the difference between a prophetic oracle, which has been fulfilled and an apocalypse, which was intended to covertly convey a message of hope.

That is Liberal theology.

Believing that the words in Revelation are not prophecy. :foot-stomp:

Sez who? Revelation is a combination of epistle, prophecy and apocalypse. Where you and I disagree is in the timing and what the images stand for.

I had Liberal theology crammed down my throat at the Christian Liberal Arts college I went to.

Your interpretation of Revelation sounds just like my theology professors.

Point is, as I said before, you and I have a different understanding of prophecy, prophetic words, etc. And aren't you the one who always called dreams the food people ate?

I can't agree with your interpretation of "Babylon" because we have a different basis for undertanding the spiritual realm and how the Lord speaks to people.

And it seems from your answers to Given that you look down on people who disagree with you.

Just because you are better at intimidating words towards people does not make you correct.

That is all.

Rufus my brother in Christ,

I am not going to answer what you said as i don't see eschatology as a salvation issue and i will defer with your opinions and yet gladly fellowship with you based on the fact that we are brothers in Christ. Yet your allegorical and liberal style interpretation of scriptures do bother me if applied to the core salvation issues issues of christian beliefs and i will just pray that the Holy Spirit will guide you in yr reading of the Bible. No i will not apologise for believing that every word of the Bible is true and no, i do not believe that every passage of the Bible is to be interpreted literally, yet if it makes sense to take it literally, i do take the literal meaning of what the Bible says.

The Book of Isaiah and the prophets are written in a poetic style, in fact Jeremiah had been described by William Wordsworth as a greatest poetic book yet written but one must understand that the Bible is not like rap music where rhyme is way more important than message. The book of Revelations is full of symbols but yet symbols have specific meaning that are explained else where by other books of the Bible. Jesus is both described as the Lion of Judah and the precious Lamb of God. No i do not take the imagery as literal and these imagery are explained else where in the Bible. Same with Babylon... one does not delve into the deep and rich imaginations of your mind to understand Babylon because the OT is full mention of the city.

no i am not a young christian, i am in my 50s and have numerous PhD and masters degree under my belt but i boast not of my intellectual prowess as they are in secular and not theological fields. Yet i have researched the major prophets like Jeremiah and Isaiah and have done a 5 year study on the major prophets including Daniel. NO PROPHECIES GIVEN IN THE OT HAVE BEEN FULFILLED IN A ALLEGORICAL FASHION.

As regards to the issues being debated, we are quite open to hear any evidence you can provide to back your argument, yet you have provided non apart from your assertion that Babylon is destroyed by Cyrus. Any one who even know any history knows its not true. Babylon was indeed conquered by Cyrus but it was in no way destroyed and exist and gradually abandoned during the Seleucid Empire nearly 500 years later. It continued to exist right up to the Roman empire. Now what is predicted in Isaiah is that the city of Babylon will be destroyed quickly, in a Battle, by a Mede and totally and completely destroyed in the manner of Sodom and Gomorrah. The fact that Babylon is destroyed I cannot deny but it has been rebuilt which i also cannot deny, and that surely again does not fit with Isaiah's prophecy. Do i accept that the city is in ruins means that it automatically qualify as a fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy in Isa 13? No! As you mention, the city had been destroyed many times, once by Sennacherib and yet rebuilt again. Does that mean the city has fulfilled Isaiah's prophecy just because it was destroyed by Sennacherib??... no again because it was rebuilt and went on to greater mischief and defiance of God. Whether you read the passage in a literal or allegorical way, how would you explain so many obvious contradiction to what is prophesied and what is fulfilled apart from the fact that indeed the city in Iraq is in ruins (Which by the way does not fulfill the prophesy as Sodom do not even have a single brick to testify to its existence).

BTW, I read Revelation regularly as the book of Revelation is meant to be a source of comfort to John and the Church undergoing severe persecution under the emperor Dolmitian. What ever you belive, i take comfort from the fact that in the end, God wins.

Lookie, Babylon rising! http

Mystery Babylon in Revelation is interpreted twofold:

i) Physical, civil city in Mystery Babylon and

ii) Spiritual Mystery Babylon.

Spiritual Mystery Babylon: This alludes to Nimrod, the hunter of man (or to hunt down people in his day to gather them together in one place, Babel, in rebellion against God who had commanded them to disperse throughout the then known world and multiply). Nimrod was the first type of Antichrist. In his native language of Chaldee, his name spelt out the number 666. Spiritual Babylon is also interpreted as religious apostasy (2 Thess 2:3) which is brought about by the various ecumenical efforts whereby all religions will be joined together, cooperating to create a One World Church.

The physical, civil city of Mystery Babylon in Revelation alludes to the ancient Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar who was allowed by God to be made "King of Kings", an absolute ruler over "all men, beasts and fouls" (Daniel 2:37, 38), even allowing him to have an image (he being the head of gold) built and worshipped by the then known world. He was the prototype for the coming One World Dictator.

Now the main problem arises in identifying this city of Mystery Babylon in Revelation. Is it referring to the ancient city in Iraq. Or some other modern day city?

Thank you for posting...

Very interesting article.

I agree that the scriptures does suggest two aspects of Babylon, one Mystery Babylon which refer to the spiritual aspect of a mystery religion which is responsible for the blood of mytyrs, and a commercial Babylon which the sailors and all who profit from it will mourn over its destruction.

The spiritual side that Nimrod introduced, the idolatry has spread worldwide. Most of the mystery religions have incorporated the worship of the mother & child. Much of the idol worship like Baal and Astoreth and the Egyptian Osiris and Issis originated from Babylon. The majority of pagan religions have the incorporated the worship of a mother child in China and India and everywhere i have been in.

Difficult to see how this can be destroyed since the worship is worldwide. Maybe in a one centralised religion?

A long read but well worth it. The article.

A while back I was given, from a group of Christian intercessors, a written compilation of predictions concerning several events that could be happening in America very soon. In other words many prayed and came to an agreement on what they were seeing coming to pass soon. I now think their predictions will happen probably in the next few weeks or couple of months. What I have put in regular print I expect to happen for sure. The rest, in parenthesis, will probably happen too but I am less sure of it .

1) President Barack Obama will resign his office due to his birth status and outside pressure.

2) V P Joe Biden will be indicated by Obama as that outside pressure, and as having threatened the Obama family.

3) The US Supreme Court will decide that since Obama admits that he was not qualified to run, the 2008 election winner is now John McCain.

4) There will be some short lived civil unrest about this decision, even though Obama's nominee to the court will vote with the majority.

5) Sarah Palin will be sworn into office as VP,( but only as a ceremonial gesture. She will immediately resign and return to what she has been doing with her political action commitee.)

6)( A new VP will be installed .........one of the reasons Sarah will step aside is for this man to help heal the nation.....he is a black man.....I am about 95% sure it will be J.C.Watts).

7)Obama will co-operate with federal authorities in their investigations into corruption.

Please watch the news and see if these intercessors are right.

Interesting. The one problem I see upfront is that, if the President did resign (and Biden was gone) by law the President would be Nancy Pelosi who would appoint her own V.P (the chances of that person being Sarah Palin are the same as for the Titanic becoming UNSUNK). There is no provision for going back and uncertifying an election so McCain would NOT become President. I'm going to save these predictions and refer to them over the next year. IMO, 'predictions' are not prophesy, they are of the occult and total rubbish.

This sure is wishful thinking, but I don't see it happening, IMHO. I watch the news daily, and for long periods of time to get as much as I can. I have seen no indicators pointing to Obama being relieved. I can see the probability of other things happening to them, which I will keep to myself.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
