This man had enough logic to say "i can't tell anyone about these thoughts because they might take my children away", but he didn't have enough logic to say "whoa, I'm feeling like I might kill my children, I need to get out of here NOW" ????

That is a very good point. Though, when you get depressed enough you often lose the ability to think rationally. That's the type of thing that makes people want to commit suicide and then actually go through with it.. you know?

Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying that it was perfectly fine for him to kill his children. It's terrible. But I just think with more peace and understanding from people, this kind of thing can be prevented (or in this man's case, prevented from happening again).

The devil got him... I think he desperately needs some sort of help right now, so he can't be influenced by satan again.

I'm not trying to anger anyone here. I think I've been misunderstood because I'm the kind of person that believes that above all, God wants peace and harmony on earth. I don't think that starts with us saying "this man should be killed for what he's done".

Hun, I am not angry with you, I am simply trying to explain my position. I UNDERSTAND that people who are depressed often cannot think rationally, my issue is that HE DID think rationally when it came to those thoughts. He knew that if he told anyone he would get into trouble, so he didn't. With that kind of rationale one would suppose he could have had the same logic at the time that he murdered his daughters.

Now of course NONE of us really know what happened, only the Lord and David know...and Jesus is really the only one that can change David. I agree with you in that he should not be put to death...but what kind of life is he living now? There is no doubt that he killed his children, and essentially he is going to rot in jail whether or not he gets help...so what is really the point in having him live through that? I realize that my thoughts are ENTIRELY biased...but that's just what I think. I think the legal system is doing him greater punishment by keeping him alive through all of this. I suspect it's only a matter of time until he takes his own life anyhow.

Yeah, I understand what you're getting at, sierra.

Maybe I live in a fantasy world. In my head, everyone gets along. :noidea:

I just find the whole situation very saddening. Though, if he lives out the rest of his life in jail, at least that gives more of a chance for him to repent and accept God into his life... that would be a wonderful thing.

We are suppose to judge between right and wrong and I must say that some of the thoughts within this thread are very disturbing to me and it outrages me as well. that the children are overlooked and are no more alive. This was a case of heinous child abuse in it's wickedess form taking the lives of innocent children.

So much sympathy towards this man awee he didn't mean it he just needs help and shouldn't face the death penalty or be made to rot in jail. but this is the message your sending that it is okay to be depressed and kill because we all can sympathize and we all understand.

Well I "DON'T" understand and the man should be held accountable for the death of his own children depressed or not. Just because parents go through times of depression or even have depressive illnesses it doesn't mean they are insane and do not know what they are doing. they still know the differences between right and wrong.

And it in no wise gives the parents the right to beat the snot out of their kids abuse them in the night or kill them because of depression. I have no sympathy whatsoever for those who harm children in any form or fashion. And I find the thoughts of those within this thread who would defend those who do such highly offensive in every sense of the word.

The children are dead and nobody looks at that but are putting the value on this poor man who is depressed now a murderer in the worst kind of way that is their focus and not justice towards the dead children.

Yes I have "anger" because what this man done was not at all a "Mistake" but blantant murder out right in cold blood premeatated even as those kids did not get dead on their own.

Openly Curious

I didn't once state that it's okay to be depressed, or to kill anyone. I also didn't say that the man shouldn't be held accountable for killing his children. I just think if there was more understanding and peace in the world, these kinds of horrible events would be prevented, and the devil would have no chance at getting any of us.

I'm going to step out of this discussion now because what I am saying is being misunderstood. I don't see any point in trying to put across a point that isn't being understood, and I also don't want to cause anger and fights to erupt.

God bless. :noidea:

yeah and I'm sure it was a "mistake" when this man was aiminig for his kids and slicing away at them. and that knife just got somehow into his hands. And then we are not to "judge" this situation.

Not to be rude, but I don't think your "joke" is in good taste considering this topic.

I watched the program with great interest, as a person who has suffered depression myself. This man didn't only say that he was afraid that if he said something about his thoughts that he would have his children taken away, but he also said "I DIDN"T SEE THOSE THOUGHTS AS REAL THOUGHTS."

You see, he didn't think that he ever would do that, even though the thoughts might have passed his mind. Depression is a whole different thing than everyday life folks. When he was talking to his mom he may not even at that point had the thought cross his mind! Maybe he was trying to devert that thought with a conversation with someone he loved.

This man was not a monster, he was a great family guy with a great job and alot of very good friends.

His wife is doing the right think by staying with him. Like she said, "I will not allow 20 minutes of an otherwise perfect marriage of many years make this worse than it already is" She is trying to pick up the peices, she KNOWS her husband and loves him deeply enough to be there for him when he needs her most!

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
