I'm guessing the date for that work is based on the date of the rock it was written on.

So as soon as the rock was formed, someone wrote on it? Amazing!

Same sarcastic tone I take with people who act like they worship the Bible.

That's silly. I just thought that statement was funny!

I worship the Lord Jesus Christ. God's Word is the be-all and end-all.

Are you a believer, CD?

See, in my mind, Jesus Christ is the Be-all and end-all, and the Bible is the word of God put together by fallible, erring men.

Back to Utnapishtim and Noah...

From as far as I can see, Noah wasn't a king or a priest, and I think what bothers me most about this paragraph is the statement "He shows many similitaries with the much more recent biblical Noah"

The story of Noah, as we know it in the Bible, was not compiled until around the Babylonian exile (587 BC). Hence it came into existence more recently than the Epic of Gilgamesh. As mentioned earlier, per the Documentary hypothesis (aka JEPD theory), the current flood story is a combination of two earlier stories about the flood (This might be of interest).

Considering that the world itself is only about 7-9 thousand years old, I'm having some small issues with this story. According to Wikipedia (not very reliable lol ) the earliest version of the flood myth preserved fragmentarily is in the Sumerian language, dating to ca. 2600 BC,"... does this mean that that is when it was first written down, does that mean that it's been carried by mouth for so long etc?

I believe the Epic of Gilgamesh was found written in stone so I'm guessing the date for that work is based on the date of the rock it was written on.

Well, I have a problem with saying the earth is only 7-9 thousand years old...

And second, even conservative "Bible is always inerrant" believers think that the flood HAPPENED in 2600 B.C., but did not get written down until Moses.

Most Biblical scholars these days are pretty confident in saying that Moses did not write the five books attributed to him, because Moses contradicts himself and repeats himself too much, most especially in Genesis.

I am VERY GLAD that Tubal Cain brings up the WELL RESEARCHED, AND VERY SCHOLARLY JEPD theory here...especially considering the story of the flood has several inconsistencies and even more repititions. He also confirms what I said earlier about the time when these were compiled.

I would like someone who has researched...and wikipedia does not count...whether or not the inculturation of many flood stories brought about the story of Noah...considering EVERY religion has a flood story, some of which PRECEDED the story of Noah.

Yeah, again, messed up.. I read "BC" and thought 'AD"....

I think most Biblical Scholars are pretty confident that Moses DID write the first books attributed to him, but if not, who do these biblical scholars say wrote them?

I am also very glad that Tubal brought up a different point and was actually able to give some information through reserach! Way to go! Awesome!!!

The story of the flood in the bible is consistent, but I'm more than willing to listen to where you say there are inconsitencies, and respect your opinions....

And finally.. I didn't just use wikipedia lol All the other ones were from *other* sites that I didnt' liste because they woudl mostly be deleted, but I stated where I used Wikipedia, and even stated that it was unreliable :24: But thankyou for the honorable mention

It is very interseting that so many religions have a version of the flood story, which is very very interseting :24: They just all seem to have some varying aspects of it. Taking it from the point of view that the Bible is perfect and inerrant (otherwise God would be liar)... then this story contridicts the story of the flood from the Bible...

I can't recall who said it off the top of my said, but the one who said that in order for them to be the same, one or both woudl have to have changes made to it, because obviously, between teh two, there are inconsistencies

Hope this helps

Again, looking for anyone who has fully researched these stories, using more than just the Bible. Anyone, anyone?

WHY?

Unless you are searching for reasons to turn The Factual Word of God into a myth, why would you ask anyone you cared about to read such trash?

I've read their story and it reads totally false!

If you want to know The Truth, you must first surrender to The Truth.

The Root Question

What think ye of Christ?

Matthew 22:42

The Answer

But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

Matthew 14:30-33

The Offer

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:16

Counteroffer

And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

The Angels Sing!

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Ephesians 2:8-9

To be honest with you, you first must know Jesus before you can see The Truth in The Holy Bible.

After reading unbeliever's posts on Christian boards for a year or so, I have also come to the strong conclustion that you first must know Jesus before you can even see The Truth under your very noise about the Creation and about the Biblical Flood.

Blinded

But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:

That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?

Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,

He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

John 12;37-49

Let Me Feel The Love

For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

John 12:43

The unbeliever twists his or hers views even of the physical world to fit into a Godless Bible-less mindset.

Now they go forth from hearts of hate and attempt to enlist governments to impost their hatred of The Truth upon their neighbors and especially upon all the children!

My shipmates and I went face-to-face with the guns of this evil during the "cold" war.

It is apparent to this old sailor boy that we did not win!

We just bought a little time for The Gospel to go forth from The USA.

Hallelujah!

The truth of the Biblical flood screams out from The Geological record but foolish men cloud the clear physicial evidence with fables while mocking God's Word and Calvary and The Blood shed for the redemption of sins.

Too Sad.

I forgive them their blind mockery.

I pray for their salvation.

But still

Way..... Too Sad.

What a waste of the gift of life,

Hating The Very One who loved to the uttermost and who continues to offer salvation to the uttermost if one could just say.....

"Yes Lord and Amen."

But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;

Hebrews 7:24-26

Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!

Yeshua! Yeshua! Yeshua!

Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna!

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:

The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:

The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them.

Numbers 9:24-27

Love, Joe

Thanks Joe! That helped me learn A LOT about Noah and Utnapishtim!

All I was doing was asking for others to do some research. The Bible is a good book, but there are many other good books.

You know, I didn't have any problems with you asking this question, thought it was kinda interesting. I didn't have a problem with you asking others to just answer your questions and leave out all of the other stuff. But your statement above, is totally out of line, All you were asking was for others to do some research, so you really weren't interested in the story itself, but just to get others to study it and then give you their opinions. Why? And while we're at it, don't insult Joe!

Well if you want exte-biblical info, then why ask on a christian web site when the bible is our sole sourse of knowledge about the flood. If you want myths, then go to a mythology web site...................try google.

Hey Caritate,

I think what Joe is saying, is not to tear you down or put you down, but rather, try and point out that the only thing we can rely on 100% for truth is God's Word.. this is known becuase promised he would preserve his word... You are absolutely right that there are many other "good books", but even English classes teach that the Bible is the greatest peice of literature.. as said by men who aren't even Christians.

Caritate, what is your view on this subject? Do you believe the two are the same, that this "myth" is the truth and the bible is not factual becuase of "human error"? I am just curious as to your opinion on this very matter, but as you excet the respect of those on here to respect your opinion, please respect the opinions of others to on here, though you may agree  I may be out of line in saying this, and if you're just stating your opinion, then great :) but please just keep that in mind  Some do'nt know about this subject, some do not wish to know, adn some don't have the time to do a whoel in depth study on it at this time... so many give what they know to be truth, something they know *for sure* .. that the bible is the pure Word of God.

With this in mind, since I already attempted to asnwer your question, .. if you do not mind me asknig out of curiosity, why do you want to know our opinions of this? Are you searching for information on the subject because you are not sure what is "the truth"? Are you simply putting out a question to see where it goes (always fun!)? Do you have a firm belief in this already and refuse to change that belief no matter what anybody else says? What is the purpose of this thread, if you don't mind me asking *you* a question or two

The Bible is a good book, but there are many other good books.

The bible is God inspired scripture. What you are seeking isnt God inspired, but merely the words of man. I hope you dont think the other texts have equal weight with scripture.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
