Rising and falling. Scientists equate it to breathing. Seems that magma mass likes to cause a rise and fall on a somewhat regular basis. Whats been interesting is how the Norris basin has become unstable. And how the geyser system seems to have changed. No one seems to know what that means to the supervolcano. Guest
I just watched a show about this area, and the possibility of an eruption, a few days ago on the History Channel. It was the opinion of the scientist interviewed that the resulting smoke and ash would spread around the world and cause a volcanic winter. This could cause mass extinctions, according to him. I wish I could remember the guy's name.... If that happened, we wouldn't have to worry about Gore and his "Global Warming" would we? Depending on where the winds blew all the ash, it would certainly screw up the neighborhood for awhile . . .

I took a random sample of the quake centers from the University of Utah's web site and plotted them on Google Earth to see where they lie. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c311/oth...Earthquakes.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c311/oth...hquakesZoom.jpg Not that this is any dire thing, I just thought it'd be nice to see where they are located. It's my understanding that the floor of the lake has been rising in that area for several years. The only thing that really bothers me about the super eruption is that we really don't know what will happen just prior to the eruption. It is my understanding that the animals seem to know and if we want to be ready we need to watch the animals..... when they all go a little crazy it's time to run. great idea! finally someone has learned a lesson from history (the government never seems to ) we watched that with indonesia, didn't we? now, how to go about it !?? It looked to me as if all the activity was located beneath a body of water and not near any of the fault lines indicated on the map. Don't think ya need to stock up on water just yet...but ya never know. dear hunterpoet. please be stocked up on water & food & first aid equipment for ANY eventuality. we should all be prepared with emergency supplies anyway. imminent threat is always present. Birth Pangs are increasing.... here are some good links on Volcano and recent earthquake activity http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7805018.stm http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/07/r...c_activity.html http://www.minelinks.com/meteo/volcanoes.html Earthquake increases in last 10 years plus a 100 year graph http://www.thehorizonproject.com/earthquakes.cfm http://www.earth.webecs.co.uk/index.htm http://www.icr.org/article/twentieth-centu...nting-urban-le/ Wow! i hadn't got a chance tolook at those graphs 'til now. that one at the horizon project knocked my socks off. the increase is stunning !! I'm sure Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, North and South Dakota, but what about a chain reaction in California? Could that happen? I imagine parts of Canada would be affected. Just curious. <>< ><> Nathele We even got fall out from Mt St. Helens all the way in Kansas...... in Kansas, it almost looked like real small flakes of snow, but when you caught them they would not melt, and if you had several in the palm of your hand, and drug your finger across them they would leave small scratches, and if you dusted them off your vehicle, they would actually scratch the paint..... my father was living in Troutsdale Or, and had to get up on the roof ever so often and sweep the ash off the roof to get rid of the weight from it.... if one in Yellowstone went, that is a bit closer to Ks then Mt St Helens..... and I do not know how far Mt St Helens actually went, I do know it had some...... it would also be determined by the Jet Stream, which way and what its path is during that time, it may even have a wider effect if the Jet Stream shifts much...... too many varibles to really say what would happen, and then again, it might be one that wipes out the entire park by the time it is done, like the one in Hawaii, on the Island of Hawaii, taking out an entire town....... I do know that people will do there just like they did on Mt St Helens, some stayed to ride it out..... and some did not do good, just like with the huricanes, there are people that stay behind and then blame the government for not helping them out of a jam... just like here there are flood area's and road blocks are put up and people ignore them and then expect others to rescue them or to save them and then blame others for their own stupidity...... if the word goes out that it will erupt, or that there is an evac, then the people staying behind are taking their own lives in their own hands...... for if the word goes out, the WATCHMEN HAVE DONE THEIR JOB, and the blood of the victims IS NOT ON THEIR HEADS...... mike
