an NKJV that I read from time to time.

I love my KJV Bible. I recently bought a Spirit Filled Life Study Bible in KJV and it is awesome!! I also like the Amplified Bible.

I recently bought a new Bible software program. It has a translation entitled World English and it seems pretty cool!

I tend to use a many differant translations. When reading the bible from differant translations it tends to shead more lite and give a better understanding of scripture.

I am not a KJV legalist but I do use the KJV because it is a more accurate translation then most. I found that when I am just reading the bible I normal use the New Living Translation, but when I when i am in deep study I use wide selection of word for word translations.

The most important part about the bible is not so much about having the most accurate translation but living and doing what you understand. Being a hear and a doer.

Its possible to live a powerful Christian life without ever reading a single scipture. My God is not limited to a book or something I read about but someone that lives and I know from a relationship by his Spirit.

KJV 1611 because it has had the least amount of translations and is probably closest to God's actual word. But that is just MHO.

Are you actually reading the 1611 KJV or one of it's newer versions? Remember, the ORIGINAL had the Apocrypha and was translated in the YE OLDE ENGLISH! (and not thee, thou, etc.-the really old stuff!!!)

Yes Ronald. It would be nearly impossible to read today. Here is an excerpt of words from the KJV:

"Sith the noise of the bruit of this school hath reached to thee-ward, we trust that our concourse liketh you well-particularly those who blaze abroad that there is error here. Whoso setteth thee against us-whoso saith we offend all-speaketh leasing. We be not affrighted, but withal, we are straightened in our bowels. We knoweth well that what thou wilst hear straightway wilt fast close up thy thoughts. With some we be abjects, some have defied us; but there has been no daysman betwixt us. They subvert the simple!"

While I understand the historical significance of the KJV, I find it extremely hard to follow while I read it. Therefore, I don't use it unless nothing else is available.
