I was just wondering what peoples' thoughts are on this movie/production. I'm curious.

I bought myself a copy of the DVD a couple of weeks ago, because I saw it for cheap in a store. I remembered it from my childhood (my older sister often watched it with her friends) so I grabbed it.

I absolutely love the music in this movie. However having watched it recently, I'm no longer sure how I feel about the movie as a whole. I feel they portray Jesus in the wrong way. I actually felt kind of guilty watching it - much different from when I was a child. As a child I would watch it and feel more intrigued by the story, and want to learn more about Jesus and what he did.

What are your thoughts? Any fans/critics of this movie?

I spent a great deal of time listening to this on tape and have seen the VHS video a few times. The intent of this was always to make Judas the good guy and to debunk the Jesus story. There is enough of reality in it to make it hard for Christians to complain but there are major flaws with what it presents.

That being said, I was finally able to understand what it meant when they "mocked" Jesus and some of the music does carry the story along. (Always hoped that I'd be an apostle...)

They of course had to fall into the Mary M. as prostitute falsehood because it hit a chord (boo, hiss, pun) at that time.

I would no longer recommend it except as a study group but I am not sorry that I did use this tape. it could really lead into false teaching very quickly.

I remember when the movie initially premiered. At the time the :"religious": right came out in arms against it for many reasons. The theology s bad, it was blasphemy, no christian should support it..and certainly all christians should stop pumping money into Hollywood.

Just recently, my wife asked me to dvr the movie so that i could explain the uproar to her. We barely got into 5 min of the movie and there were problems. Sadly, the music and lyrics are not enough to save this particular piece of garbage.

I will admit that there is a "remote possibility" someone could find Jesus on the basis of the movie. By the same token it confirms many of the beliefs of atheists and nonbelievers related to the Gospel accounts.

What i said at the beginning of this post sounded like a slam on the "religious right." Having seen the movie, i totally agree with their contention.

I enjoyed Jesus Christ Superstar a great deal. Maybe even more as a Christian then from before. I love some of the musical/cinematic potrayals of my LORD and SAVIOR. Jesus Christ Superstar, along with G-dspell, did bring me closer to the LORD on my journey to salvation.

It's just a piece of Theater not much more than that.

I find it joyouly ironic that the Mark Hellinger Theater in New York City where Superstar premiered. That same theater is now Times Square Church. How about that?

I remember watching that movie when it was out, years ago, and it made me very uncomfortable and I felt dirty watching it, knowing Jesus personally, and seeing how He was misrepresented. I felt some of the elements of the portrayal of the gospel were diluted and made "palatable" by society. Not a good movie, or message. It wasn't Jesus.

I hated it. I am one who lived through that time period so I saw it first hand. It is not biblical. It is an insult to Jesus Christ as are many other movies with his name including "The Passion of the Christ"

Why do you say "The Passion of the Christ" is an insult?

My thoughts on the movie.

Because of this movie, stitchy wanted to learn more about Christ.

darski wanted to be an apostle.

I was just a child when I saw it and had no idea who Christ was. Perhaps it planted a seed that didn't take root until many years later. The two people mentioned are believers, as am I....is this movie connected with that? I don't know.

If I were to watch it now, I believe I would see it in a whole new light and more then likely condemn it. I saw The Passion and knew it was lie before I even watched it.

Is Jesus Christ Superstar any good? To a believer.... probably not.....but to someone who doesn't know Christ....maybe.

Personally, I wouldn't have much to do with it.

It came about during the "Jesus is cool, Dude" movement. To me, it strips the proper reverence we need to show our Lord and Savior.

Just my opinion, though. Take from the movie what you can and keep your focus on His Holiness.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
