I wonder if Jesus actually wore sandals?

It never really says in the Bible that he does, John only mentions that he is not fit to carry them. But it never really says that Christ wore anything on his feet.

Historically, he would have, since they were the shoe fashion of the day, but since it does not say "Jesus wore sandals" in the Bible, I doubt that he actually did.

I imagine his poor feet got pretty sore, maybe that's why he spent so much time near the water. A good soak in the dead sea probably felt heavenly.

Hmmm, how would we know? We weren't there.

oddly enough I have not seen one thread where someone was saying that beyond any shadow of a doubt that Jesus wore sandals. I have not seen a thread where people were attacked and called closed minded and other things for thinking that maybe Jesus didn

You should study up on the order of the Nazarenes who were raised to be prophets and we all know that Jesus was a Nazarene.

was Jesus a Nazarene by nature of being part of the order or Nazarenes, or by nature of living in Nazareth

Matt 2:23

And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.

One of the reasons Jesus had long hair was because among other regulations of the order or sect of the Nazarines, HE was not allowed to cut his hair as long as HE was separated unto the Lord.

In the book of Numbers 6:2-21 we can learn that Nazarenes took a vow to separate themselves from the world unto the Lord. We find that they can not eat anything that is made with wine or the kernels of the husk, they can not drink wine or strong drink and so on.

We should always remember that Jesus had to fallow some of the same biblical guild lines as other Rabbi,s. He did not become a Rabbi with out credentials and those credentials were provided by the time He spent as a Nazarite and since we know that Jesus died with long hair we know that Jesus was still a member of the sect or order of the Nazarites because He did not finish His time as a Nazarene. According to Numbers 6:13-18 before He was crucified.

How do we know Jesus had long hair. No where in the Bible does it say, "Jesus had long hair."

There are actually only a couple people that are actually talked about as having long hair. Jesus was not one of them.

We all confess that Yeshua was recognized as a Rabbi. That doesn't mean that He took "rabbi classes" and got a certification from the Pharisaical/Sanhedrin authorities, but He did rise up within the structure of Israel for recognizing Rabbis and that was through the community life of studying the torah on shabbat. Every person in a community could bring a "drash" (sermon) at their bar/bat mitzvah and those who showed ability to teach were given more opportunities as long as they were faithful.

Excellent Yod :) ...this part of what you have stated gets closer to the heart of what it means to have been a Rabbi in those formative days, and paints a clearer picture...at least for me. Jesus was naturally schooled as all Jewish boys would have been in Torah, and the oral traditions, and his wisdom and understanding would have probably been the talk of the local school and the neighbourhood.

When He went up to Jerusalem at the age of 12 and spent time in the temple astounding the learned scholars, it is possible that a relationship developed that continued everytime He went up to the Temple, or that those that had been in awe of His wisdom as a boy, made it a point to seek Him out, and check on His progress as He was growing up, maybe consulting with His teachers in Galilee. One thing is for sure, if He astounded the Big-wigs in Jerusalem, He must certainly have been astounding His teachers and class mates in Galilee. (which touches on the next speculative possibility...that some of the people Jesus called as His disciples, already knew Him or of Him.)

From within the community it would have been obvious, that this carpenters son, was going to become a Rabbi, and at the recognised time at about 30 years He began His ministry, just like all Rabbis would have done. It soon became obvious, that this Man spoke with authority, and performed such healings and miracles, that He left other ministries for dead. This can be seen in the way that even the most reknowned Rabbi at the time...John the Baptizer lost disciples to Rabbi Yeshua ben Yossef.

Here was a Rabbi who offered more than anyone else to His followers, and opened up the Scriptures like no other Rabbi could ever do...His ministry was very attractive to a spiritually hungry nation, and the words He spoke were not dry and academic in nature, but LIFE itself.

Nowhere does the Bible say that Jesus was a Nazarite. Nazarene was what those outside the believing community called the Jewish followers of Jesus/Y'shua. There are some ancient 1st/2nd century rabbinical writings mentioning the "Notzrim" (Nazarenes).

Nazarite should not be confused with "Nazarene." They have no relationship. There is no evidence that Jesus had long hair. Unless you believe in the Shroud of Turin nonsense.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
