The OT shows us how life is without the Holy Spirit dwelling in us. (Among, many, many other things) That came with the New Testament.

You can not love God and your neighbor and kill, steal etc. In all you do, do it to the glory of God. That includes a lot more than the OT rules and regulations, in ALL means, all of your time, money, resources, goes to the glory of God, it is a much higher standard than the old. It requires much more of us, and we can only heed this calling by the power of Jesus.

The Old Covenant between Abraham God and Abraham's 'seed' (Jesus Christ) has been completely fulfilled and replaced by the New Covenant established by Christ's broken Body and shed Blood.

And no believer in Christ is obligated to the Old Covenant or to the Law of Moses.

This was the unanimous consensus of all the Jewish Apostles that convened in Jerusalem to answer the Gentile question. (Acts 15)

Paul, in Romans, spoke even to Jews who accepted Christ, that the Old Covenant and even the Law was but a 'schoolmaster' until the school student could become a full adult and no longer need such teachers.

Paul's point is, that although the Old Testament and Law of Moses had its place in History, since Christ came, it no longer applies.

Just as you have outgrown your 2nd grade reading primer, and it no longer applies...it does not mean that the 2nd grade primer NEVER applied....It did at one time...when that was the only thing you could understand. And hopefully it means, that the 2nd grade principles learned are still somehow found in your current reading abilities....

In that regard, then, no Christian, Jewish or Gentile, in under the Old Covenant nor obligated to it.

No Christian, Jewish or Gentile, is under the Law of Moses.

That the Law of Moses continues to exist, is a witness against unbelieving jews to the futility of trying to observe it, and a testimony against them that they need a Savior in Jesus, their Messiah.

How do you explain this passage in the Bible then: Matthew 5:17, "Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfil them.

Yeshua states He didn't come to abolish the OT law or the Prophets.

I believe the OT holds a lot of truths and ideas that are good for the Christian of today.

I am going to stick with both books.

I don't think many of the OT laws apply. If you really do think they still apply, read Leviticus and then tell me which ones you follow.

Do you offer animal and grain sacrfices? There are sacrifices for many sins and very very specific instruction on how to prepare the sacrifices.

Do you eat pork? How about shrimp, crab legs? Both are no-nos.

Do you offer sacrifices after childbirth? Do you bring your infections before a priest? Do you bring your clothing with mildew to your priest? If you find mildew in your house, do you ask your priest to examine it? (or do you just rebelliously grab a can of lysol)? :t2:

Are you sure the chicken you eat is killed in a clay pot?

Do you only eat kosher meat?

When was the last time you killed a medium in your neighbourhood?

There are many, many ot laws that simply don't apply any more, imo. If you're really of the opinion that they do, then you've really got your work cut out for you. I'm thankful to be free from these kinds of laws.

Oh, and yes, no tattoos (who's really picking and choosing)

My opinion is that if it's mentioned in the New Testament then it's still valid. JC clearly stated to obey the commandments. Homosexuality is still considered a sin. Tithing is certainly mentioned in the NT.

The old testament is certainly valid, for prophesies, as others have mentioned, and for the many valuable lessons taught! We see how God has been with mankind from the beginning throughout history and how God works in the lives of his people.

Do you still think the following laws apply for today?

No eating pork, shrimp, crab legs?

Bring your infections before a priest to examine? Asking your priest to examine mildew in your house or on your clothes?

Making sure the fowl you eat is killed in a clay pot?

Not eating anything that isn't kosher?

If there's a medium in your neighbourhood, putting him/her to death?

Arstylady....

It is my understanding that if an issue was mentioned in the NT it is for our better understanding of how it should be. If it was not mentioned in the NT, that means it is still in affect today.

As for your comment about pork, shrimp, etc....yes, it does mention something about that....

BUT. Do you pray over your food before you eat it? How can you call cursed what Jesus Christ calls blessed. If you pray over your food and ask the Lord to bless it, it is blessed.

Jesus Christ did not come to destroy the Law and the Prophets....He came to fufill it...He was the bridge. If you're saying that we're not under ANY OT stuff, you are basically saying it's done away with....destroyed. How can that be if He said He didn't come to destroy the LAW and the PROPHETS? If it's not mentioned in the NT...or explained better for our understanding in the OT....then why wouldn't it still be in affect today?

Just my two-cents.

this is a hodgepodge of cultural christianity.

No where does God tell us to bless our food.

This practise comes from an interpretation in judaism whereby we give thanks to the Lord AFTER we are filled. It is easier to give thanks when we are needy.

But the "blessing" is for the Lord who gives the food....not the food itself.

This is such an ancient prayer that I can tell you what Yeshua said after the Last Passover meal where King James just mentions He said a blessing.

"Baruch atah Adonai Elohenu Melech ha olam ha motzi lechem mein ha aretz"

Blessed are You, O Lord our God...King of the universe...who brings forth bread from the earth

Yeshua is the Living Bread brought up from the earth.

I mentioned the moral laws in the OT, not specific ceremonial laws. And many of these were modified in the NT. For example all food is now considered good, that is mentioned somewhere in the epistles. No, we dont put mediums ot death, but we should not consult one, and speak out against this. The priests and infections are also not part of the moral law. Read the old laws and see what the moral implications are, and see where they've been addressed in the NT. Most importantly, follow the convictions given to you by the Holy Spirit, that is God letting you know where you should focus in your life.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
