Hi everyone,

I have a question. I received a God's Word Bible for Christmas and have been reading it every day. I had a King James Version for years that I just never got into reading...it is SO hard to understand with all the "Thou's" and "Thee's" if you know what I mean.

Anyway, I keep going back to Matthew 6:5 where he talks about the Lord's Prayer and how to pray. I have learned alot from just that little section, but I decided to look in th KJV to compare and it is different! Not by much, but the prayer is different. If needed, just ask and I can type both here to show the differences.

I know that some things will of course be lost in translation, but I am hoping it is ok to read the God's Word Bible because that is the one I am drawn to.

Please give me some guidance!!!

I think that the purest form for translation is the King James Version(KJV), BUT, if you don't understand it, it doesn't do you much good. I would recommend the New King James Version OR a side by side translation Bible. I am leary of the newer translations, due to the vast differences in the translation. I read NIV and NASV, in the evenings but for in-depth study I always recommend the KJV.

Just as an example of how clearly different they are and how clarity can be lost:

NIV

Revelation 22:14 "Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.

KJV/NKJV

Revelation 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

VAST DIFFERENCE

One is very abstract in presentation. The other very precise and clear.

I always recommend the KJV, the reason being most other versions say that one is being saved rather than one is saved. To me this sounds too close to works=salvation instead of savation then works. It is a bit early for me right now and I have to get my daughter to school but I will come back a post the scripture I am talking about later.

The KJV get easier to read the more one reads it IMO.

My favorite translation? King James. But I now use the New King James.

There are translations, and transliterations, and interpretations, and on and on. The truth is, I would love to be able to read and understand the Bible in it's original languages! That's not going to happen for a while though!!

Me and my family used to rely soley on NIV and NLT, just because they were easier versions. But then me and my husband started comparing to KJV, and found a few things that irked us. We now use KJV as our main bible, but refer to our other bibles for comparison if something is harder to understand. Also, if one verse seems hard to understand, go back and read the surrounding verses. That often helps. Me and my family are going through the entire King James bible together everyday using this: http://www.thekjvstore.com/product_detail....d=1&pgid=67 For some reason it is easier to understand when someone else is reading it out loud.

Also, you can buy bibles that are more than one version. King James/NIV is common. You'll see King James on one side of the page, then NIV right next to it, making it easy to compare.

I have both the KJV and NKJV. I read'em both.

Another good book to have is Strongs Exhaustive Concordance. Picked one at Half Price Books for around 10 bucks.

Another good place to do side by side comparisons of different translations is Crosswalk.com.

      I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

      For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

      2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices. 

      So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

      Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end. 
      Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house. 

      Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

      Shalom everyone,

      As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

      Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
      Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

      So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
