Is Jesus Truth Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6 Or Is Mohammad Truth And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. I've been in recovery from anorexia for about 8 years. It's a very hard thing to overcome. Are you seeing a therapist or going through any type of therapy to help you? Throw away the scales in your home. You are much more than just a number in God's eyes. He doesn't want you to suffer like this.1 point

Genesis 19:8 "See now, I have two daughters who have not known a man, please, let me bring them out to you and you may do to them as you wish; only do nothing to these men, since this is the reason they have come under the shadow of my roof. Lot thought that in doing so, the "mob" as you put it would take his daughters, thus saving his home and community. It wasnt what seemed good in their eyes but to do with them as they wished, because if the men continued then the angels would be forced to destroy Sodom and Gamorrah for God sent them there to do this very thing less Abraham find 10 good men. As I said earlier, this place was engulfed in debauchery and sin! I dont see much more that is to be understood in the passage other than that Xero, can you find anything that I missed? ~blessings~ Genesis 19:8 "Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof." I dont know what version you read but it would serve you best to switch to the KJV because its closer to the original. Little things like changing "do what is good in your eyes" to "do what you like with them" have major repercussions in understanding. Its not your fault. Heres a link and you can see the different variations: http://bible.cc/genesis/19-8.htm If you get yourself a strongs concordance (theres plenty of them free online available in PDF format) you can check out the original article and youll see that the KJV is very reliable as far as accuracy in comparison to the original.1 point

If you wanted a list of translations, why didn't you just search Amazon? A thread like this naturally garners discussion. I wanted to see what bibles people use here in this site. Here where I am currently at, we have 1 who uses the Holmes Bible, I use ESV, my PA uses NKJ, another who uses NLT... there is no need for an arguement on this thread. (EDIT: Also I never stated I want a list of different translations, I want people to state what bible they themselves use, as mentioned in the very first post)1 point

We as people all speak by a spirit whether it be in our native tongue or in a foreign tongue of men or that of angels. We may speak by the Holy Spirit, and if given utterance it may be in a language unknown to us. But the question seems to be, can this be done by a spirit other than the Holy Spirit? Why not? Are there not an untold number of devils out there? Do they not each have an angelic tongue they speak? Could they not speak using their own language through your mortal flesh? One of the biggest problems in Christianity is the misunderstanding of how closely we interact with the spiritual realm. Our bodies are just houses and can be dwelt in by spirits other than the Holy Spirit, just as Paul had a thorn in the flesh who was an angel of Satan's. Paul also claimed to believe that he had the spirit of God as well. Why do you think we are told to be quick to hear and slow to speak? For more than one reason but one is that we must watch over our mouth to guard against allowing the wrong spirit to have dominion there. Of course there are those who believe that since we are sealed by the Holy Spirit that no other spirit can enter us. I believe they are more likely in danger of being controlled by an evil spirit than those who understand that we are at war internally against principalities and powers and rulers of darkness in high places and that our weapons of warfare are not carnal. We are the keepers of the temple who must keep the temple pure and undefiled, not fornicating or committing adultery with other spirits. Purifying our hearts to worship only the one true God through his spirit and truth. As for what percentage is what I can only give guesses based upon scripture. If many are called but few are chosen. If most do not enter in at the straight gate. If all do not speak in tongues of those number. if the end times is supposed to be wrought with perilous times of diverse iniquitous behaviors within the church. If Satan will deceive many through lying signs and wonders. I believe the percentage of true tongue speakers is probably very low. When dealing with a confessed brother or sister who speaks in tongues, I don't give thought to the topic of tongues with them but seek to understand whether or not they espouse true doctrine and walk the walk of faith in their life. I am more apt to believe that they are experiencing biblical tongues through the Holy Spirit if it is evidenced through their lives that they are actually living by said Holy Spirit and walking in love, joy, peace, patience, self-control, gentleness, goodness, meekness and faith. My question is if they are being controlled in such a way by the Holy Spirit to cause them to speak in ways that they cannot on their own they why can't they walk in ways that are of God? The same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead quickens my mortal flesh everyday and gives me power to resist sin (I am not 100% successful as on occasion I do succumb to sin and am beset by it by giving in to a spirit of fear, malice or other). In the end I take up Paul's argument and say seek the gifts but I show you a better way. That way is love, unfeigned love. When you truly love someone who is unlovable they cannot explain or resist wondering why you do such things. Love those who speak in tongues, both legitimate and illegitimate. The ESV and the NASB are the most accurate word for word English translations of the Holy Bible.1 point

You need in person, one on one help from a professional. In the meantime, you will be in my prayers, and I think that's the best anyone on the Internet can do for you.1 point

Also there's a financial incentive to changing the Bible, with all the new versions. They try to change it just enough to get their new version copyrighted. That leads me to believe the new versions aren't accurate.1 point

I'd like to have a parallel Bible that is comprised of translations that come from the Textus Recepticus, the Alexandrian texts, AND the Syriac text. Something like NKJV, NIV1984, and the Lamsa Bible. I don't necessarily think the oldest manuscripts are the most accurate. However, I do give credence to texts that are geographically dispersed over the centuries and are still in agreement. By having all of the the texts together, in a parallel Bible, you have the opportunity to compare them for accuracy.1 point

KJV and I like to scroll through the parallels of other versions at bible.cc from time to time but have never read any other version in its entirety. Gary1 point

I'm most familiar with the NASB because it was my primary Bible for many years early in my Xian life, but I'd no longer call it my "favorite." My preference is to have several parallel translations of different "styles." If Zondervan ever updates Today's Parallel Bible to the most current versions of NASB, NIV, and NLT, I'll probably order one. If I really had to pick one translation, it would probably be either the TNIV or the NIV2011. The ISV is interesting and useful, especially for reproducing a bit of the "flavor" of poetic passages in the NT. The NET is good, and has copious notes. However, because of some research done by Suzanne McCarthy, I have to somewhat distrust their notes, their translation, and even their motives and competence.1 point

Amen to that sister. I wish all Christians agreed with us on this. My favorite Bible is the NIV. When I read the NIV it was fairly new, and there weren't many modern translations yet. I have a problem understanding old English, so even now, some 30 years later, I still can't understand the KJV. But if you can understand that form of English I think it's a great translation. Since I read the NIV cover to cover, it remains my favorite.1 point

Sounds neat but I dont think the trumpets are literal trumpets sister. Dont take offense but you seem a bit young in the faith. Im not saying anything bad about that but you will find that the older brethren are… cautious, lets say, about interpreting prophecy according to worldly occurences. Theyre not entirely wrong nor completely right. No doubt there are things in reality right now which are shaping up for the end to come but we cant be certain, unless God sends us a sure message along the lines of "thus sayeth the Lord", whats going on. Weve had lots of wars, earthquakes, famines, pestilences, and the gospel has been preached throughout the entire world so definitely things are coming to the full but God is longsuffering so it could be another several thousand years before this is over or it could be in decades, noone knows. Its good that youre keeping your eyes open and noone should make you feel uncomfortable for sharing, its hard enough being a believer in this world, but remember its not the end of the world until we see our Lord coming. Trust and believe it wont be something anyone will miss. We may have some trials ahead of us but sufficient unto the day are the evils thereof, or in more modern parlance one day at a time, so keep your eyes peeled but remember its not over til its over.1 point
