Hippo,

Is there something about the Methodist doctrine that you found to be an improvement over your old church?

Hippo,

Yes. The Methodist have an open table, meaning that any one can participate in communion. I do not know all of their doctrines, but the Methodist do seem to be more open and inviting. "Open hearts, open minds, open doors"

Also they believe in all of the ways of baptism, emersion, sprinkling and I think that it is called pouring. They allow you to choose...

The thing that I mainly dislike about the Methodist church I attend is that it is very traditional. It is primarily older women, and no offense, but much of the older generation does not like change...so it stays the same alot.

What are some more "doctrines", that you might be refurring to? I haven't been Methodist, or rather in the church long, but I can find out.

(pssst**I believe that Jesus Christ was Crucified for my sins, he rose on the 3rd day, and has cleasned me from my sin so that I can fellowship with God. I believe He has me at that church at this time for a reason....so I am just following His direction. Who knows what or where I will be in the future.)

God bless you

Beth

I have seen denominations that were " open minded "

some of them even have allowed homosexuals to be ordained as ministers into their churches...... to know that they are, they have openly admitted that they are and that they was practicing....

i have also seen the open door policy allow for swindeling of the church treasury, and such... some people also use the "CHURCHES" as a way to try and cover their illegal activities, such as drugs, prostitution, child molestation, among other crimes.

no we are not perfect, but we also have to search the spirit of each person to know which it is they are harboring..... ( discernment of the spirits ).....

there are actually very few church denominations that have a closed membership communion table ( meaning only those that are paperwork members may partake)

others have many man made rules as to who and how and when some one may partake......

The Lord told us that we are to do this in rememberance of Him.... i dont think it said that if you are a baptist, to do it in rememberance of Him, or if you are a pentacostle to do it in rememberance of Him.......He did not say any denomination, he told us to DO THIS IN REMEMBERANCE OF HIM....

what does that mean????

that means that if you are a believer, and you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, then you are to partake..... you are to do this in rememberance of Jesus....

something I am not sure about, is why a Bible Believing People would bow down and allow satan to insert rules that go against the Bible, or make allowances for those that are suppose to be our leaders???? if you have a thief as your leader, you will have some one you can not trust to handle the funds, if you have an adulterer as your leader, then you can not trust this person with others in a private setting..... if you have a homosexual as your leader, then you will have this doctrine being taught ( have to be more tolorate of others ).....

what a person is will show up.... like a big ugly monster.... when will they start teaching their life style??? who knows, but if they have not repented of it, then it is still in them....

Pentance is being able to buy your way out ( with deeds or money, a way of taking care of yourself ) this also allows a person room to do the same deed again cause they can bail them selves out......

Repentance is that of turning away from the old ways, knowing that you can not bail yourself out, knowing that we are to keep ourselves clean.....

if a person boastes of their sins, they have not repented, confessing them and repending from them to turn away from them is what is needed.... not bragging.

Catholics do not allow non-Catholics to participate in the Eucharist. I was raised RC.

Penance is basically a way of making restitution for one's sins by saying a series of prayers in lieu of their confessed sins. For instance, if you took a cookie out of momma's cookie jar when you were told not to, then you'd be told to go and say 2 Our Father's and 3 Hail Marys...

That's putting it simply. It's saying prayers in restitution for sin...in other words, granting a way of making restitution - a consequence - for having done wrong.

I'm not sure how saying prayers would be considered restitution, myself. A person can mumble a few prayers and go right back to the same behavior. It does't change the human heart at all...so it seems ineffective.

In the Old Testament, if you stole your neighbor's ox, then you'd have to replace the ox plus give him 5 of your oxen as well...Now THAT'S real consequences.

Consequences have to be severe enough to keep you from repeating the act again.

Now that we are no longer under the Law of Moses but under the NEW covenant, our hearts should be governed by the Holy Spirit and we should naturally gravitate toward doing right.

I do believe that when we do wrongly ....the Father disciplines those He loves and there are always consequences for our actions.

Sometimes we can ask God to forgive us and not to cause us to suffer the consequences of our behavior...I think sometimes God will relent and sometimes not.

There's been times in the bible where a prophet would beg God to not visit plagues or punishments upon the Children of Israel and would beg God's patience and mercy and God said He would refrain from punishing them...for now. But if they didn't change, look out.

God gave Ninevah a warning to repent; He threatened to destroy the city. Well, it was clear that once they received the warning, they took heed and repented and God chose not to visit them with judgement.

If we humble ourselves and beg God's mercy, who knows...He may choose to be patient with us. On the other hand, if we continue in sin, God disciplines those He loves.

God's hand of discipline can be pretty tough. Many times people just don't comprehend that God is a just God as well as He is loving and merciful.

If your son or daughter is caught stealing candy from the store, would you punish them for doing wrong or would you let it slide?

Discipline means God loves us. If God doesn't discipline us, then we know we've got problems. A caring parent always disciplines his/her child for their own good.

I agree completely...as a parent I sometimes have to do the hard thing and discipline my son to keep him from making even worse mistakes and harming either himself or other people.

I don't know how many times my son and I have had the " you don't love me." and "Yes, I do that's why..." conversation, but it has happened more than a few.

As for the original topic...I attend Calvary Baptist Church here in IN.

Pastor Grant follows the purpose driven church guidlines.

Peace be and love.

God Bless.

Kevs' too cool, isn't he? Kev...great to have you on board...really. And you speak for all of us moms and dads..

People say, "Oh, God doesn't want us to suffer"...but ya know, it's when I'm suffering I'm actually getting closer to God many times...it wakes me up out of a stupor and gets me moving...

Anyway, great post, Kev...

I don't know.

I just hope you had some reason other than "I didn't like the color of the carpet". People change churches for a variety of reasons, some silly and some substantial. Just trying to learn from your experience.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Daniel: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 3

      Shalom everyone,

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
