I think it's the most widely used version out there but I prefer the NKJ version. I also have a Amplified which I like but it can get a little wordy.

That reminds of the time we had a guy read a Scripture out loud in Bible study and he used the Amplified. It took him FOREVER to get through a handful of verses! I want to shout, "Skip the words in the brackets!" That's a great Bible to use for quick study if you don't know the original languages because it gives alternate translations for various words and phrases.

Is the King James Version of the Bible easy for you to read in the year 2007?

Will it continue to be used? Is it fading out of the English language or is it basically already gone? The local Church I go to still uses KJV cited hymns (sp) but not Bibles. Most use the NIV.

Thoughts?

Yes it is easy for me to understand. Yes it will continue to be used for reasons I cannot fathom. It is archaic and generally considered by those who know the original languages to be an inferior work. I am far more versed in NT Greek than OT Hebrew, although I can find my way around the Hebrew Scriptures eventually. The KVJ NT, while being a stalwart and true translation of the original (and paraphrase of earlier translations) is not nearly as accurate as, say, the NIV or RSV. Those who tell you otherwise are offering opinions based on their preferences.

Dear brother it is all Greek to me, I struggle with English. This site www.biblediscernment.com makes a pretty good case of the AV being the REAL WORD of God.

That website is C---P.

Peter is the rock on which the church will be built.

Well, then read the Greek again... The word for "rock" was not the Greek for "rock", but rather the Greek for a stone from a bigger rock--a chip! Jesus was referring to Peter as a major building block..not the foundation. Jesus is the Rock.

It was "petros"...not "petra". Jesus is Petra.

We are all "living stones," or "petroi"...just like Simon Peter!

FA is correct! Jesus IS the Rock that the church is built upon. The cornerstone/foundation of our faith.

Shalom Marnie,

I am not well-versed in Biblical Hebrew, but I have a couple of interlinear bibles. Do you use them and if so, do you have a favorite?

I like the Hebrew / NIV.

I can't find a Hebrew one, just Greek???? Where did you get yours?

I have a 4 volume interlinear that is all of the bible, new and old testament. I got it from Sovereign Grace Publishing.

Here is one online. http://www.scripture4all.org/

Actually, I thought Peter's confession was the rock. Jesus established the Church and is the Chief cornerstone, but it was built upon the foundation of the apostles and the prophets according to Paul in Epheisans 2:20. Perhaps I misread it.

i grew up on the kjv and have attended churches that viewed you as if you were satans' right arm if you used anything else. personally i doubt that Jesus ever spoke in olde english, so why do well meaning christians demand we do so. i have heard all of the arguments about translations (english is english) and about missing verses. my wife and i own numerous translations and several study bibles, and computer bible programs and historical records such as Josephus, and i have yet to have anyone show me a verse from the old kjv, that is not in the nkjv, that would change anything.

so as for myself, i use the nkjv, i recommend it and believe in it without any hesitation. i assure you the holy spirit can and does lead and teach in it every bit as much and as well as he does any other translation. as for the chart that places people that read certain versions on lower tables of intelligence, i would have to wonder what issues or agenda was behind such alleged research and compilation of statistics, as to produce such a finding. well i guess i will have to repeat all of the grades and classes i have passed since the 7th grade, apparently they were all bogus. that will be hard for an old man such as myself.

above all i have every faith that God is capable of protecting and growing his word and keeping it pure. (before anyone even goes there, i am not including the bibles written by false religions and cults in this description as they are not the word of God to start with.)

Actually, the chart refers to the translation, not the intelligence of the person reading it. For example, the NIV was written so that a person with an 8th grade reading level can understand it. It does not mean in any the Word was dumbed down or those who prefer the NIV are somehow lacking in intelligence.

I think the best translation simply depends on the purpose.

I read through the NIV and when I started with the KJV it just seemed to speak to me. It is definatly my translation of choice. That being said, I think some people are best with the NIV and I think they should read it! I don't get picky until you get onto the topic of paraphrases like The Message. I do not like these at all, I think they are suitable for a child's bedtime story and nothing more.

God Bless,

Keilan

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
