Ive heard a wild range of views on this topic. I would love to know your views on this.

Giving back to the Lord. What does this mean to you and mean scripturally? Some say the only right way to give is to tithe. Ive heard others say that one can give only to the church or it doesnt count. Others have said you can only give to a Christian organization. Is giving money the only way to give to the Lord? Is mowing your neighbors lawn when he is laid up with a broken leg giving to the Lord? Does it only count if your neighbor is from your church or Christian?

Your thoughts?

I voted "no" on both counts.

I do not see how anyone could interpret God's Word any other way. Jesus was charitable with His time, and resources with everyone He came into contact with. Are we not to behave in like manner?

I'd actually say that the tithe is the WRONG WAY to give. I don't think it can be scripturally supported as a post-resurrection concept. The purpose of tithes was to support the Levites, and since we no longer have Levites in the modern Church (no, church ministers are not Levites - they can own land!) it should no longer apply in the same sense as today (besides, is this 10% taken before or after tax.....). I of course do support the giving of money to support the work of the group you belong, including the salary of the pastor, but I would be very hesitant in calling this a "tithe".

As far as giving goes, I don't ever recall Jesus giving to a particular church organisation. His charity work was hands-on, helping those in need and preaching them the gospel of Jesus. Why would giving to a secular group that helped fellow human beings be any less than the giving to the work of a church? Why is giving your time to a secular soup-kitchen not part of God's work but helping at a religious soup-kitchen God's plan?

I think it all starts at the two greatest commandments - Love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul and mind, and Love your neighbour as yourself. The second one is of particular importance. I notice many Christians subtly twisting Jesus' words here. They change "Love your neighbour as yourself" and turn it into, "Love your fellow Christian as yourself - if they aren't Christian it's ok to ignore them and not care about them at all, perhaps even abuse them for not believing".

Our "neighbour" is everyone - Chrsitians as well as non-Christians. Keep that in mind, and whatever actions we do should flow from that sense of love - love first for our God, then for others (ALL others).

Just a few thoughts.

Hi Ayin.

Not quite sure what you mean by 'giving back to the L-rd'...how does one give back anything to the L-rd of Glory, the One who owns the cattle on a thousand hills, the One who has put breath in our nostrils and given us His spirit.

Matthew 10: 5 These twelve Jesus sent out after instructing them:

I would think that anyone who felt that it only counts if you give to a christian organization is being quite selfish. Acts of kindness are a form of charity, and if given in the spirit are a form of titheing.

Anyone who thinks only money is meant for titheing has very narrowed vision.

As far as giving tithes - if I recall right, the command was to give 10% of the fruits of your labor. This meant farmers gave food rather than coins.

So I voted "no" on the monetary question.

The outlook of only giving to others who are Christian is selfish. I tithe and I help anyone either Christian or non. How can I be an example if I am only loving my Christian neighbours?

I used to fill a box for "Operation Christmas Child", a great and Worthy ministry for overseas kids but now I look locally and fill a box for Aussie kids who are doing without.

It can be money, volunteering your time.........very rarely did I ever have money to give, so I gave of my time. Not only in the church setting either. I have been known to shovel snow for neighbors, babysit for free, and many other things. God takes all of those things as my tithe. LOL then He takes them as an offering as well along with worship. I teach my children the same principal. For in all things you are to do them unto the Lord.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
