I ALSO KNOW GOD IS THE SAME TODAY AND YESTERDAY AND TOMORROW,, BUT FOR ME ALL I KNOW IS THAT I PRAYED AND ASKED GOD FOR ALL HE HAD FOR ME THAT WAS TRULY OF HIM, AND I WAS PRAYING ON DAY AND I FELT TONGUES COME ... I JUST STARTED PRAYING IN TONGUES.. THAT IS WHAT I CALL MY PRAYER LANGUAGE ..... TONGUES THAT ARE SPOKEN OUT LOUD IN CHURCH IS TO BE INTERPRETED TO EDIFY THE CHURCH... AND I HAVE SEEN THIS HAPPEN ALSO.. AND WHEN IT DOES THE WHOLE CHURCH IS QUITE AND THEN WE HEAR THE INTERPRETION. AND I DO BELIEVE THAT IT IS A SPECIAL PRAYER LANGUAGE BETWEEN ME AND GOD EVEN THOUGH I DONT KNOW WHAT I AM PRAYING BUT I KNOW THE HOLY SPIRIT DOES AND THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS.... I HAVE HEARD ALL THE DEBATES OVER THIS AND I CAN SEE THE POINTS THAT ARE BEING MADE ... JUST DONT AGREE.. AND I DONT PRAY IN TONGUES ALL THE TIME AND I DONT KNOW WHEN I WILL IT JUST HAPPENS... AND AS I SAID FOR ME I KNOW I WOULD OR COULD NOT DO THIS ON MY OWN, I DO NOT WANT SOMETHING THAT IS NOT OF GOD AND I KNOW THAT THIS IS.. AND I DONT THINK IT MAKES ME BETTER THAN SOMEONE ELSE OR THAT U HAVE TO SPEAK IN TONGUES TO BE SAVED OR FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT OF GOD.. AND I THANK GOD FOR ALL THAT HE HAS GIVEN ME ... SISTER VICKI

Well Vicki,

I dont think theres too much to disagree on. While there may have been many "roads" so to speak, I think we are all on agreement on the same thing; tongues is not the mandate or prerequisite to being saved. It is merely ONE sign to know the holy spirit has been endowed upon an individual. And I really love your testimony about how you asked god for your prayer language, it is very uplifting.

Tongues was a sign for the unbelieving Jew.

I dont expect for many to get it. I also dont expect for many to research it or crack their bibles open. I have told this to Cobalt yet he has passed it up.

When Paul says 1Cor 14:21

In the law it is written:

With men of other tongues and other lips

I will speak to this people;

And yet, for all that, they will not hear Me

He is quoting the Old Testament. Isaiah 28:11

read v14 in Isaiah 28. The writer says "14 Therefore hear the word of the LORD, you scornful men,

Who rule this people who are in Jerusalem."

The whole section is talking about the Jews.

which now opens this scrip[ture a little more:

1 Corinthians 14:22

Tongues, then, are a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers (unbelieving Jews);

Christ came to offer salvation to the Jews and continued.

seems like personal experience usually over-powers scripture.

When you say this was for a sign for the jewish people, when did they become extect? I see the heartache over in Isreal today.

Act 10:44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

Act 10:45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Act 10:46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

Act 10:47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

Act 11:15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

Act 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

Act 11:17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?[/]

Act 11:18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

Isa 28:11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.

Isa 28:12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

He is still the same never changing, if he changed this gift after giving it, how then, can I count on salvation.........will he change that too....

If tongues are only for a witness for the jew, then this is still in effect today. They still don't recognize the Messiah.....why then would he take away this witnessing tool?

What a loving a patient Father we have....longsuffering....not willing that any should parish.

THERE IS MUCH LOVE IN CHRIST...LET US ALL PRAY TO HAVE A HEART LIKE HIS.....NOT WHAT GIFT WE CAN GET.

well....lets pretend I agree with you. Let's pretend you agree with me.

Then why is this gift not being used to bring a sign to the Jews?

I can guarantee you that 999 times out of 1000 that it's non-jews "talking" to non-Jews.

by the way, the Acts that youre posting (i.e. Act 10:44 etc) are Jews.

Acts 2: v9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome etc.

confirms it.

thank you for helping my point

Yo Ex,

Thanks for making this excellent point, seriously, it is a irrefutable one as far a I can see. Praise the Lord! Next I suspect you will be extolling the virtues of being filled with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Yes?

You are so close. Don't turn back now.

I also heard of a church where thay went to another room to pray in tongues, as not to disturb the service. A man went there didn't believe in tongues, ask why was people going into the back room and if it was for anyone to enter. He was told it was were people went to pray, undissturbed, and yes anyone could enter. So he entered, as soon as he did a woman stood up faced him, spoke in this mans native language,(NO ONE KNEW HIM, AND HE KEW NO ONE THERE) . This woman told him things about himself that no one but him knew of things he'd done(GOD SEES EVERY THING THOUGH) . He spoke to her in his native language when she finished, he wanted to know how she knew these things, she didn't understand a word he spoke. When he relized this he graabed her by the are pulled her to the front of the chuch, and told everyone of this. He was also an unsaved man, and at that time gave his life to Christ. He wrote the book --When women speak in tongues-- , his story is in there

Aren't the jewish people scatered all over the world right now? You believe in JESUS, so do I, why then do you and I need to see how he is working HIS conviction of salvation in someone else's life? Isn't it just wonderful that HE is?

As PETER SAID "WHO WAS I, THAT I COULD WITHSTAND GOD?" He is the one in control.

Isa 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.

Isa 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

He will do what HE wants, we either get in line with him, or the stone that the builders rejected will chrush us.

THERE IS MUCH LOVE IN CHRIST---LET US PRAY TO HAVE A HEART LIKE HIS--LONGSUFFERING--NOT WILLING THAT ANY SHOULD PARISH

Greg,

It's sad that a lot of people get hung up on tongues. But I do very much appreciate what Paul said, "Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy." 1 Cor.14.1. Earlier, I had mentioned how that, from experiece, I've found that praying in tongues seems to serve like a pony engine. On heavy equipment, a small engine is used to start the bigger engine. Even cars require a starter, a small electric engine, to turn over the main engine. Tongues often serves this purpose in my life. Praying in the Spirit helps to tune me in to the Spirit so that I can hear the Spirit and prophecy, or share a word of knowledge, word of wisdom, discern spirits, etc. It serves like a starter engine. It's possible that this is what Paul meant when he said that, "He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself." (14.4). A person that speaks in a tongue, speaks to the Lord in worship and prayer, and builds himself up in faith and courage to really step out in faith and prophecy. If that is so, then that also explains why Paul said, "I thank God that I speak in tongues more than you all" (14.18). And of course, he also says that, "I would like everyone of you to speak in tongues." (14.5). So, in following the way of love, we should eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy. And to spiritually build one's self up enough to prophecy, it's helpful, very helpful to pray in the spirit (speak in tongues).

Blessings,

Sherman

Greg.

what does it mean to me?

20But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

21Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

the writer says what it means. i dont even have to try to interpret.

its not about tongues and going around showing sign and miracles with the Holy Spirit.

It means in constant fellowship with God aka filled with the Spirit.

"in the Holy Ghost" is where the issue may be.

do you study with a companion bible of do you have a Strong's?

"in" means ek.

you can look that word up and the picture should be painted clearer.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
