ok, let's look at this objectively. whether or not the one had anything to do with the other, please try to see this from another perspective so you can see how it COULD influence it.

someone schedules an interview for you. if you were unable to make it and there was a valid reason given as to why (such as a family emergency, a car accident, something of that nature) AND the reason was passed along to the interviewer, then you're right, it would have nothing to do with his flakiness.

however, if you failed to give adequate notice that you needed to reschedule, or if the reason was one that the interviewer didn't see as valid (for example, your car won't start, your dog died, you overslept), then it would likely have everything in the world to do with what you perceive as flakiness.

did he behave unprofessionally? yes, according to what you told us regarding his own tardiness and failure to give you an application. those actions are unprofessional. his failure to return your calls are not. they may be aggravating, but managers have a great deal on their plates, and you were probably one of a large number of applicants for the position. it's rare that a company will call you if you do not get the job. they only call if you DO get it. once in a great while you'll find a company that will send out a letter of rejection to the applicants who did not get the job. i think in my entire lifetime, that's happened once.

as time goes by, you'll find that when looking for a job, it's critical to apply for many, many jobs... fill out more applications DoK, schedule more interviews. if you can, try to line up three interviews per day. it will greatly increase your odds of getting a good job, as well as give you a tremendous amount of experience in how to conduct yourself during an interview. it will also give you the option of being able to pick and choose the company that you feel most comfortable with, because the person doing the interview represents the company, and first impressions are just as important for both the employer and the potential employee.

just out of curiousity, what type of position were you applying for?

OK, ARGH, I am SO frustrated!!!!!

SO here is the deal:

Ok, so I interviewed for this job that I would like and from the get go this manager I interviewed for was a total flake. He was about an hour late to the interview, forgot to gimme an application, and has not returned two messages I have left him asking for the

status of our interview.

I have had it up to here and I am SO frustrated. I dont know what to do. Am I spose to just let it go and assume that it is fate and that if its meant to be it will just happen? Or am I spose to keep taking action by calling this dope ? Or should I go even a step further, contact the company, tell them my situation and ask them if they would please grant me a fair interview with another manager?

I mean I just dont know how much I am sposed to leave it to God and how much I am sposed to make things happen and take action you know. ( And yes I have prayed about it and turned to the word but im still confused) I dont know if God is telling me to just forget about it or if I am sposed to fight for what I want...????

Opinions? HELP!!

Hi DoK,

Since I wasn't there, I obviously don't understand the circumstances of your contact with this company. But, aren't you judging this guy pretty harshly? Who knows, maybe he had a car accident on the way to work that day......or had to rush his wife to the hospital.......or........??? He may be a really nice guy having a really bad day. In either case, it might be that your attitude showed thru during the interview and affected his perception of you. Is that a possibility? ;)

If you were employed there and this man treated you unfairly, then I would say, "Go over his head". But you are just an applicant. It will make you look like a trouble maker if you go to someone else.

Is there a chance you could re-apply for another job when it opens???

I didn't catch how long it's been since the interview. If less than a month, it could be they have not made a decision yet. But, not all companies send out "rejection" letters, even though it's a nice courtesy.

My suggestion would be to send this guy a nice card thanking him for the interview and telling him you what you said about it seems like a friendly place to work and that you are definitely interested if anything else opens up.

As someone who has interviewed applicants, I can sympathize with this guy. Often I was running from a meeting back to the office for an interview, while scrambling for the appications and notes I'd made so I looked like I had had least some clue of who I was talking to.

Be humble. Blessed are the meek. ;)

Peace,

Fiosh

Well none of us were present at either interview, but based on the way you are treating us (the people you are soliciting advice from), you're offering plenty of possible reasons why any employer would reject you as an applicant.

Posted

DoK, it's clear that you really don't want help here, you just want sympathy. the fact that you are unable and unwilling to even examine how your own behaviour might or might not affect an interview indicates that you are likely not the kind of person a large company would be willing to employ. or even many small companies, for that matter. finding meaningful employment is not a crap shoot. it's a learning experience though, and you are rejecting the advice of people who have been in your shoes, and who have been in the shoes of the manager you call a dope.

failure to show up for a first interview is a huge red flag to an employer. it indicates a lack of professionalism on the applicant's part, unless an emergency situation arose and/or you had to call and reschedule at least 24 hours in advance.

as a former manager of a company who has done more than my fair share of hiring and firing over the years, i'm sensing that you neither of the above situations applied... because if you had given plenty of notice or had a legitimate excuse to reschedule, you would not be so adament about withholding that information.

words of wisdom here, if you are even slightly interested in getting ahead in life (job-wise). employers judge you long before they ever sit across the table from you.

This is a great place to turn for advice, when advice is actually wanted and appreciated. But when someone just wants attention or sympathy, it's disingenuous to present it as an appeal for advice and then subsequently disrespect everyone who takes the time to offer you a reply. Just be honest next time. If you're wanting to vent, let us know it's a vent. If you're wanting prayer, post it in prayer requests. But don't pretend you're here wanting help, ask for responses, and then verbally abuse people who are kindhearted enough to attempt to help you, falsely believing you actually wanted help.

Well I would like to hear the manager's side of the story before I could offer any advice. Sounds like an attitudinal problem to me. I would not think that a company the size of which you are talking about, would hire someone flakey as a job interviewer.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
