I was asked the question how I reconciled my faith with the discovery of "Lucy" in Africa. First I had to find out what/who "Lucy" was. I now have a book about her discovery and dating of the skeleton (there is also information on the internet). Has anybody tried to answer this? The question came from a believer who is now struggling with faith - if that helps frame the question any better.

The first flaw with Lucy is that she is a he. Now if the archeologist who found him couldn't tell the difference he had no right being in his profession. Men's pelvic bone is smaller than a woman's because men don't give birth. After closer inspection of Lucy, other, more educated scientists discovered that it was actually the skeleton of a pigmy chimpanzee, with a human knee bone. When asked where the knee was found the archeologist stated that "it was found 1.6 miles away from the rest of the skeleton." When asked why he put it with the rest of the bones he said "It just seemed to fit."

Evolution is a theory and a theory is nothing more than a guess.

Scientists have fossil remains of tiny creatures that are small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. Every bone accounted for. Animals they say are 100s of millions of years old. Yet they have no full body skeletons of what we were supposed to have evolved from.

They find a bone and don't know what it is, so they construct a man around it.

Don't wrap your head around a theory as if it's fact.

What does 'Lucy' have to do with Christian faith? The little being was NOT a human nor was he/she our ancestor. If this causes one to struggle with their faith...they have way deeper problems than the discovery of a humanoid skeleton.

How did you find out these disparent facts about "Lucy"? They aren't published in the original work I have, obviously since they were "discovered" later. Who published them? Why aren't they well known? Where is the report by the more educated scientists that discovered that it was actually the skeleton of a pigmy chimpanzee, with a human knee bone. And where/what/who wrote the report about the knee bone?

Secondly his faith confusion came from that "Lucy" was upright before the age of the Garden of Eden and that her existence added facts to the theory of evolution from ape design to upright. After researching "Lucy" in scientific literature I found that there was no indication of an opposable thumb and no evidence of intelligence, such as use of tools brain cavity size etc. (IE the traits that even evolutionists use to defend evolution) Which is evidence to the categorization of "her/it" as an ape not human. Actually I don't suppose the gender matters to the current discussion other than they got it wrong. However the knee cap 1.6 miles away does damage to the fact that it may have walked upright. So maybe a small 3'6" 65 pound ape type that walked less with the arms but not much beyond that?

The Bible says we need to be ready in season and out to give an answer for the hope that is in us (paraphrased from IPeter3:15). I do not feel the need to judge the strength or level of my friend's faith, I do however feel the need to be ready to give an answer for the hope that is within me. I do not fear science or evolutionary theory because it is wrong and therefore wisdom will prove it wrong either now or when we eventually get enough of God's wisdom to figure it out. I also know that science hides facts that do not support its theories - I am a statistician I have been there. And so I asked the question to prepare a better answer for the hope within me and in the hope that someone in the community of faith had prepared before me and would share.

Thank you to those who did.

Actually I don't suppose the gender matters to the current discussion other than they got it wrong.

It does matter. The difference in a pelvis between male and female is quite profound. If they made such a significant simple error on this, then that ruins their credibility in general.

The man who discovered Lucy works at a university in the Phoenix area. There is a research grade replica of Lucy on display. I looked at it. One thing that struck me was that the skeleton was crushed (flattened) and put back together. I wondered if in reconstructing it, did they change the shape of the bone? There are gaps in the cracks. It is possible a bias entered into their reconstruction.

Lucy is supposedly an evolutionary dead end anyway. So she cant prove or disprove anything about our ancestors as far as the theory of evolution from ape design to upright.

Oh YES!!! Ive been saying this for awhile now. Those who believe the theory of evolution dont believe me. When I worked as an archaeologist, I saw first hand how dating samples were discarded when they didnt fit what they expected it to be. Scientists do indeed hide facts.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
