I have been getting back to the basics. I came across this and became a bit confused by the words Sons of God in verse 2 Can someone please help me with this one?

Gen 6:1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,

Gen 6:2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

Gen 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

Gen 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

Gen 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Gen 6:6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

Gen 6:7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

Gen 6:8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

Gen 6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

Gen 6:10 And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

Check out all the places that the same term is used in the Bible. Job in particular.

Some think it refers to men, some angels. I tend to think the latter.

What is confusing? Many questions could be raised about these verses. Could you clarify what point(s) you would like answered?

Blessings and peace sister.

Check out the thread Genesis 6:1-4 I posted this for I too needed clarification in my study. Reading the bible this year. I am still undecided though. :emot-handshake:

im not an expert (lol)but this is how it was taught to me ,,,remember that these verses were translated too so that may be an issue ,,, (sons of god) gods angels

up until this point ppl lived a long time (you knew that lol) and it didnt rain ,,the world was watered like in the garden ,,, some say there was a ring of water surrounding the earth (up in space) that protected the planet from radiation and thats why ppl lived 800 yrs ect. (i believe god just willed that ppl lived that long)

ppl could talk to god then like cain did or adam or noah and ppl could hear god's voice,,, not that we cant hear him now (in our spirits) but ppl could hear him in the phisical reality as well,,,

gen 6 : 4 --- there were giants in the earth in those days ,,, is answered in the same verse ,,, giants = mighty men ,,, like samson was a giant (a great man)powerful

gen :6 :4 --- the children of the angel /daughter cross was like breading a beagle to a pit bull (you get one bad mean beagle)a beagle that could domanate all the other ordinary beagles ( can ya see my point?)

repented ,,, it repented the lord that he made man ,,, no the lord did not repent ,,, i think this is a translational error ,,, example: love god hate your parents thats a translational error of sorts ,,, the jews understand it kinda like this --- if you went to an adoption agency and there was two kids up for adoption and you picked one but left the other there because you couldnt afford to feed them both they would say you loved one child and hated the other ,,, not that you hated the other like i hate you you little scamp of a tyke ,,, but that you chose one over the other ,,, thus chose to love god over your parents doesnt mean hate your parents but to chose god first ,,,

god repented ,,, not like i james repent my sins and ask you lord to forgive me and come into my heart ,,, but like i repent that i bought my daughter a cell phone because she knows how to be responsable with it but choses not to...

god knew it would happen all along ,,, the human condition -sin nature ,,, so he cleansed the earth kinda like sodam and gammorah

noah (we are direct line desendents) was chosen and his family keeping our line to adam with out any angel cross involved (sons of god cross breed)

kinda like lot living in sodam and gammorah he did bussiness with them ppl but did not practice there doctrines but worshiped god

noah lived among the ppl who gave them selfs over to sin but still worshiped god,,, and taught his sons to worship god too and not be caught up in the world (sounds familliar lol)

god being true saved the good ppl in both cases (in all cases in my opinion and belief)

like now ,,, right now ,,, the world is what it used to be only this time instead of god destroying the world and saving his ppl ,,, god will let ppl destroy the world and save those who follow him,,, believers will hear the trumpet when jesus comes back

shem the father of the nation of israel (my brothers who are israeli and gods chosen ppl)

ham the cursed son who did somthing to noah while he was passed out from drinking (yeah noah wasnt perfect either)even moses messed up

japeth the father of the gentiles (my line cause im not jewish) but it is written japeth will dwell in the tents of shem (my brothers tents)of course we know this happens thru the son of god jesus who is god

like i said colleen im not a scholar(im a dump truck driver) and ive only studyed the bible on my own and may be wrong ,,, i hope i havent messed you up any and i hope if i made a mistake some one will correct me ,,, but for what its worth thats how i see it ,,, love in christ arrow from god

Nothing about these passages gets any clearer.

I have heard it said that the sons of GOD in this passage refers to the angels in Jude 6, and referred to as the angel held in chains until the end of days referenced in Rev. This really doen't explain why GOD was angry with man about this. The only use of the phrase "Sons of GOD" seems to refer to the angels.

It is believed that the mighty men (like Goliath) were the offspring of these angels and men. Called Nephalim (might not be spelled right)

It makes more sense to believe these were just men and they were undisciplined with regard to women. Promiscuous and/or too many wives. This makes sense in the anger towards man but really doesn't explain the phrase "Sons of GOD"

OK, luck with that.

HIS Peace and Love to you

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
