It's like clasped hands--the whole works thing. We can't earn our salvation with works but we aren't saved without works.

I understand it but I can't explain it.

Our works will never save us, they are as filthy rags. But our works are important, as they show what is in our hearts, so you are right, we aren't saved without works that show we are saved.

From God's perspective: YES

From Man's perspective: NO

Unless one is born again of the Holy Spirit, one is not saved. This deposit is the guarantee of the inheritance which is pre-destined for the elect. Those who truly belong to Christ will never be lost.

There is a distinction between making a profession of faith, and being saved. Many confuse hearing the word of the Lord, receiving it, and making a profession of faith thinking they are "saved" when they are not.

He who has all knowledge can say from the beginning who is appointed to salvation. Man in his limited understanding does not know the heart of man and who will endure to the end.

Hiya minnow :verkle: welcome to worthyboards!! We are totally enjoying the ice cream this summer :o

...cool post by the way ... I agree totally that only God knows who is saved and who isn't. He is such a good God, quick to forgive and not willing that any should be lost :b:

I'm sorry Metin, but your statement is just plain ignorant! I certainly do not think I save myself, however I can choose not to be saved. We do still have free will, correct?

Many people think that they do not have to do anything to be saved. This is because we cannot earn salvation because we have sin that is deserving of death. Jesus did not die that we might continue in sin. It was to cover our sins if we confess, ask forgiveness, and repent.

Satan wants us to think that we don't need to do anything. HE wants us to seek our own pleasure and not repent. Repentance is the works of the spirit and the fruit of our salvation. We are saved by grace through faith. Faith without works is dead. Repenting is the turning away of our sin.

The fact of the matter is that we do have to do something to be saved. We must confess our sins to God, ask forgiveness, and repent.

It's that simple....Gods offer of salvation is conditional. I can confess and repent and be forgiven for a time, but do I lose my free will to backslide and choose to fall back into my old ways. There are warnings in the bible about that. That is why we must die daily to self.

We should never presume our salvation, unless we are walking with God in every aspect of our life. If you are living your life, without regard to Gods will, or his laws, believing that you are saved because you accepted Christ a long time ago, WAKE UP and repent!

I hope God will bless you, and that you will see the light. OSAS is a dangerous doctrine...it leads people to seek after their own lusts because they think they are sealed and can't be lost. They get a false sense of security and will be quite suprised when Jesus says I never knew you. That is not what Jesus died for.

Gods offer of salvation is conditional.

Gods gift of grace is free. The Holy Spirit is in me and can never be removed. We are new creations in Christ.

you say osas is dangerous well not believing it is dangerous, i take it you believe in 'states of grace' then? "be careful you die in a state of grace or you might not go to heaven." this is dangerous a false Catholic doctrine leading to doctrines of works.

The bible shows how these actions we need to do like repent are in fact due to the Holy spirit. john 3:5 titus 3:5 (rebirth), acts 11:15-18 1cor 2 9-12 (conversion),

romans 8:9 'You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit' v16 'The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children'. testifies is present, implying continuation. this testifying is not just a one off occurance but continues throughout a believers life.

eph 1:13-14 '...having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guarunteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possesion - to the praise of his glory.' (preservation)

What is one saved from if they continue to live a sinful lifestyle after salvation? If one is saved why do they continue to walk in sin after suppossedly being free from sin's slavery :emot-heartbeat:

Sure salvation is a free gift but not all will repent and turn from their sins and therefore will not recieve the gift as there is a condition place upon it and that is you have to ask to be forgiven and turn away from your former lifestyle of sin and be made a new creature in Christ. freely we have recieved and freely we give and extend the grace of God to others.

But our message is to persuade people to Be ye reconciled to God the only way to be reconciled in the relationship is to get rid of the things that are seperating us in the relationship and that is our lifestyle of sin we must walk away from it and leave it behind.

Needless to say, I haven't read this whole thread--it's way too long!! So this may have already been addressed. But I know someone who believes in once saved, always saved. But she really carries it to extremes. She believes that once you are saved, you can then go DELIBERATELY live the most sinful life imaginable, and still be saved.

If this is true, what are we waiting for--let's all go party!

That is why it is so dangerous to believe and teach such a doctrine. I have heard many, many people say that refuse to go to church because of all the hypocrisy that is allowed to run through denominations. People are walking according to their own sins and desires believing to be Christians because are taught that they don't need works and they are OSAS.

What people are also not realizing that all our works are is just our repentance from our sins. Christ may have paived the way for our salvation and reconciliation to God, but it is up to us to take our cross and follow Christ. We do that by deny ourselves and obeying the New Testement law which Christ brought.

Since we read in 1 Cor. 6:9 all the sins that can take both a sinner and a Christian to hell we repent of those sins. Everytime I read my bible and learn what God's will is and follow it I committ a Work. Not of my own will, but of GOD'S will. When he says to flee fornication because nobody that lives in it will obtain heaven and I repent of it I committ a work that we have been ordained to do (Eph 2:10). If I don't repent of it then I will end up in hell for that sin whether I have been saved or not.

Demas was a Christian that followed God and ministered with Paul, but he forsook paul for the love of the present world. How many Christians or people we know who do that? The backslide right out of the church right back into the world because they prefer the world over God? I have seen it happen. That doesn't mean they can never come back, but what happens when Christ comes back and finds me in that sinful state?

Sin condemns a Christian just as fast as a sinner when he won't repent of it.

Ezekiel 18:24 "But when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness, commits iniquity and does according to all the abominations that a wicked man does, will he live? All his righteous deeds which he has done will not be remembered for his treachery which he has committed and his sin which he has committed; for them he will die.

OSAS allows people to have their cake and eat it to in that they are taught Christ did everything on the cross and we don't have to do anything because we are saved by grace. Yes, we are saved by grace, but that is only the beginning. We have to live the rest of our lives according to how the 27 books of the New Testement command us to. That is why these scriptures -

2 John 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

I may have been saved when I was born again, but I will lose that very fast if I don't abide in the doctrine of Christ.

right on brother

Very true. Once we choose to accept the Holy Spirit, satan no longer has the power to take us to hell. He cannot take our salvation from us, but we can certainly walk away from it, and we can certainly ignore it. I have found nowhere in scripture where it says that we cannot lose our salvation. We cannot have it taken away by someone else, but we can certainly throw it away. I believe it is in Revelation that it says, to those who overcome, their name will be written in the Book of Life. This is paraphrasing, but you get the point...

We must accept His Grace, and overcome the world.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
