If you truly want to repent of your sins, be filled with the Holy Spirit, and become part of God's family, you will find a way to overcome these minor obstacles. :emot-questioned:

May God bless your big day!

Fiosh

:o

woah there, baptism has nothing to do with repentance nor does the lack of it prevent one from being saved and a child of God, and the HS enters a new christian the second he recieves christ, not at baptism.

John 3:5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God".

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

lol yeah, I'm with Vicki :o How about we keep this as a thread helping out glory who is tryign to figure out what to wear at her baptism, and various preperations that she will want/need to make :o

That was a great response about talking to your pastor considering that he does this so very often!!!!! Honestly? For mine? I had my sunday clothes, and at the end of service, went to the bathroom to change into somehting that wasn't my good clothes (I think it was like a gown or something I had *shrug*) and then the blue thing they gave me to put on top lol It was relaly thick heavy stuff that didn't show through at all, and that is wht i got baptized in. Went back to the bathroom afterwards where I had my sunday clothes, hairbrush, etc :o Glory, lol water proof mascara :24: What a wonderful idea Giaour!!! lol

If you have to wear anything, just don't wear a see-through white top and you'll be fine :24: Definitly talk to pastor, and wearing a swim suit seems like an amazing idea too! *can't think of anything to add*

oh wait.. yes.. one more thing....

YAY!!!!!!!!!! CONGRADULATIONS!!!!!! YOU"RE GETTING BAPTIZED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know isn't salvation but it's still a wonderful and joyous occasion!!! PRAISE THE LORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love ya sis :taped:

Apparently there is a debate going on. I choose to ignore it.

Congratulations on deciding to be baptised. I think you should just wear clothes that will not be see-through (dark shirts work I think, as a guy I've never had to worry about this too much). And don't worry about make-up/mascara/whatever, the face God gave you looks great, I promise.

I'm sure nobody will attack you for not being dressed up to the max on your baptism day, it's between you and the Lord.

God Bless,

Keilan

Okay, I hope this is the right forum for this. It didn't seem to fit anywhere else.

I want to be baptised at my church. No problem, huh? Well, yes, problem! I live in Texas, I attend a real western church and they baptise people in a horse trough! Not a used one and it's indoors but still..........they totally immerse people in that thing! Being a woman, I don't see myself being dunked in my good clothes and hair and makeup going under! Being immersed in some clothing results in a 'see through' effect that is best left to the imagination; especially if you're wearing lightweight women's clothing.

Should I...

1. Find another church just for baptism?

2. Wear a scuba suit and no make up to church for the baptism?

3. Forget about baptism altogether?

or

4. Just do it and never mind that I have to sit through the rest of the service soaking wet with mascara running down my cheeks?

Why does this have to be so HARD???? ;)

Wow, I can whine as well as my two year old grandson!

Opinions, please? My family thinks I'm a big baby.

It is wonderful that you would consinder following the Lord's leading in baptism, to identify yourself with the local church and with the Body of Christ. However, in my honest opinion, if these things are worries that would keep you from baptism with the church you attend, I do not think you are ready for baptism.

Shalom,

WOW, what an unfair post!

I totally disagree with this conclusion and I am shocked at it as well.

Having just gone through a baptism myself at the River Jordan in Israel with our church group, the logistics of the baptism were on all our minds and our pastor knew that it was a natural, normal thing to ask how this would be done and he let us all know about all the preparations and HOW we were to be baptized, how it would work, what we would wear etc. so that we could leave those concerns behind and concentrate on the spiritual act of being baptized.

Glory, again, there is nothing wrong with being concerned about these things and I believe if you talk to your pastoral staff you will find that they have everything in place to take care of these issues, because MOST if not ALL people do ask about them and are concerned about them before baptism.

Thanks for the support, vicklynn. I have gotten over the shudders now and I'm just going to go for it. I want to more than I want to look human (anyone who has ever seen me without makeup and with wet hair is still traumatized!) I guess I was taken aback because when my daughter was baptised two years ago she wore a blue business suit and full make up. Of course, she's a Presbyterian and I belong to the Church of Christ.

I still would be give anything to be baptised in the River Jordan, as you were. You are truly blessed! :whistling:

A business suit?! Wow...I was baptized in my gym shorts, gym shirt, and a baptismal robe over top.

Some things you might want to consider if you're set on wearing makeup (but really I don't think you should worry about putting it on: you'll be up at the front far enough away from everyone else that they won't be able to tell anyway):

- WATERPROOF MASCARA. I promise you, it works like magic. Wore it when I got baptized, when I graduated, and on my wedding day. Never a smudge.

- Waterproof eyeliner. Yup, they have that too...though with waterproof mascara I'd say just forego it. Still...if you REALLY want to wear eyeliner, ask the person at the makeup counter which one they'd recommend.

- Cream foundation will probably stay on best.

- "Kissable" lipstick

Anyway, other than that, just use common sense. Wear dark colours, don't wear silk or anything else that will watermark, wear a tank top underneath your shirt, just in case...and bring extra clothes, a blow dryer, and your makeup for touchups afterwards. Also bring contact lens solution, if you wear contacts, in case you accidentally get water in your eyes.

Oh...and it's okay to plug your nose.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
